completely unprepared for mother's day. thepeopleat the front desk couldn't give estimated times, the restaurant had most of its tables setup for large parties and the inept management would not seat smaller parties...apparent the business of parties of 4 are not important to the business. very unprofessional, and the front desk folks were rude to top it off; spend your time and money elsewhere where thepeopleactually want your business. this place is not worth it.

great!. love this place!! great food, fun bar!! a great place to have dinner and drinks.peopleare usually skeptical about new locations of classic restaurants such as the chime's, but this is a great way to enjoy the chime's food on the other side of town!

service was quite slow and food was mediocre. was also slightly overpriced. i would not recommend to otherpeopleas a restaurant. it's a better bar rather than an eatery. there location near louisiana state university is better.

my boyfriend and i went to the chimes east to celebrate my birthday and enjoy sunday nfl football. we had a really good time watching the saints game and met some really nicepeopleat the bar.

a couple of days later my boyfriend checked his bill statement online and noticed something was off with the amount he was being charged. he calmly called the restaurant to figure out what was wrong. he then came to find out he was charged for a $200 tip in stead of a $20 tip. the manager told him there was nothing she could do because she has a signed copy of the receipt and they have me signing it on camera. even though he never said i didn't sign the check.

i then went to the restaurant after work to speak to the manager in person. i was then told the same thing. i asked to have a copy of the receipt. the receipt clearly has 20.00. i told her that i did not leave a $200 tip and left a $20.00 tip. the manager then got devensive and said "we perceive the tip amount differently". the $180 difference is is huge and we need to get this corrected asap. the managers response was that the bartenders have already been paid and you're going to need to file this with your bank. which doesn't make any sense because whoever entered the tip amount made the mistake and not the bank. also, the bartender was paid $180 when they never should have received it.

unfortunately the manager refused to help us receive the money we never intended to have left my boyfriends bank account. needless to say, we will not be returning to any of the chimes chains due to the poor customer service. we strongly advice to check your bill statements if you choose to dine at the chimes east or any of their other restaurants.

in town for work. highly recommended letdown. nothing "wrong" but was expecting something local and this has the feel of chain food. had raw oysters, boudin balls, and the shrimp app. oysters were muddy, boudin balls could've been anything fried up, and the shrimp were not jumbo...i wasn't even certain they were gulf shrimp, but i'll give the benefit of the doubt. nice beer selection but the server had me open the website on my phone to look at the beer menu. pet peeve. it's hard enough to getpeopleto put our goddamn phones down at dinner and now the restaurants want us to pick them up first thing? is a piece of paper so hard? grrr.... won't be back.

management should be reconsidered. last night, for my sisters birthday, a group of 9 plus myself chose to celebrate at chimes for the occasion. we arrive and are seated within 10-15 min, no complaint there. after being seated, the waiter immediately began taking drink orders, and when he got to me i ordered my drink and appetizer- spinach and artichoke dip with bowtie pasta (which i already knew i wanted because thats the only appetizer i ever get when going to chimes). drinks came quick, appetizers came shortly after. i took one bite of the appetizer and was immediately disgusted. i gave one to a friend and she said the same. in efforts to not have to return the appetizer, i took another bite, hoping that maybe it would taste different, unfortunately it did not, so i called my waiter and told him that i did not want the appetizer because of the taste. he asked if there was anything wrong with it and my exact words were 'it tastes nasty'. then he went on to try to persuade me to keep it or try something else, but i did not want to as that was the only appetizer that i wanted. so he went a told the manager, thats when things went south...quickly. before the manager gets there, though, he has time to take our dinner orders and i order the chimes boat load. after taking all orders, he leaves and the manager arrives shortly after and asks who had the dip and i responded. he too asked if there was anything wrong with the dip or pasta and again i reply 'it tastes nasty and i do not want it'. he tells me that i can order another appetizer, and i tell him that i do not want another appetizer. he again says 'well i can get you another appetizer' and i again say 'but i do not want another appetizer as that was the only appetizer i wanted here'. we go back and forth with this 3 times, it had gotten to the point where everyone at the table stopped and was so astonished as to how rude he was being towards me. i asked him if it was chimes' policy that a refund cannot be given, even if the food is unsatisfactory, he tells me yes and in the rudest way tells me that 'we don't have to put it on the menu'. now, im pretty sure that he has gotten away with this on other occasions with many otherpeoplethat do not know their rights, but i do and i requested to see the policy in their store that says that no refund can be given on food that is unsatisfactory and uneaten, he completely disregards my request. so now i'm really upset and tell him that he can cancel my chimes boat load. he then tells me that i would have to pay for the boat load too because i already ordered it. in what world does this guy live in?!!?. i tell him that the waiter just took our order not even 5min before he came to our table. i proceed to say that i do work for a law firm (wished i didn't even have to do that) and that i am well aware of my rights, and his response takes the cake 'i don't care that you work at a law firm, what does that mean'. i could have been petty and said 'yea, and you work at chimes fixing my food' but i didn't, i told him that i was not paying for anything when nothing was eaten. this manager was trying to make me pay for $40 worth of food that i did not eat or even get yet, now correct me if im wrong, but in the legal profession, that's stealing. so finally he takes the dip and leaves, but not before he tells me that i cannot order anything else lol, like i was going to anyway. the management experience there has cause myself and everyone that was at the table to agree to never go there again. i plan on taking this to his district manager and even headquarters, especially when i came here to give a review of my experience and saw how manypeopleactually have negative experiences there and more than one with the manager, the person who is suppose to solve the problems, not create them. now i was going to pay for my meal as well as my sisters meal which would have ran me about $80-$90, so the main person losing out here is the waiter, he could have had a very nice tip from the 18% gratuity plus i was going to leave something additional because ive been a waitress and i know what its like, but he can thank his friendly chimes' management for that. my suggestion, fire the manager.

