sadly i didn't get to try their chilli scramble since they just changed their menu. but the black bbq pork burger and the pialligo hash was also nice. while i loved the flavour of the pialligo hash i do find it very salty on its own, i had to order a piece of sourdough to finish my dish. i loved their matcha latte as well. overall a fantastic brunch to kick start my day with. will definitely come back for more delicious dishes.

went here a couple of weeks ago. i honestly think the food here is better than the cupping room. the food i ordered tasted fresh and vibrant. my absolute favorite was the vegan sandwich which i cannot remember the name ( i am convinced i have alzheimer's disease honestly). they made me full and satisfied without feeling gross. unpictured was a piece peanut butter chocolate brownie which was decadent, chewy and gooey. a must visit in canberra

following from my work colleagues recommendation, we came here for lunch as we were having a weekend away in canberra. luckily we didn't have to wait for a table but it was busy with diners sitting outside and in as it was a nice day.

we quickly ordered my sons scrambled eggs and toast first as he was hungry and it came out very fast. while we were waiting for the good we tried the cider (liked the fact it wasn't sweet) and the choc chilli shake.

my husband and i decided to share two dishes. we ordered one from breakfast and one from lunch. the pialliago hash was different from the usual breakfast items but i found it too salty. it needs some bread in the side and luckily my son didn't want his. we both preferred the black bean bbq pork burger which came in a black brioche bun. very tasty which came with a side of crunchy chips.

service from staff was very friendly and their salted caramel and choc tart looked so good but we were too full. maybe on the way back
to sydney?

i visited penny university cafe with a friend for breakfast, which is a little unusual for me (the breakfast, not the friend). the shabby chic decor would appeal to mrs kan do, and it was busy and bustling, as it should be on a saturday morning.
we ordered the hash, which included among other things a fried egg over easy, pork fennel chilli sausage, bacon, potato, kale and tomatoes.
it was a lovely salty, spicy and tasty start to the day. a well made dish that was not too greasy.
the green tea we ordered had a lovely, mild flavour without a bitter after taste. not the best i've had, but pleasant.
as you can see from the photos, we did justice to the food.
still getting used to canberra prices though!

it wasn’t easy to pick just two choices to share for lunch at penny university, but the chilli scrambles $18 and the roasted cauliflower salad $23 were wonderful and  memorable dishes!. the chilli scrambles – eggs with fresh soy beans and shitake  mushrooms  scrambled in tau ban chilli and served with a  shallot pancake and bean sprout salad was spicy and delicious!

today we are visiting penny university in kingston. whenever i enter this place i feel like i am transported into the most hipster of hipster havens. i imagine it is somewhere in fitzroy, melbourne. like all good hipster cafes the decor is eclectic and fun, the coffee is amazing and the food is seriously over-complicated but also delicious. this is the home of quinoa, kimchi, matcha and even the grain of the moment, freekah. i do appreciate a lunch venue which serves food i would never attempt to do at home. i feel like i am getting value for money. let’s talk drinks first.

love penny university for breakfast or lunch with seating outside and ample space inside with a moody vibe.

i've tried the breakfast hot dog is messy but delicious. the avo on toast and slow cooked egg are also delish. the fruit breakfast pudding is beautiful and fresh. the coffee is nice and the juice featured at the time was great. my favourite lunch dish is the duck pad thai (quack thai) . the meals are filling if a little pricey but you get what you pay for.

the only thing i can't recommend are the baked goods on the counter. several attempts have left me with dry and tasteless muffins despite their enticing appearance

delicious breakfast. had the avo dish, which had a good serving of avocado, crunchy toast and a really tasty salsa made of quinoa, corn, tomato and cucumber. really fresh and well seasoned with chilli and lemon. good serving size. added bacon, which was cooked crispy and really good. food is presented really well - the french toast is particularly photo-worthy. decor is really cool with a vintage look of internal brick wall and cool styling. comfy feel. staff were all really friendly and service was quick at peak time on a sunday. quite loud inside, but the courtyard looked really cute and comfy too. coffee was good, not amazing, but good enough. i like my coffee a bit stronger and hotter.

my wife and i have had brunch at penny's on numerous occasions, there's no need to book but it can get very busy. they manage to fit a lot of people in their narrow cafe, maybe to many people... you will get quite familiar with the person sitting next to you when your butt is on their table whilst you struggle to get in and out. that's where the negativity stops and the glory starts. the coffee and the food are incredible, there's always something different on the menu that you wouldn't have tried and it's always cooked to perfection. the staff are friendly and very quick to take your order and the food comes out relatively quickly. if you're looking for different food and a good coffee, this may well be your place.

service was really friendly in a busy sunday morning. i ordered the chef's special of black rice porridge with salted coconut milk and roasted mango. it was very thai and really yummy and filling. the boyfriend ordered the other porridge with pudding and passion fruit. he liked it too but preferred my order when he tasted it. the coffee was really good too. would definitely dine again when i'm back in canberra, highly recommended!

finally got around to penny university on one of my recent visits to canberra. this is a copybook definition of a great cafe - warm, cosy, attentive staff, super service, great brekkies and most importantly.. fabulous coffee.
i tried the zaataar eggs, a wonderful concoction of soft bolied eggs with zaataar, on a bed of sun dried tomatoes, chopped aubergine, roasted chickpeas, deep fried kale and some labneh.. there is also a small slice of turkish bread in the midst. on the whole, it was fantastic.
i also tried a latte, my standard of gauging how good a coffee is in any cafe. it was great, coffee freshly roasted with creamy milk.
overall, a great experience.. will certainly be back!!

dropped in here when we found me and mrs jones closed for renovations.  very busy on an early sunday morning on the way to the snow.  excellent service and the food was fabulous for adults particularly the avo dish with quinoa.  not much on the menu for children, however they did accommodate with with some sour dough toast.  coffee was excellent and overall it was a great buzzy enviroment.
