one of br's best. after katrina, i quit trying to go anyplace near lsu -- the traffic at all hours and the lack of parking just aren't worth it -- so i was pleased when they opened the coursey location. nice, pleasant building, too. i always go for lunch, and i always try to get there just a whisker ahead of the noontime rush, and i've never had to wait. like most of their customers, although i've tried most things on the menu at least once, there are a few items i really like and i tend to cycle through them. best is the fried catfish, which comes with first-rate hush puppies. after that is the red beans & rice with sausage, with which i usually get a big tossed salad. that's a full, satisfying meal right there. i tend to judge "american" restaurants by their club sandwiches, and the chimes club is one of the best around; the blackened chicken breast makes it. finally, the crab cakes is listed as an appetizer, but it's large enough to make a good lunch -- if you can keep other people at the table from insisting you share it. if i'm having lunch with two or three others, we generally get the onion rings to split among the group, too -- they're close to perfection. and whatever sort of beer i'm in the mood for, i know i'll find it on the chimes's huge, multi-page beer menu. how can you beat a place that offers all of that?
