art is in bakery

best sunday brunch in ottawa. i say brunch, but it's reallybreakfastbecause you have to get there early--as soon as they open--to guarantee yourself a good seat and to ensure they don't run out of the favourite dishes.

for me, the bestbreakfastitem is the eggs benny with the fennel sausage. savoury and filling, and always expertly prepared.

artisin is a bit pricey for breakfast, but worth every penny.

this place is amazing, not only as a bakery but as a bistro. my family went in for a sunday brunch and everybody shared. the eggs benny were perfectly prepared; the homefries, amazing. the pancakes were the best that any of us have tasted in a restaurant. highly recommended.

delicious. i'm a regular at art is in bakery, having discovered it about 7 months ago. i notice that other reviewers say it was better before the renovation and i can't comment on that -- however, i can't imagine it being better. less expensive, sure, but better? because the food is scrumptious!

so the real question at hand is whether you are getting value for your dollar. sandwiches run for $10 and over. and these sandwiches are big and filling. i've tried a number of sandwiches on the menu and i have loved each and every one. the pulled pork sandwich was really wonderful and i appreciated that an employee approached me half-way through to ensure i was enjoying it. the tuna melt is a delight and has so much tuna on it that i routinely share it with someone. the vegetarian sandwich (which i haven't seen on the menu recently) was my favourite and i loved how much avocado they put on it. i've also had theirbreakfastsandwich and it was fabulous as well. frankly, i don't think anybody does a sandwich better than art is in and it's probably because a good bread can make or break a sandwich. and art is in makes their own, wonderful breads.

so ... $10 or more for a sandwich? i would argue that a 12-inch subway sandwich will run you almost that price, and this if far above a subway sandwich.

oh, but back to bread....!!! i've tried various types of breads and it is very difficult to pick a favourite because they are all so good. if pressed, i would pick the wild yeast sourdough. my daughter loves the buttermilk bread.

the pastries are wonderful. the chocolate croissant is so flaky and soft; you can tell it was just baked. the cookies are soft and sweet. and we always bring home some cheddar and chive scones!!

the industrial vibe of this place is funky and fun. it can get noisy but that's part of the fun.

not impressed. we used to rave about this place for service and food. arrived today @ 11:06am to order 3breakfastsandwiches to go. were told we were too late as they don't serve them after 11am. technically yes it was after 11am. but when we turned to leave to find another place to take out, there was no desire to offer another option or even check if it was possible to squeeze in a few more sandwiches. if you are going retail, then customer service should be first priority.

really good! everything i have tried there from thebreakfastsandwich to the pastries has been really good. only down side is trying to get a table there on the weekend. very stressful experience! people are practically fighting for tables. there is no system for getting a seat. people will come after you looking for a seat and take it before you have a chance. it's kind of like tryig to find a parking spot at costco on a saturday. once you finish eating expect to leave immediately or you will be getting dirty looks from the people waiting to sit. everyone pretty much stands around and watches you eat and they are standing next to your table waiting for you to get up. it was so awkward! they brought our food over before we had a seat so they took it back. we finally got a seat and they forgot about us. bonus was that they gave us a few free pastries for the trouble (which were delicious btw). i will be coming back but i will not stay to eat. :)

amazing food, great service. was there this weekend, they forgot one of ourbreakfastsandwiches (ordered two of the same sandwich) but were really nice about getting us another one, free of charge.
we ended up having thebreakfastsandwiches which were amazing, and then going back to the counter for pastries. i had a raspberry berliner that was to die for.
will definitely be back soon.

sooooo goooood!. weekend lunch orbreakfastis amazing, i havent had a sandwich i didn't like. also a great spot to pick up some fancy-bread on your way to a party, or if hosting, or if you just want to carb-out pig-out by yourself with a loaf of delicious bread. (shhh).

art is in my belly!. what is there possibly left to say about art is in bakery? if you haven't been yet just follow the hollandaise road! everything they make is nothing short of a masterpiece. breakfast, brunch, lunch, dessert - chevre which way you go its beyond satisfying.

space is an important concept in art, so make sure you have plenty in your belly before coming here! i have had the buttermilk brined chicken caesar, prosciutto, chicken curry, veggie guacamole melt sandwiches,breakfastcroissanwich and countless desserts and breads. everything they create is nothing short of lip smacking, omg why did i wait so long to return, mouthwatering, pure, unadulterated deliciousness. bring a loaf of bread home with you, its the yeast you could do for the withdrawals sure to come tomorrow.

cumin through the rye, this place took the ottawa foodie scene to a whole other level... as well as the food porn industry. if you are a fan of art is in bakery on facebook, you are willingly entering a friendship built on masochism. its absolute torture to see their daily creations displayed in your news feed, just calling to you and you cant help but jump up, throw over your desk chair sprinting down to city center salivating.

for the love of food, just go!

amazing! best sandwich is the buttermilk brined chicken caesar. so good! and the chocolate tarts, lemon tarts, and fennel bread treats are delicious. wasn't a fan of the homemade iced tea, and the one time i triedbreakfastthe sausage on the eggs benedict was very weird and not tasty. but the lunch was delicious!

can't get enough. i'm a bread lover and this place is my heaven! the sandwiches are great too, but make sure you arrive for an early lunch. they are always sold out of a few varieties by noon.

had a delishbreakfastcroissant with bacon egg and cheese- i was surprised at how yummy it was. also picked up a loaf of bread which i ate for supper with some cheese... mmm mmm it's been a lucky day for my taste buds!

delish!. excellent food, excellent variety!
only complaint is the store hours are not on the website, and when you call, the message on the machine tells you to call back during business hours. it doesn't give you the hours though! some of us wanted to meet there for 11am breaky on sunday. they open at 10am on sunday, but only servebreakfastuntil 11! mentioned it to the girl serving us - she told us to check facebook. it's not there either - just as a check-in site : /
great place to stop by to pick up bread, safe to say go around noon - it's open then.