awful service and awful management. i ate at the chimes east with a group ofpeoplefor lunch on monday. the server did not make a effort to find out information that i requested until i asked him to please ask if the item was no fat. i was the only lady at the table and he waited on everyone before me. my order was messed up with another order so he had to return the two dishes back to swap the food. he then said he would be back with my mayonnaise which took hi, longer than it should have. he had the mayonnaise in a covered plastic container and throw it on the table and walked away. i called out asking if it was no or low fat and he said "no." he knew i did not want regular mayo and was not going to tell me. he never came to offer to fill up my glass of water. he was also serving another large party and other smaller tables not giving my party attention. i did not feel the service or food was with 18% gratuity tip. i told the waiter i did not leave the whole tip and he said fine. suddenly, a young girl came charging to my table and loudly drew attention to my ticket and money i front of my party. she was aggressive, anger and demanding. i was embarrassed and humiliated. i told her not to discuss this at the table in front of everyone. as i was getting up and before i could finish saying let us go to the register to discuss, she abruptly turned around and barged off saying she wii get the manager. i was following her and asked her to slow down because i did not know where she was going. i waited for the manager to come out of the kitchen. he was unfriendly, uncaring, uninterested, unprofessional and rude. he made judgmental and sarcastic faces at my explanation without an apology over $1.23. i later called to speak to another manager who was no better. all he was concerned about is why there is an18% gratuity tip not the inappropriate behavior or poor service. i called the chimes near l s u. the owner was not there so i was referred to a manager. he had the same closed mind attitude. he asked for my name. i thought he was going to offer a gift card to keep my business even though i would not accept one as that was not my intent nor was i going to go out of my way to go to either restaurant. he did not offer me anything. i told him i would never go eat at either chimes nor will i ever recommend this restaurant. these managers and employees do not have proper customer service, social etiquette or work ethics. i had an awful dining experience. very callous and selfish.

still the same trainwreck. just another to add to the long list ofpeoplethat feel the area would be better served by this place closing. the hostess situation is terrible. they honestly act like you're the problem for not wanting to wait 45 mins for a table, when the place is half full. the apathy is present in large amounts.
i wouldnt be able to tell you how the food is, since our party told the 19 year old with the attitude where she should stick her apathy and left.

nice work chimes.

the girl friend experience. i've eaten here off and on for many years and sitting in the outdoor area on international women's day i realized that it was time to do a review - i think what triggered this was our server arriving with the beer that we'd ordered and finding that the side-salad was already on the table, "damn that was fast" she said. we'd only been there about ten minutes after all ... ten minutes at chimes and we already had the side-salad on the table and beer!

that's when it came to me - what sets the chimes apart from all other eating and drinking establishments in baton rouge is that the chimes alone offers the full girl friend experience. not your current girl friend i hasten to add ... no, this is your first serious girl friend, the one that always said she could cook but let's face it - we're weren't there for her cooking. she was tremendous fun, had a thirst like a dredger, and could do shots and dance all night so we forgave her for the cooking, ate what was placed in front of us and went afterwards to drink and party.

chimes has the best selection of beer in baton rouge, it's a fun place to visit and with a group of friends you're pretty much guaranteed to enjoy yourself. most of the customers are students, ex-students or folks who vaguely remember going to college and still have the tattoo from the morning they got really drunk in mexico - and that profile probably fits most of thepeoplewho work here too.

so please, don't bring your mother here for a meal - she's not going to enjoy it anymore than she would if your first girl friend had cooked it. chimes serves food to soak up the alcohol - it's functional and generally edible, nothing to complain about - but instead of complaining about the service, or the quality of the food - try a new beer and hang out for a few hours ... like you used to in college with your girl friend - you're not here for the food after all.

