good, not great. i had dinner tonight with my husband and two young children. the atmosphere is relaxed and family friendly. i liked that it felt like a popular hhi eatery. the location and views seemed nice but we weren't fortunate enough to be seated at a table with a water view. the parking lot was congested and flooded due to rain. the long walk to the restaurant was no big deal for us but might be a consideration if someone in your party has difficulty walking. our server was friendly. i ordered a seafood combo plate which included crab cakes, scallops and stuffedshrimpwith rice and veggies. it was good but not memorable. the rice was heavily seasoned and didn't compliment the seafood at all. crab cakes and scallops were good. the stuffedshrimpwas weird. the stuffing had an odd flavor and there was practically noshrimpmeat. husband ordered a surf and turf with ny strip and shrimp. again, good but not great.

good view, tasty food, live music outside until 9p, decent prices, long wait even on weeknight (aka eat at the bar = no wait)... we got 1lb peel n eatshrimp$17, 4 deviled eggs $3.50, green beans $3, tuna sashimi $10, scallop ceviche $9, pinot noir $7, jim beam $5.50. overall thumbs up!

went for dinner on a monday. there was a large crowd so i sat at the bar. had a spicy bloody mary which was good. peel and eatshrimpand a basket of hush puppies and i was full. service was good. they had a pretty comprehensive selection of seafood items as well as some fresh fish choices and several oyster choices. all in all worth the trip out there (it can be a long ride at the end of he day depending on where you’re staying) particularly if you’re a fan of seafood. 3.5 stars

loved this place! ate for lunch yesterday. sat outside on a warm june day and didn't melt to death thanks to all of the fans they have blowing and the cool breeze off the water. beautiful views. our waitress was very informative and attentive. food was brought out timely and delicious! generous portions! huge menu to choose from. i had the broiled sea scallops andshrimpand husband had a cobia quesadilla. everything tasted very fresh. would definitely return and recommend to anyone looking for fresh seafood and friendly service. :)

this is one of the classic vacation dining experiences that everyone in your group remembers and wants to repeat each year. there is usually an hour wait but here's a tip, first come - first serve seating at the tables outside by the bar. even if you have to wait there is enough to do to keep the little ones happy with outdoor games, watching the boats, outdoor bar and shopping in the general store. grab a drink and settle in.

they have a huge menu and it can be hard to decide. freshly caught fish is always good but if that's not your thing then the crab cakes orshrimpand grits will not disappoint. seafood platters are good and an easy decision for something that will have you rubbing your belly the rest of the night. i've had hit or miss experiences with the shellfish as far as preparation goes and it is usually over cooked. sushi is good but you can expect a pretty long wait for it if you are thinking about having it for an appetizer(you will probably get your meal before it comes out).

speaking of apps, the crab dip is good, the fried green tomatoes with goat cheese and sautéed hot peppers is my favorite. portions are smaller for appetizers so don't expect to have enough for a party of more than 3-4.

overall, we keep going back and that has as much to do with the atmosphere as it does the food. both are good but together it makes it an enjoyable evening. it's worth the wait and take advantage of the free valet service instead of fighting for parking.

what this place does well, it does very well. smart ordering would make this place a must visit because the friedshrimpwas the best i'd ever had. we stopped here for an early dinner, and were seated right away. we had seen on the reviews about the long waits, and a visit around 5 was perfect. our appetizers were very good. the hush puppies were good, and the fried green tomatoes were amazing. we got a cobb salad, which was balanced and delicious with noticeably fresh ingredients. we also got the surf and turf with a new york strip and fried shrimp. the steak was ordered medium and came medium-well, and was as bland as could be. the sides were sub-par. we paid too much for what we got. if we had gotten all seafood, the price would've been high, but fine. so stick with seafood, and you'll get your money's worth.

the low country boil w shrimp,shrimpand moreshrimpwas delicious. enough for two to three. location was amazing. on the bay w a big bar to serve you. friendly atmosphere. glad to see its a spot the locals also go to. coming back to next time w visit

great view, great vibe, food ok. we had an amazing view of the intercoastal waters and boats while we sat underneath a tall tree that kept us in the shade. we kept getting hit by some berries from the tree, but it was no big deal, but we were right by the bar that had nice ocean vibe to it. our food was ok i guess. this place is definitely must go to because of the views. our apps were great but entrees alright for the price. we got the hush puppies, calamari and coconut shrimp. all three were amazing. my steamedshrimpwas a little bland and my wife's friendshrimpwas "eh, ok" i guess. definitely paying for the atmosphere and scenery than the entrees, but great apps.

the bread and crab legs were great. however, theshrimpwere okay at best. i asked the waiter if the mac and cheese was from a box and he said no. box mac and cheese would have been better. also service was terrible. we were not even acknowledged and sat waiting for almost 15 minutes before they ever even came to our table.

i fell in love with boathouse last year! we try to return as often as we can when on the island! just thinking about theshrimpand crab dip is enough to inspire a road trip! the bbq bacon wrappedshrimpis delectable ~just need to remember to order it more on the well side if you are not a sushi lover. the coconut/almondshrimpis good too. my hubby ordered the seafood stew, which sounded less than appealling to me, but he gave it his thumbs up, with a side note that the tomato sauce was a tad overpowering. great atmospere on the water~ the kids saw a few dolphin friends and we see you soon! got our usual great family photo opp on the dock with our pelican stand in~

for a two hour wait, it was just ok. friedshrimpwere good. side dishes were cold. best thing was the bread and hush puppies. bread was so fresh and had a corn meal crust. i could have eaten that all night! husband had the steamshrimpwhich was delicious but his sides were cold as well. i might would go back just a lot earlier

so so seafood. my husband and i ate here on the first night during our stay at hilton head. i was fairly disappointed with the seafood. we had calamari for an appetizer, and for our meals we ordered theshrimpbroil and fried shrimp. it was not fresh seafood! the best part of our meal was the bread and sweet tea. service was good...

great food and variety!. we loved the atmosphere and the wide variety of choices at the boathouse. i chose theshrimpand crab quesadillas. it was really great and different. my husband loved the trio with flounder, scallops and shrimp. definitely worth going to this place. the atmosphere is on the water and you look at the boats and visit the docks after dinner.

nice place food not so great. got the royal sampler: crab cake was good but lacked any hint of salt and vinegar flavor, stuffedshrimpwere cold, and had a uncooked scallop. caesar was strange. gf liked the filet milanese.

first visit. we have been to the island many times...loved it so much we bought a time share and come back every year. this was our first visit....it was wonderful!!! arrived at 600 pm and told it would be an hour and 45 minute wait. normally i would have said see ya but i had read such great reviews about this place i wanted to stay. the place is set up wonderfully for the wait with lots of things to do for adults and children....there is an outdoor bar, bean bag toss (corn hole for you yankees), chalk for your artistic side and an avenue to walk down the landing to see the boats and well just be near the water. enough about the place on to the food. it was delish!!! i was raised in south carolina and know good seafood when i get it. i spent many years in murrell's inlet and that is a tough act to follow. we ordered the hush puppies (duh, i said i was raised in sc) twice, then was served a wonderful basket of hot bread and butter. our table ordered...fish fingers and fries (kids), a pound of hotshrimp(good only comment was more seasoning), friedshrimpand fried flounder platter (yum), and the great white north (although i stayed with my fried selection the husband and kids loved the crab legs). there were 5 of us and normally there is only part of my dinner to take home but no one could finish all the food from their entree. i can not wait for left overs!!!
this will be our must come to place every year from now on!!! well done!!
