i like chimes. chimes has the best corn & shrimp soup i've ever tasted. it is truly delicious!! their pasta dishes are good, too. the fried seafood platters leaves something to be desired. not a fan of those. but those margaritas are to die for!!!!!!

i went into chimes and thought this place is very fun looking a good spot for a few friends to hang out! well my thoughts didn't match what happend to me! i went in and sat down and our server came up and asked us for drinks and i could help but be shocked by what she had on very short shorts and a chimes tee.. well it took maybe 10 mins to get a diet coke and water. then i ordered the crab cakes and my boyfriend jambalaya with catfish.. he said his was very good but mine wasn't to say the least.. i think of soft when i think of crab cakes and not deep fried with some very bland sause! i was not happy at all i let the server know and she went to get i would guess the kitchen mgr because he want very friendly or in the people pleaser mood! he told me that even though i didn't eat but one bite he couldn't take the crab cakes off my bill he just said " that's the way we make them " and asked me if i wanted to get something else and i said no and he said i had to get something because that's the way they did things! needles to say i will never go back to this place! there are many other places i can spend my money for something i will eat and enjoy!

i hesitate telling people my favorite spots because i don't want everyone clogging up the joint. but everyone already knows about this one.

used to be a favorite place to eat for my whole family, but not any more. in the last year, the chimes has really gone to hell. service used to be great, now the service is awful. the quality of the seafood is clearly inferior, and this began well before the oil spill. portions are smaller too. unfortunately, this usually spells the beginning of the end for a place like the chimes. they will lose their regulars, then their local business. they will continue to limp along for years though, surviving on tourists and cooter-bob types from the boonies. the once-great bar even sucks now. rip chimes.

never disappoints. my husband and i started going to the chimes long before we were married. we were thrilled when they decided to expand and add a coursey location. the chimes east has a more family friendly, open atmosphere. the food is wonderful. it does not matter what i am in the mood for, the kitchen never disappoints. between my husband and myself, we have probably eaten everything on the menu at one time of another. in addition, my husband particularly loves the numerous options of draft beer (a beer drinkers delight) and looks forward to trying a new kind everytime.

good seafood!. this was my first time at chimes! i ordered the raw oysters & the red beans and rice. oysters were a decent size and cheaper than acme. red beans & rice were served with plenty of sausage. chimes has a nice bar with a large beer menu. this place fills up fast in the evening with seating on two levels and outside. with 647 votes and an 87% approval rating says a lot!

order the fried stuff. i've been to chimes east quite a few times before & always enjoyed it, but i went with 2 friends the other night & we ordered the specials. two of us ordered the mahi mahi gilled & covered with crabmeat & mushrooms & the other ordered the ribeye rare with the same topping. we were very surprized at how tasteless & bland the food was. we discussed it & decided that the manager would probably appreciate knowing this so it could be corrected. wrong, we got an extremely long explanation as to how the fish was delicate, it required no seasoning, that's right none & that went for the steak as well. we were very sorry we called him over. then when dessert came, the fudge brownie sundae was burned. obviously, we didn't call him back.

one of br's best. after katrina, i quit trying to go anyplace near lsu -- the traffic at all hours and the lack of parking just aren't worth it -- so i was pleased when they opened the coursey location. nice, pleasant building, too. i always go for lunch, and i always try to get there just a whisker ahead of the noontime rush, and i've never had to wait. like most of their customers, although i've tried most things on the menu at least once, there are a few items i really like and i tend to cycle through them. best is the fried catfish, which comes with first-rate hush puppies. after that is the red beans & rice with sausage, with which i usually get a big tossed salad. that's a full, satisfying meal right there. i tend to judge "american" restaurants by their club sandwiches, and the chimes club is one of the best around; the blackened chicken breast makes it. finally, the crab cakes is listed as an appetizer, but it's large enough to make a good lunch -- if you can keep other people at the table from insisting you share it. if i'm having lunch with two or three others, we generally get the onion rings to split among the group, too -- they're close to perfection. and whatever sort of beer i'm in the mood for, i know i'll find it on the chimes's huge, multi-page beer menu. how can you beat a place that offers all of that?
