amazing :). after a lot of people in canberra have been speaking about penny university i decided to take a friend for brunch
and try it out considering they have an amazing interesting all day breakfast menu.
at first sight the place looked so cute and welcoming with blankets placed outside on the miss matching chairs brought
a home like feeling to it. once in side there your struck by the interesting urban art painted all of the walls it really is such a nice touch. we were greeted by a lovely young lady who directed us to our table providing poured cold water and modern looking menu. our waiter returned on many occasions as my beautiful friend has a little trouble withgreatmenus.
our meals we served within 10-15 of placing our order and looked absolutely devinely decorated just perfectly unfortunately i didn't snap any photos to show how wonderful the touch was. both our meals were perfect and we both had nothing but praise for this cafe. all on all it was a fantastic experience at penny university and i will be returning to this place time and time again one of the best if not the best cafe in canberra hands together.

love this place, they never disappoint! thanks penny university for anothergreatstart to my day. today’s coffee was constructed just to perfection and the avo brekkie had a hint of chilli to add a bit of spice to my day. loved it!

we had breakfast here on easter sunday. i liked the vibe and the open kitchen.

i had the the p.u. breaky dog and my husband had the pialligo hash. we found the food to be okay, we were definitely expecting more given thegreatreviews we've read.

find me better coffee and a better breakfast in canberra; i bet you can't!

penny university wins it by a margin when it comes togreatcoffee and even better food. located amongst several cafés in kingston, penny university easily grabs attention due to its sheer popularity. i have never driven by/ walked past this place and not seen a long queue of people waiting to be seated.

i remember going there first time with a group of 23 people and remember loving everything about this place! almost everything on the menu was on our table and not one person was disappointed with their food.

i am a huge fan and a regular customer of this cafe and would recommend trying out the various dishes on the menu.

the order
- 2 coffees, salmon burger, eggs and toast

the good
-greatcoffee!
- the chips that came with the burger were good
- the slaw on the burger was spot on too

the bad
- the confit salmon was very fishy and had a funky smell
- the avocado on the burger was off - that horrible sour taste that only brown avo can give.
- there were a bunch of other pickle elements on the burger which just didn't work - like the pickle ginger (yes the same one you put on your sushi...). i understand what they're going for with the jap theme, but it doesn't work.
- the mushroom side with the eggs were bland and boring, with hardly any taste of "truffle"

the ugly
- the service! there were many waiters walking around but none bar one was taking orders. as she was the only one, it took a long time to get served

the opportunity
- turn the salmon burger into a home made crumbed salmon cake burger, keep the slaw, but turn the pickle element into a creamy tartar, and get rid of the avo spread (and keep the chips of course). in the end it's a just a burger - keep it simple.
- instead of steamed mushrooms, try frying them in truffle butter with crispy tips tossed in the end through a fresh herb.

the rec
- i'd recommend your chefs or who ever is in charge of designing the menu seek some inspiration from some reallygreatbreakfast spots like the cupping room, pialligo estate and greenhouse coffee.

finally got around to penny university on one of my recent visits to canberra. this is a copybook definition of agreatcafe - warm, cosy, attentive staff, super service, greatbrekkies and most importantly.. fabulous coffee.
i tried the zaataar eggs, a wonderful concoction of soft bolied eggs with zaataar, on a bed of sun dried tomatoes, chopped aubergine, roasted chickpeas, deep fried kale and some labneh.. there is also a small slice of turkish bread in the midst. on the whole, it was fantastic.
i also tried a latte, my standard of gauging how good a coffee is in any cafe. it was great, coffee freshly roasted with creamy milk.
overall, agreatexperience.. will certainly be back!!

dropped in here when we found me and mrs jones closed for renovations.  very busy on an early sunday morning on the way to the snow.  excellent service and the food was fabulous for adults particularly the avo dish with quinoa.  not much on the menu for children, however they did accommodate with with some sour dough toast.  coffee was excellent and overall it was agreatbuzzy enviroment.

penny university really knows how to do breakfast. we stopped by on a busy morning and ordered the breakfast dog and the eggs with avocado and quinoa. we had to sit outside because of how popular it was, but there's heaters for the chillier months and the service was quick so it didn't bother us. as for the food, the breakfast dog is a great, satisfying breakfast pick, and one you can also order to go. the egg, avocado and quinoa were pretty standard, but still fine. they dogreatcoffee too which is a bonus.
