ordered for carry out and prepared quite fast. read reviews and must agree with the previous comments, grilled fish and grilled chicken tacos were delicious. flavorful meat combined with good toppings. can not say the same thing about thefriedshrimp sandwich. average bun with bland tasting shrimp coupled with cole slaw that just did not mesh well with the shrimp. overall, good food (with exception) and would eat here again.

awesome oysters!. recently, my husband got a take out order here and i jhave to say the oysters were awesome! just juicy and expertly breaded and fried. we would eat here a lot more if they offered beer...as we like (cold) beer with our seafood. so quite often we go somewhere else so that we can sip a few beers and hang out and eat over a longer period of time. as it is, this is more of a stop-in/quick eat kind of place -- a really really really good drive thru. i just wish the atmosphere and adult drink menu reflected the quality of their food.

a perfect solid. there isn't anything fancy on the menu. nothing is unique or special, unless you've lived around here long enough to know places that serve extremely fresh seafood, simply but expertly prepared, at a very reasonable price and fast -- are indeed "unique and special"!!!

this is where the locals go for casual seafood if we aren't making it at home. (if our fishing trips have been unfruitful.) i've had everything on the menu, just about. it's all good. haven't had a single thing i didn't like, a lot.

some minor quibbles -- i wish the buns they used for the sandwiches could hold up to the moist coleslaw without going to mush after a few bites. maybe offering a po-boy roll for those who like a sturdier bite would be an option, while still appeasing the folks who prefer the standard roll. also, my mother doesn't like theirfriedfish because she likes crunch and is terribly afraid of any food being undercooked. (psst...don't eat the eggs at her house, or the pork chops, or the steak.) thefriedfish here is lightly battered andfriedjust until it's cooked through, tender and lightly crispy. it's difficult to get thicker pieces of fresh fish *crunchy* because it's moist -- and i think it's kind of a crime to cook fresh fish to that point anyway. but, offering a "thin crispy fried" option would really make some older folks happy!! in any case, we eat seafood two places: my house and stewby's.

may 4, 2012. nice clean restaurant with convenient take-out service. food was very good, served hot to order and tasted very fresh-no greasyfriedfood taste. will definitely return on next visit and will recommend to friends. enjoyed the local fresh catch, white snapper fish-of-the-day!

excellent value. would like to see scallops on the menu.

what a great little gem worth hunting to find.. we are not big fans offriedseafood and normally prefer grilled, baked or pan seared, but here we will make an exception. the food here is light and not greasy, cooked to perfection, and seasoned about right. living just an hours drive away, we usually go down to this area 3 or 4 times a year and like to seek out different restaurants. this one is worth the effort. don't go here expecting a sit down waitered meal with the ambiance flowing. this is just what the name implies, a seafood shanty. it is a small place with about 12 picnic style tables to sit at. you place your order at the window, and you pick your food up at the pick up window, if this place was located on the beach, it would have to be three times bigger to accomidate the crowds. even where it is located, it is very busy, and for good reason. this is certainly the bestfriedfood that we have had in the area, and i would say, one of the better seafood restaurants in the area, just don't expect fancy. the prices are very reasonable, unlike most of the places around the beach area. don't miss this place if you are a fan of good food.

we had the grilled shrimp. it was lightly seasoned and had a touch of smoke flavor. the sides werefriedokra, grilled zucchini and cucumber salad. food was cooked to order and served fast and hot. staff was friendly. we will come back.

amazing food. we had a party of 10 and tried pretty much everything. shrimp tacos, amberjack fish,friedoysters, everything was good. the best hushpuppies. will definitely be going back

been 3 times now and i think it's better every time if that's possible. everything i've tried has been delicious! stopped by the drive thru on the way home to pensacola from destin recently to pick up dinner. thefriedshrimp & hush puppies were eaten before we made it out of ft walton! the gumbo is some of the best i have ever had! worth the drive to get amazing seafood!

just like most other reviews; the food was great and the staff is very friendly. keep in mind it's name includes the word 'shanty' and it is. it's a clean well run seafood shanty but you enter, stand in line, place your order, try to find a place to sit. we shared a table with a very nice elderly lady and had a nice conversation with her. she was a local and knew a lot about the history of ft. walton. they call your receipt number over the pa, you pick up and enjoy.
it was fun the food was good. i had thefriedoyster platter, shhh, don't tell my doctor. oh, the sides are really good too. i hadfriedokra and cheese grits. ha! i also had a cup of seafood gumbo that was delicious and healthy, right?
glad we went and if we are in ft. walton again we'll go back.

i've been to stewby's many times! it's my go to seafood place! way better than the big vacation spot seafood places! great prices, too! i've had theirfriedshrimp, grilled shrimp andfriedoysters along with potato salad and okra! this place is by far one of my favorites!

food was amazing! i hadfriedfish withfriedonions and potato salad and my daughter had the grilled jumbo shrimp. i normally avoidfriedfish because greasy batter usually overwhelms the fish, buts this was perfectly done. very friendly service and a great price point are just icing on the cake. if i could give stewby's 6 stars, i would! can't wait to go back and try the fish tacos!

i really liked the shrimp tacos! husband hadfriedfish of the day and he is picky and didn't complain! i'm hoping to try thefriedshrimp before we leave.

great seafood at a great price! local caught gulf coast fish and shrimp! the samich with thefriedfish of the day is my favorite. followed by the smoked fish dip.

spot on reviews. best fresh seafood we've had so far. reasonably priced too. grilled snapper was excellent.friedoysters top notch.

freshest seafood around!. great little place for seafood. so fresh it was swimming this morning and they are taking out of coolers and fileting it right before your eyes! prices are very reasonable. you won't find any pre-made frozen battered seafood here :)

freshest around!!. this was our first visit to stewby's after hearing recommendations. i had thefriedshrimp dinner and my husband ordered the seafood platter (with oysters, shrimp and fish- today's was amberjack). breading on the seafood/fish was light delicious. as we ordered we could see in the clean kitchen as they cook took a fresh fish out of a cooler and then began to filet it for cooking. my husband said "that was probably swimming this morning"! all the staff are friendly and quick serving. a small restaurant so get there early and expect a beachy feel on the porch kind of dining. everything is cooked to order, fresh and delicious!
