stewby's seafood shanty

awesome seafood place.  thefoodis local, quick (especially for how crowded it gets), and very delicious.  the building is small, but unique and has charm.  if you go during peak times know the parking lot fills up and the drive thru line will wrap all the way around the building and out the parking lot.  dealing with the wait and crowds is worth it though.  one of the top places in the area.

ordered for carry out and prepared quite fast. read reviews and must agree with the previous comments, grilled fish and grilled chicken tacos were delicious. flavorful meat combined with good toppings. can not say the same thing about the fried shrimp sandwich. average bun with bland tasting shrimp coupled with cole slaw that just did not mesh well with the shrimp. overall, goodfood(with exception) and would eat here again.

awesome oysters!. recently, my husband got a take out order here and i jhave to say the oysters were awesome! just juicy and expertly breaded and fried. we would eat here a lot more if they offered beer...as we like (cold) beer with our seafood. so quite often we go somewhere else so that we can sip a few beers and hang out and eat over a longer period of time. as it is, this is more of a stop-in/quick eat kind of place -- a really really really good drive thru. i just wish the atmosphere and adult drink menu reflected the quality of their food.

a perfect solid. there isn't anything fancy on the menu. nothing is unique or special, unless you've lived around here long enough to know places that serve extremely fresh seafood, simply but expertly prepared, at a very reasonable price and fast -- are indeed "unique and special"!!!

this is where the locals go for casual seafood if we aren't making it at home. (if our fishing trips have been unfruitful.) i've had everything on the menu, just about. it's all good. haven't had a single thing i didn't like, a lot.

some minor quibbles -- i wish the buns they used for the sandwiches could hold up to the moist coleslaw without going to mush after a few bites. maybe offering a po-boy roll for those who like a sturdier bite would be an option, while still appeasing the folks who prefer the standard roll. also, my mother doesn't like their fried fish because she likes crunch and is terribly afraid of anyfoodbeing undercooked. (psst...don't eat the eggs at her house, or the pork chops, or the steak.) the fried fish here is lightly battered and fried just until it's cooked through, tender and lightly crispy. it's difficult to get thicker pieces of fresh fish *crunchy* because it's moist -- and i think it's kind of a crime to cook fresh fish to that point anyway. but, offering a "thin crispy fried" option would really make some older folks happy!! in any case, we eat seafood two places: my house and stewby's.

what a great little gem worth hunting to find.. we are not big fans of fried seafood and normally prefer grilled, baked or pan seared, but here we will make an exception. thefoodhere is light and not greasy, cooked to perfection, and seasoned about right. living just an hours drive away, we usually go down to this area 3 or 4 times a year and like to seek out different restaurants. this one is worth the effort. don't go here expecting a sit down waitered meal with the ambiance flowing. this is just what the name implies, a seafood shanty. it is a small place with about 12 picnic style tables to sit at. you place your order at the window, and you pick yourfoodup at the pick up window, if this place was located on the beach, it would have to be three times bigger to accomidate the crowds. even where it is located, it is very busy, and for good reason. this is certainly the best friedfoodthat we have had in the area, and i would say, one of the better seafood restaurants in the area, just don't expect fancy. the prices are very reasonable, unlike most of the places around the beach area. don't miss this place if you are a fan of good food.

amazing. thrilled to have this locally owned seafood restaurant just down the road. we have eaten here many times, thefoodis consistenly great, we enjoy the to-go option but like the casual eat on the porch atmosphere as well. very friendly and courteous staff. we consider ourselves regulars for sure.

wow, thank god for urbanspoon and trip advisor or we'd never have known stewby's existed. believe the hype, great food, and although nowhere near waterfront, a great setting. staff is friendly and helpful and thefoodoutstanding. we were dewey destin junkies prior but after our visit to stewby's we'll never go anywhere else.

stewby's the place to eat. we love stewby's. the service is great and everyone is so friendly and helpful. the bathrooms are the cleanest of any restaurant in town. the deck is so great and thefoodis exceptional. you can always count on the fish tasting great and the coleslaw being the best. you won't be sorry if you go to stewby's. oh and prices are great and i'm a tight wod.

awesome!.foodwas very good, probably more of a lunch place than dinner....but very good food! only thing these guys lack is the availability of cold beer! i'd probably never go anywhere else. they only have outside covered seating if that's an issue for anyone....it shouldn't be!

we had the grilled shrimp. it was lightly seasoned and had a touch of smoke flavor. the sides were fried okra, grilled zucchini and cucumber salad.foodwas cooked to order and served fast and hot. staff was friendly. we will come back.

wonderful, been in fort walton a week and easily the bestfoodwe have had. had the fish and shrimp, and if it wasn't fresh caught could have fooled me.

had the grilled amberjack with cole slaw and the seasoned fries. loved the grilled taste in the fish. liked the cole slaw but fries were a little cold. if i have to wait for thefoodthen it should be hot.thats my only negative comment. the wife had grilled shrimp which were also very tasty as well. we will be back.

just like most other reviews; thefoodwas great and the staff is very friendly. keep in mind it's name includes the word 'shanty' and it is. it's a clean well run seafood shanty but you enter, stand in line, place your order, try to find a place to sit. we shared a table with a very nice elderly lady and had a nice conversation with her. she was a local and knew a lot about the history of ft. walton. they call your receipt number over the pa, you pick up and enjoy.
it was fun thefoodwas good. i had the fried oyster platter, shhh, don't tell my doctor. oh, the sides are really good too. i had fried okra and cheese grits. ha! i also had a cup of seafood gumbo that was delicious and healthy, right?
glad we went and if we are in ft. walton again we'll go back.

we went based on the reviews and were not let down. the cup of gumbo i had was very tasty and served piping hot. my wife really liked the shrimp and i enjoyed the platter (fish, shrimp and oysters). thefoodtastes really fresh and we would definitely go back. they will be opening a new location called scooters in navarre soon.
