delicious. i'm a regular at art is in bakery, having discovered it about 7 months ago. i notice that other reviewers say it was better before the renovation and i can't comment on that -- however, i can't imagine it being better. less expensive, sure, but better? because the food is scrumptious!

so the real question at hand is whether you are getting value for your dollar. sandwiches run for $10 and over. and these sandwiches are big and filling. i've tried a number of sandwiches on the menu and i have loved each and every one. the pulled pork sandwich was really wonderful and i appreciated that an employee approached me half-way through to ensure i was enjoying it. the tuna melt is a delight and has so much tuna on it that i routinely share it with someone. the vegetarian sandwich (which i haven't seen on the menu recently) was my favourite and i loved how much avocado they put on it. i've also had their breakfast sandwich and it was fabulous as well. frankly, i don't think anybody does a sandwich better than art is in and it's probably because a good bread can make or break a sandwich. and art is in makes their own, wonderful breads.

so ... $10 or more for a sandwich? i would argue that a 12-inch subway sandwich will run you almost that price, and this if far above a subway sandwich.

oh, but back to bread....!!! i've tried various types of breads and it is very difficult to pick a favourite because they are all so good. if pressed, i would pick the wild yeast sourdough. my daughter loves the buttermilk bread.

the pastries are wonderful. the chocolate croissant is so flaky and soft; you can tell it was just baked. the cookies are soft and sweet. and we always bring home some cheddar and chive scones!!

the industrial vibe of this place is funky and fun. it can get noisy but that's part of the fun.

a bit pricey but they over deliver. they are a bit pricey but i imagine they have a lot of overhead and ton of staff, it's a great place. i enjoy surprising out of town friends by bringing them here.

careful..... used to frequent this spot on a regular basis but moved out to the country and haven't been in while. stopped in for lunch with a friend and must say sadly i was dissapointed. is it just me or have the prices doubled? my angus striploin sandwich was good and all, but i expected more than 1oz of beef for $10. i could see the meal portions of those around me and let me tell you if i paid $12 for a cup of mac n cheese, i sure wouldn't do it again. also my friend had never been but was handled rudely at the cash when she 'ordered wrong'. then we waited 20 mins for two sandwiches, in a restaurant where most of the patrons were already eating. maybe it is just that there are so many excellent new generation restaurants popping up to contrast this one against, but the service here combined with the price means to me if they aren't careful the clientele will go elsewhere. too bad. let's hope it was just an off day...

what happened !!!???!!!. beyond disappointed!!!

i have family that comes into town from out west once a year, for a month, and this is one of the first places they asked to go based on their experience last summer. after today's experience they said they never want to go back! what a shame!!

i have been a fan for a couple of years and used to frequent the restaurant weekly, i was probably one of your best free marketing tools and used to rave about you to anyone that would listen. now, i am not sure i will ever go back either. if i do, it will be a rarity.

our experience today:
we arrived for a late lunch and the staff was rude and seemed not to care about the customer at all. i inquired about the monday soup and sandwich offer and the staff didn't even know if it is still offered and said there was no one in the restaurant to even ask about it. strike one!

we ordered a variety of things to share amongst 4 of us and the only decent thing was the ham and cheese sandwich. we ordered pulled pork mac & cheese which was good but... for the 14.00 we paid, it certainly was not worth it! it was a very small portion, with croutons on top to make it seem like its a bigger portion than it actually is and there was barely any pulled pork! strike two!

next, we ordered a vegetarian quiche with salad for $12.00. the quiche was so small i shocked and was undercooked, it was actually like liquid. the salad was saturated in oil and was completely limp, disgusting and inedible! picture attached. strike three!

the tuna melt, which was my all time favorite was also horrible... 2 summers ago, this amazing sandwich cost $5, now it is over $10 for just the sandwich and no extras. i knew that the price would increase and for the quality it was, rightfully so... but to double with the quality taking a nose dive, no no no! the bread was too hard to bite through, there was barely any cheese on it, and where the heck was the tuna? the edges of the sandwich were plain bread with a bit of mayo. really?? strike four!!

we also shared the expresso brownie, my lord... what happened to this? what too much coco or something. strike five!!

i found things changed drastically following the renovation closure. again, i used to frequent your restaurant a couple of times a week but since the renovation i go maybe once every two or three months and the meals have lacked every single time. i wonder, have you noticed a loss in customers? i notice more and more negative reviews and people saying they will never return.

will you do anything about this to save your reputation? i really hope so!
the loss of such a great thing is sooo sad!

perfect gem. i've been a customer for a while and i've never had a bad experience (take-out, lunch or brunch). if guests are visiting from out of town, this is definite stop off on my tour.

surprisingly, they've always improved with the growing pains. they've made changes to the line-ups and cashiers, there's a lot more seating and i think the air flow has improved as my clothes don't smell like oil the last time i went.

i found it overpriced and overrated. 20 bucks for fries, sandwich and a drink and its cafeteria style. the sandwich was ok, but i had a 3.50 doughnut and it was the first time i didn't finish dessert... i might try it again, but i'd get it to go, forego the doughnut and fries, and switch the 10 $ cold tandoori sandwich for another.

the bread. amazing bread. great for sandwiches, burgers, dipping or by itself. a little expensive but you feel like you're getting you moneys worth. they also offer 2 for 1 bread during the week at specific times(not sure what time). highly recommend trying their bread.

being a huge fan of their bread i just had to try out their restaurant. so i stopped by for lunch. pretty cool place, you most likely will have to drive there, it's not really by anything. so i grabbed a spicy meatball sub to go, which was packaged in a white cardboard box. grabbed a few napkins and headed to my car. opened the box and my first thoughts were, damn i should have grabbed a fork. this was not your typical eat with your hands sub. a little heads up would have been nice but oh well. so i take a bite and although very flavorful, the spicy sub was an indian spice sub. big difference in my opinion. i just wish they would have said curry meatballs or indian meatballs, because i probably would have ordered something else.

so the lesson i learned from going here, is to ask some simple questions when ordering. what's in it and things like that.

the next visit should give me a better idea of whether this is a good place to get baked goods or a place to get baked goods and have a nice meal.

better for brunch than bread. the brunches here have been pretty impressive although i'm still getting used to the ordering system. i can't say i go for the atmosphere either.

wish the bread was consistent. used to be the greatest but the last time i grabbed a loaf (i think it was a dynamite white over the summer) it was pretty flat and dense and frankly, too salty.
