“this burger was on the very verge of greatness for me, with the large, perfectly cooked wagyu beef pattie being the absolute highlight. unfortunately the other ingredients were a little too strong and instead of enhancing the beef flavour, slowly overpowered it. from the buttery, flaky texture of the croissant-like bun and the sweetness of the beetroot relish and caramelised onions...."

hope you like dill & rosewater :). i'm loving the frequent use of fresh dill & rosewater (not in the same dish or drink.. so far), as it's a departure from what i cook at home..

sometimes miss the standard meat/potato/veg combination here, but realllly enjoyed duck with.. trying to remember... cracked wheat? a while back.. lots of chopped dill & i think parsley made up for lack of veg..

..anyway, there are always several "bar snacks" $10 each, including chips with sour cream (& more chopped dill + spring onion) and a side dish of silverbeet in lightly creamy & cheesy sauce in a ramekin which i had today.

also had chicken & chorizo spring rolls ($10). good.

as for rosewater - i normally just have red wine, but i love their sparkling wine cocktails with rosewater & rose petals, sometimes with elderflower syrup/liquer, & today with hibiscus & bitters.. very girly!

best thing about the post office hotel for me is having food & cocktails i'm unlikely to have had at home! element of surprise!

they have live music on sunday afternoons, 4.30ish. no cover charge. loved bob log 111 there a while ago.. here's another surprise - look him up 0.o

the food here is nice but way over priced, i think that a good pub meal should be between 15-20 not 25-35 we are in coburg not toorak... knock the prices down and this place would be great. lamb backstrap was ok but not worth $25 my friends had the parma and said it was ok but the plates are an awkward size, not enough room on the plate and salad over powered by onion and chives. def room for improvement.

great atmosphere. went here for fathers day lunch, we all had the roast lamb and all loved it, the flavours were amazing and the service great.
my only complaint is that some chips on the side would have been nice.
def going back for another meal very soon.

venue 5 stars
food 5 starts
service does not exist (no stars)
probably the worse service i've had at an establishment in melbourne. the girls that were on had zero care or training, not sure which. it wasn't busy and we recieved little to no service. food was amazing though.

the pub use to be a place of solitude for men to drink and chat about the agony of life. this public house was welcome to all, but because of its charm (or shall we say, lack off) it became the perfect man cave. it was a mystical place where wives rarely stepped inside and men of all type drank beer and bonded. there was a sense of community with only two beers on tap. these days, the majority of pubs have transform from less grunge to more chic. the gastropub is not only equipped with an impressive kitchen team, but also carefully considered decor, layout and furniture to bring a modern and dazzling experience to its patrons. the post office hotel is one such pub that is making its mark in coburg. we decided to bring a few friends to try their express lunch.

my husband and friends took me to the post office hotel for a surprise birthday dinner. i had been to the pub a few times but this was the first time in the restaurant. we had the mullet cigars and the scallop ravioli followed by the goat, the bisteeya and the chargrilled chicken. it was all just divine. the chicken was moist and flavoured with lots of spices and i think i could eat the rabbit bisteeya with feta cream everyday. everyone loved the goat and the atmosphere and service were great. overall a wonderful night. will definately be back.

we walked into the post office hotel dining hall and were surprised it was so busy. hoping to get a table for 2, we were offered a table in the courtyard at the back of the dining hall. we were very impressed by the place as a whole and the courtyard was no less impressive and comfortable with a huge outdoor heater overhead and a great ambiance!! we ordered pizza for to share as it looked as though it was the most popular item that diners were ordering. we're glad that we did! best pizza in ages!

i was really surprised by the post office. they have two completely separate sections, one for the pub and the other for the restaurant. please note that both venues are quite noisy.

i ordered the steak and i was really happy with it! it was a large serving and absolutely delicious. two of my other friends also had steak and they agreed it was wonderful. we were just unhappy it was served with bok choy. i really liked the potatoes though. the pizza is also huge and we were impressed that it was served with a pizza cutter. how come not more places can do this????

the vegetarian burgers were apparently very tasteless. our friend had to wait 30 minutes for her drink. fortunately the staff gave us a free round of drinks because of these issues! thank you so much. it is rare for a venue to do something about these issues.

we had a lovely time. after dinner we went next door to listen to some bands. lots of fun indeed and a very unexpected place for bands to perform! can highly recommend this place.

never again. yuck, yuck and yuck. what a shocker. we waited 1.5 hrs for our meals. when they finally arrived they were terrible. bony dry chicken, tiny lamb portion and cinnamon on the rabbit pie??? very pretentious menu, trying to be trendy but is just awful instead. they should concentrate on better customer service, better flavours and better quality. worst meal ever. never again.

was excited to try this place, as my wife and i had seen a beautiful little pub through the window. when the reno was complete, the disappoint began the moment we walked in - after walking around the street trying to find the entrance.

the food was really not good. the burger had bacon (extra 2$) that was nearly ice cold. the gnocchi was quite bland and over salted. i don’t see the potential here, hence the review. the staff looked like they were working in a place they didn’t belong and didn’t sign up for. the poh feels like it’s trying to be something it’s not.

we went with the intention of getting a good warm pub meal along with the pub setting however it seemed alot fancier than expected. the food was good but there was a weird ambiance to the place. not sure if it was just that night.
