they don’t add salt and spice !

waited for like 15 minutes for my turn...
dosa was special..it was crispy outside but it was thick and soft inside it is heavy.i ordered a sagu masala dosa. but they gave me a normal masala dosa.cant blame dem.it was full.but they dont let extra people inside.so dining will be pleasant.
vada was soaked in sambahar.not the way i like it.
coffee was great 👍well..karnataka and tamilnadu never disappoint us in the matter of coffees.

not one of the best... but the best dosa in the whole world!!!!! legendary for a reason and humbly priced. don’t leave bangalore without eating the dosas here and basically everything else too. there can be only 1 vidhyarthi bhavan ever!!! the only draw back- no home delivery for me🙏😊

half an hour waiting, queue during lunch hours is a common sight at vidyarthi bhawan. this place is popular as it provides excellent south indian darshini food since 70+ years now. the price points though have increased over last couple of years but it is still economical.
i love the service, it's promt and no nonsense. the dosa has a brilliant crisp, thanks to the ton of oil and love that goes into making it. the vada is amazing which comes dipped in a sambar bowl. the filter coffee ☕ is as authentic as one can get. and not to forget the kesari bhat to wrap your meal ans satisfy your sweet tooth.

the ambience is still old worldly but you do need such outlets to preserve the heritage of bangalore

being one of the oldest breakfast places in bangalore and staying this popular till now is an amazing feat in itself. there is always a good amount of waiting time here. the masala dosa here is pretty thick but it's crispy on the outside making it a different experience. the style of the rava vada is very different to what i experienced before. it's extremely crispy and it retains that crunch even when dipped in chutney for a very long time making it best when soaked in the chutney. the kesari bath and coffee are also good. but my parents did not like the steel plates and the food was quite different for andhra dosa and vada and they did not appreciate it much. definitely don't go in with expectations from a different place. it has its own style of the recipes.

vidyarthi bhavan was established in 1943 by a south karnataka family as a small canteen to serve students aka vidyarthi. now it's considered one of most popular south indian eateries in bangalore known for their ghee masala dose.

ambience:
-very cleanly maintained- all the waiters wore their masks correctly. hand sanitizers and hand-wash is available.
-gives off old bangalore/vintage vibe:) photographs of eminent artists from karnataka are hung on the wall.
-social distancing is forgotten outside the restaurant as the waiting area is small.

service:
-waiting time is between 30-40 minutes on weekends.
-quick and attentive service once the customers are in.

food:
-masale and plain dose: dose's texture is thick and crisp, which is worth admiring but it tasted okay! and chutney was also kinda bland. i really wanted to like it.
-coffee: fresh and little strong.
-kesari bath: not bad but i was left disappointed due to lack of pineapple chunks.

food: 3/5
service: 3.5/5
ambience: 4.5/5
qfm: 3/5

this is definitely not the best masala dosa i had in blr. it was very thick and chutney was so tasteless that we could not finish it. dosa is overrated. however sambar and idali was good and uddin vada was crunchy as well. as it's crowded , make sure to order vada as per your preference (dipped/separate). by default they get it dipped in sambar.

the dosa isn't tasty at all. i can understand that some places give decent food but get overhyped, but this one isn't even decent. add to that, we woke up early and travelled 10 km to try this place once. not at all worth it!

vidharthi bhavan is a perfect old charm of sitting in the background of old bangalore!!
