terrible place. i just recently went there, and it was the first time i went there. i walk in not knowing what to expect, and a lady saw me and said hi but that was about it. so after a while i've looking around , i went to the lady and said well i've never been here before what do you do, so after advising me i had to order thefoodand pay for it first and then grab a seat, i did as she requested and sat down. i ordered the quiche. it didn't very long.....looked ok. started eating it and it was warm on the top and cold at the bottom. i'm not a fan of cold quiche, so i told a staff member who took it. it was like 12 -15 mins and i'm waiting for my food, so i asked another staff member, and then she went and grabbed it.
i went to eat it and it was cold again. the coffee is good, but i'm not paying higher amounts of money ( as this place is overpriced) just for coffee. if your going to charge people more than your average place for breakfast then your service andfoodmust make up for it. nope, not going here again.

art is out bakery. confusion.... upon entry..... bread line?foodline? who's next? .....grrrrrrrr - patience needed
poor staff service.... whether they're all underpaid or totally unappreciative because they're not receiving tips...
the staff is useless!!! .... not overly friendly either!
over priced..... ham & cheese (8.95 + tax) - 1 piece of cheese / 1 folded flimsy piece of ham....on nice bread
dirienzo's & bottega rule..... art is in, pathetic
did i mention overpriced?
2 sandwiches without sides... one croque madame with a small salad.... a juice...a cappuccino = over $50 !!!!
the hype is not worth it!

great food, great atmosphere. it seems like a lot of reviewers are professional complainers who want greatfoodfor mcdonald's prices!. i find the atmosphere at art is in to be great, and the employees are always friendly. thefoodisn't the cheapest in the city, but i've always found the quality to be excellent. i'm very willing to pay more for good quality! i especially like the crazy special kronuts they've been making on thursdays.

not what it used to be. i loved art is in. it was such an amazing place a couple of years ago and i used to go every week to buy bread and a sandwich so it really pains me that it has gotten so bad. don't get me wrong thefoodif still great, love the dill pickle sandwich and the bread but the staff are truly awful. i have never dealt with such rude customer service people. i understand being annoyed because people take too long to order or have complicated orders or are rude to you, but your job is to be nice, to get the product i'm asking for and to do it without attitude.

please! if the owner reads this tune up your staff! they are terrible and from what i've read from other people on here i'm not the only one to notice.

hidden gem!. i don't know what more to say. the sunday breakfasts here are unbelievably good. the level of pride that the owners have in theirfoodis very evident. this place has tons of character, the service is exceptional. the "back warehouse" ambiance adds to the character of this place.

it is definitely a hidden gem!

goodfoodbut the place is a zoo. what a stressful way to eat brunch. thefoodwas good but the pleasure was diminished by having to balance my plate on my lap, along with my coffee.
great idea but too much hassle for me.
excellent pastries and the best croissant in ottawa.

art is in is a trendy, modern twist on a bakery with a front cafe. thefoodis fresh, and i mean fresh! all baked goods are baked throughout the day, so you are guaranteed a delicious pastry, or fresh bread with every sandwich. and the coffee bar is delish!

bon appetite!

i'm giving a 2.0 for a few reasons:

positive:
thefoodwas delicious. had the avocado toast with the super salad.

negative:
we ordered two orders of toast, and the avocado toast with the super salad... and that was over $26?!?! how is one entree and 4 pieces of toast $26?! i was shocked when we were paying. i stopped the girl and told her she must of made a mistake because it says the avocado toast is $14.95 (which is already really expensive for breakfast). yeah, it is. but the super salad is an extra $4. so $18.95. she didn't mention the extra $4 jump in price when you order that specific salad. i asked what the options were for my side salad that came with the toast and she just left that $4 extra part out. i could have literally bought all of the ingredients to make avocado toast and "super salad" for my whole family for $18.95! the girl was a little rude after i was unhappy about spending that much on one breakfast entree.

little things:
the location is extremely loud. was there not during regular breakfast or lunch times on a tuesday.
you have to pay for parking in the lot.
lots of kids running around.
tables are super close together. i had a woman getting pissed off at me because i was sitting behind her... even though i was sitting there long before she got to the restaurant.
toast comes buttered, rather than butter on the side if you want it/butter to your liking.

tried this place because i live a stones throw away but with how expensive everything is (and trust me when i say i eat out a lot so i know when i'm getting ripped off) i probably won't come back 🤷‍♀️

let me start with: my friend and i then shared a chocolate cronut and it was d e l i c i o u s! i definitely recommend trying it. it might be too big for one person alone but yummy nevertheless.

fast paced, buzzing atmosphere. don't be put off if the line is long or the place looks busy, line moves fast andfoodis delivered pretty quick as well.

i have been here a few times because of its interesting vibe and unique variety of pastries and food.

this time i had the tuna melt and a cream soda. tuna melt was delicious, a friend and i shared a sandwich potion size is great for one hungry person (we weren't that hungry). the cream soda was typical, not that exciting.

why 3.5 only? i guess because the place is so busy the cleanliness isn't superb, table was dirty and there was fruit flies at the cafe bar.

i would definitely recommend this spot to others visiting ottawa. great casual spot with friendly staff. once you get through the long, but fast moving line to the counter, the cashiers were very helpful and didn't rush us even though we had questions. the have a seasonal and changing menu. once you order, you receive a table number marker to self seat and the staff will bring yourfoodonce ready. there were individual and communal tables along with a love seat in the back corner. there was a very good selection of sandwiches made with fresh in-house baked breads. the thai chicken sandwich was flavourful and had great crunch. the carrot ginger soup was warming and they did not skimp in ingredients for the clam chowder! the doughnuts were on the bready side but their croissants (we had almond and chocolate) were buttery and flaky. the coffees and cappuccinos were also a hit. there is a separate line for the baked goods which is helpful. overall i would definitely come again.

truly one of ottawa's gems. we've now been here several times and it never ever disappoints. the best way to describe it would be "that place that you bring your out of town friends/family and you want to impress them with your foodie choice."

everytime we've been the staff has been nothing short of superb, and very attentive. ourfoodhas always been very tasty and made with obvious care. this time around we have the beef tourtière. our only reservation is that the piece wasn't big enough!

yes, this spot is on the pricier side for a cafe type spot, but it is totally justified. one of our favourite places to eat; love the ambience, the relaxed atmosphere, and open concept feel.

art is in is one of my favourite lunchtime destinations. they've made changes to the interior recently, so there are a lot more places to sit inside, as well as outside. it looks a lot better now, although it's still pretty loud indoors.

i've never had a meal i didn't like here, although i tend to lean towards the different sandwiches. the thai chicken is stellar. the pastries are marvellous so don't leave without a little somethin' somethin'.

tip: arrive early for lunch and expect it to take a while. i don't mind the wait because it's goodfoodhere.

dropping by to pick up a loaf of bread? do it. best time to go is late in the afternoon after the lunch crowds have cleared out. sometimes the selection is picked over and depleted, but in my opinion the bread is very much worth going at this time just to avoid the rush.

note! the parking situation at the city centre has changed recently. it's free to park here for 90-minutes but you must get a parking chit from the machine and pick the "free" option. they do patrol and ticket, so consider yourself warned.

i wish i could give this place a better rating because thefoodreally is phenomenal, however it is definitely overpriced and the wait time is ridiculous. don't go here if you don't have time to spare. on my last visit i waited 35 mins for 2 sandwiches to-go after waiting 15 minutes in line to order them. definitely not a take out place unless you are just getting baked goods.
