what this place does well, it does very well. smart ordering would make this place a must visit because the fried shrimp was the best i'd ever had. we stopped here for an early dinner, and were seated right away. we had seen on the reviews about the long waits, and a visit around 5 was perfect. our appetizers were very good. the hush puppies were good, and the fried green tomatoes were amazing. we got a cobb salad, which was balanced and delicious with noticeably fresh ingredients. we also got the surf and turf with a new york strip and fried shrimp. the steak was ordered medium and came medium-well, and was as bland as could be. the sides were sub-par. we paid too much for what we got. if we had gotten all seafood, the price would've been high, but fine. so stick with seafood, and you'll get your money's worth.

another great time!. we live nearby and enjoy dining on the deck overlooking the water. the boathouse has become one of our favorite dining venues. we've found the staff to always be polite, friendly, helpful, and efficient, and our most recent waiter, tim, was no exception. and (drum-roll, please) we've yet to have a less-than-great meal!

ok - but no "wow" factor. the boathouse has a pretty cool setting but "ok" is about all i can do- the low country boil was ok- pretty good taste- coconut shrimp- usually a favorite- not bad - just boring- the downside - service- if you are a middle aged male with your family forget any kind of real service - however most of our waiter's time seemed to be with a couple of tables across from us - kinda funny really, but not really good service-

my husband and i enjoyed our dinner at the boathouse! we waited at the bar for about an hour, while enjoying the shrimp/crab dip. it was delicious, served hot with pita/tortilla chips. for dinner i enjoyed the petite serving of the seafood pasta. it was the perfect size, loaded with seafood and a delicious white sauce, with no leftovers. my husband had the broiled seafood platter with red rice and fresh green beans. it was a generous portion of fresh seafood, the rice was perfect and the green beans were crisp. the bread that was served was wonderful. this was our second trip here and wont be our last!

a taste of hilton head. while visiting hilton head island my father voiced his desire to try an authentic low country boil so after attending the welcome to the time share breakfast we inquired a local his recommendation for best sea food restaurant on the island so we ended up at skull creek boathouse. it was during the week in october (not exactly high tourist season) so the restaurant wasn't too full when we arrived. sine we had reviewed the menu prior to coming we knew what we intended to order: a cup of the sea food chowder (creamy soup with crab, shrimp, scallops, fish, clams, and potatoes), the blackened fish tacos, the pecan ginger crusted mahi mahi with savannah red rice, and low country boil, the soup and my house salad were the first to arrive at the table and were okay. next came the entrees the mahi mahi was very tender and juice with a hint of the ginger spice, the fish tacos were good but there were only two to the order, and the low country boil was as described on the menu but missing any seasoning (old bay). for dessert we had a piece of key lime pie. the food was alright but i think i'll try a different seafood restaurant the next time i'm on hilton head island.

mediocre would not eat here again.. during our vacation on hilton head wanted one traditional fried seafood diner. since it was off season thought we would try this popular restaurant. very average, overhyped. had their 3 choice dinner, what was supposed to be local shrimp, sea scallops, devil crab. one small crab, 4 medium shrimp, 4 small scallops. mushy, little flavor, probably frozen. better seafood at local fish camps back home. save your time, and money, far better restaurants on hilton head.

mediocre seafood for the masses!. the food at this restaurant is average and overpriced. atmosphere is hectic, loud and not what you would expect for the prices. it is truly a tourist trap!

waste of time. 1. this place is busier than any place on hhi. 2. they do not take reservations (much like many restaurants on hhi). 3. the food and service is "average" at best. when i say average...i mean like applebees average. there is nothing special or interesting about this place. i live less than 5 minutes away in hhp, and im stunned at how busy it is. because so many friends and family want to eat there, ive been in at least 20-30 times, and im baffled. never once have i left thinking..."wow, that was a great dinner!" its a 4 out of 10

dang it's busy!. i so rather eat here in the winter than during the summer tourist season. food and service is great *(well, except for one visit sunday may 1st, 2011 where there were 12 empty tables at 8:30pm and the "manager" and hostess said "how many? 5? okay, it'll be an hour wait." wtf?! seriously?) but overall, this is a great place for food, atmosphere and a good time.
