stewby's seafood shanty

first time to eat at stewby's today, may 21st. i had the grilled amberjack tacos and they were delicious! husband had grilled amberjack sandwich and he said it was the best fish sandwich he has had in years. we were former fans of sam's oyster house and this hits the spot! not sure if former blogger who said theplaceis closed is a competitor, but thisplaceis open and thriving! excellent!!!!

awesome oysters!. recently, my husband got a take out order here and i jhave to say the oysters were awesome! just juicy and expertly breaded and fried. we would eat here a lot more if they offered beer...as we like (cold) beer with our seafood. so quite often we go somewhere else so that we can sip a few beers and hang out and eat over a longer period of time. as it is, this is more of a stop-in/quick eat kind ofplace-- a really really really good drive thru. i just wish the atmosphere and adult drink menu reflected the quality of their food.

a perfect solid. there isn't anything fancy on the menu. nothing is unique or special, unless you've lived around here long enough to know places that serve extremely fresh seafood, simply but expertly prepared, at a very reasonable price and fast -- are indeed "unique and special"!!!

this is where the locals go for casual seafood if we aren't making it at home. (if our fishing trips have been unfruitful.) i've had everything on the menu, just about. it's all good. haven't had a single thing i didn't like, a lot.

some minor quibbles -- i wish the buns they used for the sandwiches could hold up to the moist coleslaw without going to mush after a few bites. maybe offering a po-boy roll for those who like a sturdier bite would be an option, while still appeasing the folks who prefer the standard roll. also, my mother doesn't like their fried fish because she likes crunch and is terribly afraid of any food being undercooked. (psst...don't eat the eggs at her house, or the pork chops, or the steak.) the fried fish here is lightly battered and fried just until it's cooked through, tender and lightly crispy. it's difficult to get thicker pieces of fresh fish *crunchy* because it's moist -- and i think it's kind of a crime to cook fresh fish to that point anyway. but, offering a "thin crispy fried" option would really make some older folks happy!! in any case, we eat seafood two places: my house and stewby's.

what a great little gem worth hunting to find.. we are not big fans of fried seafood and normally prefer grilled, baked or pan seared, but here we will make an exception. the food here is light and not greasy, cooked to perfection, and seasoned about right. living just an hours drive away, we usually go down to this area 3 or 4 times a year and like to seek out different restaurants. this one is worth the effort. don't go here expecting a sit down waitered meal with the ambiance flowing. this is just what the name implies, a seafood shanty. it is a smallplacewith about 12 picnic style tables to sit at. youplaceyour order at the window, and you pick your food up at the pick up window, if thisplacewas located on the beach, it would have to be three times bigger to accomidate the crowds. even where it is located, it is very busy, and for good reason. this is certainly the best fried food that we have had in the area, and i would say, one of the better seafood restaurants in the area, just don't expect fancy. the prices are very reasonable, unlike most of the places around the beach area. don't miss thisplaceif you are a fan of good food.

all i can say is take my money! thisplacehas the best seafood in fort walton period! i can't remember a single time i ate anything from here that didn't taste amazing. fresh fish daily and everything cooked to order and cooked to perfection. if you are traveling through fort walton do yourself a favor and stop here you won't be disappointed.

inconvenient for us (we live in destin) but, we finally tried thisplacefor lunch. like an old florida fish camp. very good! good size portions at a decent price. very fresh.

on vacation and found thisplaceby accident. everything was excellent. i might even come back before we head back to chattanooga!

stewby's theplaceto eat. we love stewby's. the service is great and everyone is so friendly and helpful. the bathrooms are the cleanest of any restaurant in town. the deck is so great and the food is exceptional. you can always count on the fish tasting great and the coleslaw being the best. you won't be sorry if you go to stewby's. oh and prices are great and i'm a tight wod.

awesome!. food was very good, probably more of a lunchplacethan dinner....but very good food! only thing these guys lack is the availability of cold beer! i'd probably never go anywhere else. they only have outside covered seating if that's an issue for anyone....it shouldn't be!

thisplacewas super convenient.  i had the fish tacos, and they were great.  it has a drive through, and the wait was minimal.  i highly recommend thisplacewhen you want something quick and easy.

just like most other reviews; the food was great and the staff is very friendly. keep in mind it's name includes the word 'shanty' and it is. it's a clean well run seafood shanty but you enter, stand in line,placeyour order, try to find aplaceto sit. we shared a table with a very nice elderly lady and had a nice conversation with her. she was a local and knew a lot about the history of ft. walton. they call your receipt number over the pa, you pick up and enjoy.
it was fun the food was good. i had the fried oyster platter, shhh, don't tell my doctor. oh, the sides are really good too. i had fried okra and cheese grits. ha! i also had a cup of seafood gumbo that was delicious and healthy, right?
glad we went and if we are in ft. walton again we'll go back.

i've been to stewby's many times! it's my go to seafood place! way better than the big vacation spot seafood places! great prices, too! i've had their fried shrimp, grilled shrimp and fried oysters along with potato salad and okra! thisplaceis by far one of my favorites!

love. we wanted a localplacewith fresh seafood, and that's exactly what we got! everything on the menu is delicious, fresh, and there's no such thing as a bad choice. good food paired with fantastic staff that knows what they're talking about, it's the perfect spot. highly recommended!

fish chasers. came from austin looking for the best seafood and have been chasing fish all week. this littleplacehas out done them all! wonderful mahi and shrimp, great sides chased with good old southern iced tea! flagged it as a favorite in the brain, the stomach, and the gps... will make plans to be back!!
