stewby's seafood shanty

awesome seafood place.  the food is local, quick (especially for how crowded it gets), and very delicious.  the building is small, but unique and has charm.  if you go during peak times know the parking lot fills up and the drive thru line will wrap all the way around the building and out the parking lot.  dealing with the wait and crowds is worth it though.  one of the top places in the area.

ordered for carry out and prepared quite fast. read reviews and must agree with the previous comments, grilled fish and grilled chicken tacos were delicious. flavorful meat combined with good toppings. can not say the same thing about the fried shrimp sandwich. average bun with bland tasting shrimp coupled with cole slaw that just did not mesh well with the shrimp. overall, good food (with exception) and would eat here again.

the grilled fish is fabulous! i go there for lunch regularly with my girlfriends. i recommend it to friends and family when they come in town. no disappointments ever. thanks for the friendly service and comfortable atmosphere as well. see you soon!

very good! super clean- nice folks...good price for the extremely delish food you get --hubby love the potato salad better than mine! and the oysters just melt in your mouth- yum & double yum!

first time to eat at stewby's today, may 21st. i had the grilled amberjack tacos and they were delicious! husband had grilled amberjack sandwich and he said it was the best fish sandwich he has had in years. we were former fans of sam's oyster house and this hits the spot! not sure if former blogger who said the place is closed is a competitor, but this place is open and thriving! excellent!!!!

awesome oysters!. recently, my husband got a take out order here and i jhave to say the oysters were awesome! just juicy and expertly breaded and fried. we would eat here a lot more if they offered beer...as we like (cold) beer with our seafood. so quite often we go somewhere else so that we can sip a few beers and hang out and eat over a longer period of time. as it is, this is more of a stop-in/quick eat kind of place -- a really really really good drive thru. i just wish the atmosphere and adult drink menu reflected the quality of their food.

a perfect solid. there isn't anything fancy on the menu. nothing is unique or special, unless you've lived around here long enough to know places that serve extremely fresh seafood, simply but expertly prepared, at a very reasonable price and fast -- are indeed "unique and special"!!!

this is where the locals go for casual seafood if we aren't making it at home. (if our fishing trips have been unfruitful.) i've had everything on the menu, just about. it's all good. haven't had a single thing i didn't like, a lot.

some minor quibbles -- i wish the buns they used for the sandwiches could hold up to the moist coleslaw without going to mush after a few bites. maybe offering a po-boy roll for those who like a sturdier bite would be an option, while still appeasing the folks who prefer the standard roll. also, my mother doesn't like their fried fish because she likes crunch and is terribly afraid of any food being undercooked. (psst...don't eat the eggs at her house, or the pork chops, or the steak.) the fried fish here is lightly battered and fried just until it's cooked through, tender and lightly crispy. it's difficult to get thicker pieces of fresh fish *crunchy* because it's moist -- and i think it's kind of a crime to cook fresh fish to that point anyway. but, offering a "thin crispy fried" option would really make some older folks happy!! in any case, we eat seafood two places: my house and stewby's.

can't stop thinking about stewby's. our second night in ft walton we ate an early dinner at stewby's. it was amazing! the gumbo was fabulous, calamari is fresh, cheese grits were delicious..... and the list goes on and on and on... nothing disappointed my family. since we are on vacation we have tried many different places to eat and nothing has compared. the staff there were great and cheerful. i can't wait until our last night, we've all agreed we would end it all there.

may 4, 2012. nice clean restaurant with convenient take-out service. food was very good, served hot to order and tasted very fresh-no greasy fried food taste. will definitely return on next visit and will recommend to friends. enjoyed the local fresh catch, white snapper fish-of-the-day!

excellent value. would like to see scallops on the menu.

what a great little gem worth hunting to find.. we are not big fans of fried seafood and normally prefer grilled, baked or pan seared, but here we will make an exception. the food here is light and not greasy, cooked to perfection, and seasoned about right. living just an hours drive away, we usually go down to this area 3 or 4 times a year and like to seek out different restaurants. this one is worth the effort. don't go here expecting a sit down waitered meal with the ambiance flowing. this is just what the name implies, a seafood shanty. it is a small place with about 12 picnic style tables to sit at. you place your order at the window, and you pick your food up at the pick up window, if this place was located on the beach, it would have to be three times bigger to accomidate the crowds. even where it is located, it is very busy, and for good reason. this is certainly the best fried food that we have had in the area, and i would say, one of the better seafood restaurants in the area, just don't expect fancy. the prices are very reasonable, unlike most of the places around the beach area. don't miss this place if you are a fan of good food.

in the area for a fishing trip and still wanted fish for dinner. pulled into the parking lot, line was out into the parking lot waiting to get in. but saving grace. the is a drive up window 15 min had my fish platter. oysters. shrimp. mahi. hush puppies great flavor and plenty . and any wheelchairs uses like myself. the ramp is in the back will go back for sure

all i can say is take my money! this place has the best seafood in fort walton period! i can't remember a single time i ate anything from here that didn't taste amazing. fresh fish daily and everything cooked to order and cooked to perfection. if you are traveling through fort walton do yourself a favor and stop here you won't be disappointed.
