if i could give this place negative stars i would. have ordered coffee from here before, not bad, not amazing. thought i would try it again only this time capp coffee was $6.09, lukewarm, and 20mm down from the top. servo coffee is better and the service at a servo is better as well. won’t ever waste my money here again and will advise others not to as well. pathetic

diner from sydney. a friend recommended the coffee here. true to his word, it was one of the best coffees i've had in a while. i've had alot of bad coffees lately and so it was easily noticeable the difference. i enjoyed the slight smokey bitter coffee after taste as real coffee should. spent a week in canberra and became a regular visitor to the cafe. the meals were very nice, especially the breakfast. i would recommend the special of the day. i'm sure the chef had put alot of thought into it.

amazing :). after a lot of people in canberra have been speaking about penny university i decided to take a friend for brunch
and try it out considering they have an amazing interesting all day breakfast menu.
at first sight the place looked so cute and welcoming with blankets placed outside on the miss matching chairs brought
a home like feeling to it. once in side there your struck by the interesting urban art painted all of the walls it really is such a nice touch. we were greeted by a lovely young lady who directed us to our table providing poured cold water and modern looking menu. our waiter returned on many occasions as my beautiful friend has a little trouble with great menus.
our meals we served within 10-15 of placing our order and looked absolutely devinely decorated just perfectly unfortunately i didn't snap any photos to show how wonderful the touch was. both our meals were perfect and we both had nothing but praise for this cafe. all on all it was a fantastic experience at penny university and i will be returning to this place time and time again one of the best if not the best cafe in canberra hands together.

good coffee, food ok. living in kingston for 3 months as part of work commitments. the house blend is easy drinking with sweet notes but not much depth as alluded to by a previous reviewer. i have had worse, living in melbourne. am now stuck into aeropressing their light roast nicaraguan single origin, which i quite like. the food is a bit of a let down for me. had a version of the mcpenny, and didn't like the choice or quality of ingredients. expensive for the serving portions, and not redeemed by the flavours. overall good feeling, and certainly capitalising on the hipster scene.

the perfect place to celebrate my last week ever being 20, and the half way mile stone in my degree. an awesome unique menu to satisfy an unruly semester long hunger for something that wasn't pasta.

what a joke! they need to take the roasters part out of their name and stick to being a cafe. coffee was tasteless and weak with no complexity to it. milk was over stretched and was scolding hot. as for breakfast the menu is a rip off for what you get and lacks imagination. there are far better places to go around kingston and manuka but this place is capitalizing on the hipster scene which is a joke in itself. don't go!

banana croissant is a little bit too sweet. salmons are good! matcha latte tastes good, has been changed to oats milk. ice coffee is bitter.

the banana french toast was the amazing. it was caramelised bananas in between croissants. it was definitely a sugar high but so good. we also ordered the savoury pancake with crab and prawns. this had a mango salsa which give it a sweet flavour. the vegetarian poke bowl and the eggs too were good.

overall we enjoyed the food. the only issue was the service a bit slow given it was a busy sunday and we were a big group. cannot wait to try their new menu soon.

3.5/5

this is the second time we’re here, and god it’s a busy place (which usually means good too :)

i remembered it was really good the previous time i went and wanted to show the boyfriend.

drinks came quickly but food took a good 30 minutes. the staff was nice enough to check before we asked about it. the french toast is very good, croissant is drench in syrup but still crunchy. however the 5$ bacon i added is of a tiny portion.
boyfriend’s hash is aromatic, different and quite delicious.

price tag is a bit steep, if we had picked a better time, it might have been an even better experience.

love this place, they never disappoint! thanks penny university for another great start to my day. today’s coffee was constructed just to perfection and the avo brekkie had a hint of chilli to add a bit of spice to my day. loved it!

been here twice so far and am planning another trip this week. the banoffee croissant french toast is to die for! just so, so good. all the servers are also super nice and friendly and you're never waiting long. however, i have to say the chips are very very average for the price and were a bit disappointing (if you're charging $10 for a side of chips they need to not seem store bought!), so i recommend avoiding those. still, i can't wait to go back, and the food overall (with the exception of the chips) is delicious. definitely one of the best brunch places in canberra.