terrible host staff(management maybe). i don't write many bad reviews and this is the first i've written about a place i like but it's my hope the owners will fix the problem since i know this problem hasn't always been here. not that it'll cost them business in the short term since they're so popular but maybe long term matters to them. i actively avoid chimes east now days if i'm going to eat with a group of more than 6 people. further it's lowering my desire to go over there ever. i will drive out of my way to the original by campus.

it's been on multiple occasions impossible to get seated in less than a half hour with an empty dining area. the host station staff seems incapable of making a decision on who to sit and where. more irritating is that you can look in the dining area and see multiple tables available but they won't push them together and seatpeoplefor unknown reason. this last time i experienced it i was able to watch them do the same thing to another group of 8peopleright after they sat us after a 45 minute wait in a half empty restaurant. amazingly bad and i theorize it has something to do with how the host section is run. i will note that after you get seated the waitstaff is on top of things.

i am pretty sure if they addressed what to me is terrible hosting they'd turn tables over faster because they'd seat them faster. whoever the manager was yesterday has got to get tired of tellingpeople"i'm sorry" and fix things or they need a new manager.

one last thing which made the thing more irritating was one of the hosts was sitting there reading what was obviously a personal book at the greeting station whilepeoplesat waiting. who allows their employees to lose focus on their job enough to read a book while at work? shoudn't this person be doing something like....say....figuring out how to seat thepeoplewaiting?

i went into chimes and thought this place is very fun looking a good spot for a few friends to hang out! well my thoughts didn't match what happend to me! i went in and sat down and our server came up and asked us for drinks and i could help but be shocked by what she had on very short shorts and a chimes tee.. well it took maybe 10 mins to get a diet coke and water. then i ordered the crab cakes and my boyfriend jambalaya with catfish.. he said his was very good but mine wasn't to say the least.. i think of soft when i think of crab cakes and not deep fried with some very bland sause! i was not happy at all i let the server know and she went to get i would guess the kitchen mgr because he want very friendly or in thepeoplepleaser mood! he told me that even though i didn't eat but one bite he couldn't take the crab cakes off my bill he just said " that's the way we make them " and asked me if i wanted to get something else and i said no and he said i had to get something because that's the way they did things! needles to say i will never go back to this place! there are many other places i can spend my money for something i will eat and enjoy!

one of br's best. after katrina, i quit trying to go anyplace near lsu -- the traffic at all hours and the lack of parking just aren't worth it -- so i was pleased when they opened the coursey location. nice, pleasant building, too. i always go for lunch, and i always try to get there just a whisker ahead of the noontime rush, and i've never had to wait. like most of their customers, although i've tried most things on the menu at least once, there are a few items i really like and i tend to cycle through them. best is the fried catfish, which comes with first-rate hush puppies. after that is the red beans & rice with sausage, with which i usually get a big tossed salad. that's a full, satisfying meal right there. i tend to judge "american" restaurants by their club sandwiches, and the chimes club is one of the best around; the blackened chicken breast makes it. finally, the crab cakes is listed as an appetizer, but it's large enough to make a good lunch -- if you can keep otherpeopleat the table from insisting you share it. if i'm having lunch with two or three others, we generally get the onion rings to split among the group, too -- they're close to perfection. and whatever sort of beer i'm in the mood for, i know i'll find it on the chimes's huge, multi-page beer menu. how can you beat a place that offers all of that?

eatrouge.com review: chimes east. for lunch today, i decided on one of baton rouge's favorite restaurants, the chimes. normally i go for the seafood poboys or pasta which are fantastic, but today i decided on the rabbit and sausage gumbo with side salad.

the gumbo here is served very thick, something unusual when it comes to gumbo, and served over a bed of rice. the taste is truly fantastic and definitely one of the best gumbos i have ever eaten. the big chucks of rabbit meat and andouille sausage work very well together and the thickness of the gumbo itself make the meal more filling. i'm stuffed for now, but i'm sure i'll be craving this meal again later.

calling all beer connoisseurs! one really cool feature of the chimes is the "round the world beer challenge". this challenges guest to drink 60 beers from 20 different countries (not is one trip of course). if you succeed in doing so, you will be immortalized on the wall plaque.

food rating: 5 out of 5 claws up!

service
the chimes is a very popular place to eat. being constantly packed, it can make it hard to get a seat and your food out quickly.

when i arrived, there was a wait so i decided to go sit at the bar area for my meal. we sat straight down and ordered our drinks. the waitress was friendly but a little slow to take out order once we were ready because of all the drinks she was making forpeopleat the bar. but all in all she did a pretty good job for all thepeopleshe had to serve and it really didn't take long for the food to come out. whatever wait i had, it was well worth it.

service rating: 4 out of 5 claws up!

atmosphere
the chimes has a great atmosphere featuring a patio, bar area, televisions, upper and lower deck and the around the world beer challenge. its clean, open, and fun.

atmosphere rating: 4.5 out of 5 claws up!

overall: 13.5 out of 15
