overpriced. i've been there a couple of times but i'm not inspired to go back. not a big selection of pastries and they didn't taste fresh. must have been a day old. the self-serve coffee i had was lacking flavour. with the pastries i got the impression they do something to make them airy and look bigger but this doesn't make them bigger on taste. place was crowded in the warehouse atmosphere but it wasn't hard to get a seat although we did have to listen to someone else's conversation. noisy - bad acoustics was probably one of the reasons. haven't tried thesandwichesbut 8.95 or more in my opinion is overpriced. generally i have the feeling the owner is making a real effort to maximize profit and squeeze from the customer by whatever means in regards to quality, service and overall experience.

art is in has a display counter of their speciality desserts which features everything from macaroons to tarts to cheesecakes. the main menu, which is essentially a giant chalkboard, is also displayed at the main counter along with a smaller "specials" board. in addition to their sandwiches, soups, and sides, you can also order an assortment of coffees and teas. we decided to order various types ofsandwiches(which is their main item of food), coffee/tea, and of course, their numerous desserts.

art is out bakery. confusion.... upon entry..... bread line? food line? who's next? .....grrrrrrrr - patience needed
poor staff service.... whether they're all underpaid or totally unappreciative because they're not receiving tips...
the staff is useless!!! .... not overly friendly either!
over priced..... ham & cheese (8.95 + tax) - 1 piece of cheese / 1 folded flimsy piece of ham....on nice bread
dirienzo's & bottega rule..... art is in, pathetic
did i mention overpriced?
2sandwicheswithout sides... one croque madame with a small salad.... a juice...a cappuccino = over $50 !!!!
the hype is not worth it!

i would definitely recommend this spot to others visiting ottawa. great casual spot with friendly staff. once you get through the long, but fast moving line to the counter, the cashiers were very helpful and didn't rush us even though we had questions. the have a seasonal and changing menu. once you order, you receive a table number marker to self seat and the staff will bring your food once ready. there were individual and communal tables along with a love seat in the back corner. there was a very good selection ofsandwichesmade with fresh in-house baked breads. the thai chicken sandwich was flavourful and had great crunch. the carrot ginger soup was warming and they did not skimp in ingredients for the clam chowder! the doughnuts were on the bready side but their croissants (we had almond and chocolate) were buttery and flaky. the coffees and cappuccinos were also a hit. there is a separate line for the baked goods which is helpful. overall i would definitely come again.

i wish i could give this place a better rating because the food really is phenomenal, however it is definitely overpriced and the wait time is ridiculous. don't go here if you don't have time to spare. on my last visit i waited 35 mins for 2sandwichesto-go after waiting 15 minutes in line to order them. definitely not a take out place unless you are just getting baked goods.

we have always loved art is in and its pastries. we also loved their sunday brunch menu so we were disappointed when we went recently and found out that they have discontinued their sunday brunch menu. my partner loved their breakfast poutine (which included 3 types of meat, egg, and veggies) so he was disappointed when he found that it was not on the menu. he ordered kevin's poutine (which was on their today's special menu) and was greatly disappointed. it was small and overpriced for what it was. i had the lambourghini breakfast sandwich (lamb meatballs and egg). it was ok but not as good as compared to thesandwichesthey had on their sunday brunch menu! please bring back the sunday brunch menu!

ridiculous. if you enjoy your meat slightly raw, your hot chocolate served out of a container labeled "duck fat" or are looking for a place to sip your latte while breastfeeding your baby, you will love art is in bakery.

this filthy warehouse location has overpriced food which continues to rise with popularity, a chaotic atmosphere with terrible acoustics, cinder block walls and tattered benches, if you like to dine with strangers, you will love it!

the menu is confusing and always
changing. it is broken up in to categories such as "sandwiches" and "not sandwiches", yetsandwichesare in fact, listed in the " not sandwiches" section. alot of thier items are not available. you might order something and sit down, just to have a busy and flustered employee come out and tell you that what you ordered is not actually available and you need to choose something else. (it also takes about 20 minutes for a sandwich). it may also be a good idea to bring your own cutlery and takeout tupperware, or a water bottle to fill yourself. menu items may double in price or jump from around $7.00 to $12.95 as soon as it starts to become popular...

on the brighter side, the bread is amazing and baked fresh daily, as well as the pastries and they usually have a huge variety. you could easily walk in and order a couple dozen pastries and some other baked goods. everything is really good quality.

if i were you, i'd check it out as they do have a lot to offer, but don't expect a place to relax as people will be bumping into your chair, and you will be asked to leave 15 minutes after you finish your food and you may not receive all of your order. also, you might get a parking ticket. oh, and don't expect great service..or any service really....check it out

super delicious sandwiches. are they expensive? yes. are they overpriced? if it were for the quality of the sandwich alone, i would say no. however, considering the fact that you will likely have to wait more than 20 minutes for a salad, and that your chances of getting a relatively friendly staff member to take/give you your order are about 50/50, yes. they are overpriced. i can getsandwichesthat are just as good without the hefty price tag, long wait and shitty attitude. it took me a long time  to decide this (because that's how delicious thesandwichesare) but i'm not going back (because that's how bad the service is).

catering a disappointment. on the suggestion of a colleague we decided to have our catering done here for a baby shower. when it arrived, we noticed that a number of items that were ordered were not included. we ordered a variety ofsandwichesand salads.

we chose to contact art is in and inform them of their error and discuss getting a refund on the missing items (which were all the most expensive items). we got nothing but silence to our initial email. we emailed again a couple weeks later and still silence. very disappointed that they would not even acknowledge our issue.

overall, very disappointing experience and i would not recommend their catering.

no inventory, staff not pleasant. we just left from this place and i have to say i am very disappointed. we saw art is in featured on a tv show and were very excited to try it.

there was a line when we (4 of us) got there around 2:45 pm - not a huge line though. the menu showed that 2 items were sold out. unfortunately, one of which was the pickle sandwich featured on the show that i really wanted to try. the cashier explained that they don't make it on the weekend. really?! strange but whatever. i'll try something else.

i picked the chicken caesar, my 2 kids the angus sandwich. they let us know there was only one half of an angus left. one of my kids then chose the chicken caesar while the cashier was going to go "check if they still actually had the angus left." nope, no angus so he chose the grilled cheese.

we place the rest of our order, then paid, and got seated. a few minutes later, a waitress comes and tells us there is no chicken caesar left. only 3sandwichesare left, out of about 8-10. they ask us if we want to substitute for the grilled cheese. ummm no. i just paid over $12 for chicken caesar, i'm not accepting an $8 grilled cheese.

we ended up canceling our whole order and leaving hungry! the staff gave us a hard time about canceling our whole order but really, why would we stay when we can't get our 1st, 2nd, 3rd choices?! totally disappointing experience. :(
