the kcc, named for owner-baker-chef kevin mathieson, was loaded up with clams plus big chunks of potato, celery, carrots and tomato.

not impressed. we used to rave about this place for service and food. arrived today @ 11:06am to order 3 breakfast sandwiches to go. were told we were too late as they don't serve them after 11am. technically yes it was after 11am. but when we turned to leave to find another place to take out, there was no desire to offer another option or even check if it was possible to squeeze in a few more sandwiches. if you are going retail, then customer service should be first priority.

wow!. made my first visit here today. i remember as a kid taking walks around the vicinity of these loading docks.

despite being in a loading dock and looking like a 3rd rate cafeteria, this place was busy and very, very loud. it was like being at the works. all seats were taken, about 25 people were standing and more people were coming in.

still, i was very impressed with their classic ham and cheese. it was possibly the best one i've ever eaten. it was terrific. they also had some very tantalizing desserts on tap that i surely would like to try.

if you're willing to just get take-out, this is pretty good and i definitely will go back but i feel this is a once-a-month place for me. dirienzo's remains my weekly choice for a sandwich in the summer.

just goes to show you that even the hipsters in this city will eat in a less-than-luxurious place if the food is terrific.

that's one way to run a business. what amazing food, and just such a likable business. i mean who wouldn't love a place that jacks the price by a dollar every two months, drops service to 40+ local businesses with a whopping seven days notice. sorry but good food doesn't make up for all this nonsense... i can find a good sandwich elsewhere from a business worth supporting.

really good! everything i have tried there from the breakfast sandwich to the pastries has been really good. only down side is trying to get a table there on the weekend. very stressful experience! people are practically fighting for tables. there is no system for getting a seat. people will come after you looking for a seat and take it before you have a chance. it's kind of like tryig to find a parking spot at costco on a saturday. once you finish eating expect to leave immediately or you will be getting dirty looks from the people waiting to sit. everyone pretty much stands around and watches you eat and they are standing next to your table waiting for you to get up. it was so awkward! they brought our food over before we had a seat so they took it back. we finally got a seat and they forgot about us. bonus was that they gave us a few free pastries for the trouble (which were delicious btw). i will be coming back but i will not stay to eat. :)

this afternoon my wife and i decided to go on a bit of an adventure to just to the west side of downtown ottawa to investigate art is in bakery ( 250 city centre avenue, ottawa ) which is an ottawa landmark amongst foodies especially for those enjoying the bakery cuisine. adventure? yes, art is in bakery (also known as art is in boulangerie)  opened in 2010 in the current new location in an industrial plaza, bordering the o-train tracks, where they have become well known for their breads and other baked goods. the ottawa magazine covered the opening  and reviewed it .  as well the bakery does well on urbanspoon.com rankings (#11 in ottawa) and  the bakery has recently made the news with the announcement  it will slow it's wholesale operation to concentrate on the retail side.   yes, to run a retail operation out of a industrial plaza complete with walk up loading dock. sounds weird and it is especially if you don't drive. getting there via public transit is interesting to say the least

another one bits the dust. i remember when i first discovered this bakery two years ago and was so thrilled. finally a great bread spot in ottawa! two years later, as is usually the case, art is in's increased popularity has led to decreased customer appreciation. the same sandwich that used to cost me $5.95 is now $9.95 with no additions or sides. i'm very disappointed that success only means profit. since art is in doesn't seem to care about selling me good food at a reasonable cost, i don't plan to eat there anymore.

well, cooking professionally for 20 years i have to say this was a great sandwich. i had the croque monsieur. in the end it was too much to handle. between the bechamel and all the cheese i wasn't feeling very good after i left. the tomato soup was awesome. tastes just as how i made it through the years. tomato sauce, water, cream, purée and pass it. buy the looks of many of the breads and baked treats reminds me of going to the countless restaurant food shows in montreal and toronto seeing all the deliciously expensive comercial baked goods that available. the eating area is nothing more than an after though. much like the days of the ottawa bagel shop when they graduated from paper plates to ceramic.

i've been here a number of times and have always been very impressed. the grilled cheese w/caramelised onions, any of the flatbreads, the clam chowder, croque monsieur.... it's all amazing! extremely happy they're open later now :)

a good sandwich, and they know it. art is in is located in an industrial type strip of town nowhere near anything else and difficult to get to. you enter and it's clearly a warehouse--no doubt used for their catering and bread-baking business.

the meals themselves are pretty great. you get fresh, high quality bread, and a pile of good toppings. personally i got the prosciutto sandwich, which was packed with meat and came with three cheeses--the ricotta was an interesting twist--and pesto. i'd say the sandwiches were a little on the pricy side (il bottega nicastro charges $5.50 for a sandwich that i'd say is as good if a little simpler) but really tasty. i also had a seafood chowder which was appropriately hearty and didn't skimp on the seafood.

sunday brunch review. food is fresh, creative and exceptional. well worth the wait in line and the small struggle for a table. come when you have time to spare and the experience is unique and delicious. the coffee alone is worth a trip.

when i entered the cafe at 2:30, i can hardly find seats for two. i was not that hungry, so i bought an almond croissant and an apple cider. they are delicious. the croissant is nicely flaky with moist almond cream. apple cider is made from apple juice (not apple-flavored powder mixed with water as in some chained coffee shop). will surely come back to try their sandwich. the atmosphere is funky and nice.

fabulous place. i've visited for lunch and breakfast, and never walk away without a bag filled with amazing baked treats. testimonial: i never liked eggs benedict until i tried them here (a bite off my husband's plate and i was hooked). what a great indulgence after a morning hike, bike, ski, or skate.
