the post office hotel

the post office is a nice chill pub in the heart of coburg. love to go there every now and then for a few drinks with mates.. the place has its own pretty little beer garden too and if you are hungry the barfooddoesn’t disappoint either.

fabulous service and food!. just ate here for mother's day lunch and the place was heaving with adults and lots of boisterous little kids the staff were unflappable, friendly and efficient thefoodwas delicious we had pizza, parmas, the coburger and a kids chicken and chips can highly recommend this place to anyone especially if you have kids!

it was busy night for them, however we were 6 people at the table. i ordered myfoodfirst and i said orders can come in order, not at a same time. i ordered parma with no chips. all my friends ordered after me and they all received theirfoodin 20 minutes. i asked where myfoodis 3 times. it finally came after 1 hour. the salad with my parma, 10cm long and wide lettuce with no tomato and cucumber and no taste dressing, large onion rings which culd not fit on my fork or mouth. i am aso a chef i make chicken dish with avocado dip, pita bread, chips and perfectly made salad and im charging it $19 and i paid $26 for my disgusting meal and wating for 1 hour.

expensive for a pub in this area. thefoodis generally very tasty focusing more on the quality than quantity. can try too hard to be fancy. cous cous salad with a parma just isn't right! very poor cut of beef on mothers day and was left quite disappointed.

bit pricey and over the top. being a local i'd heard a fair bit about it so took the girlf for a nice dinner. there was a big party in sofoodtook a while and 3 mains were off as a result. we both went for the steak, nicely cooked and tasty with lovely accompaniments. it did take an hour to arrive. with regards to wine, for a bottle be prepared to fork out a minimum of $40 for a bottle & $50+ for anything half decent. for me this is too much for a gastro pub and i was disappointed to have a bill of $100 for two mains and a bottle of red....

we were a group of four on a friday evening, seven pm. when we arrived the staff were really nice and attentive. we were served well for drinks and ourfoodorders. thefoodwas pretty disappointing. the club sandwich (what do you think of when you hear club sandwich) was a few ingredients between two slices of toast. no layers, not even cut in half. just a square, falling apart, toast with layers. the daily special was trout, no flavour at all. we had to ask 4 times for our plates to be cleared. by 8 pm they were severely understaffed. there were people all over the room trying to get a waiter for service. the staff weren’t bad, there just weren’t enough of them. in that huge room on a friday night i think there were four or five staff. we went out the back to get an after dinner drink. we couldn’t get anyone to serve us at the bar. they have a bar out the back that’s not open at all, even though there’s a full beer garden. i went to the toilet, and there was no toilet paper in any of the toilets. it was only 9pm on a friday night and they were out paper! there wasn’t even a stash you could get for yourself. we used to go regularly to the post office years ago when it first opened. i don’t know how they’ve let it go like this, but we’ll never be back. it’s just not good enough, and there’s so many better options. it’s not hard people! service and toilet paper!

boo. the service here was great but unfortunately thefoodwas actually quite disappointing.. i had the lamb shoulder which i really didn't like.. i could tell the ingredients were of good quality but the dish wasn't nice.. i'll probably try again at some stage and maybe try a different dish..

i'll be back..... we had a booking for 10 of us. what a great night!  we had the banquet pre-ordered which included the goat. food,foodand more food!!! it was scrumptious. the staff were on-the-ball. the drinks flowed (including table water) where some places you need to keep asking for.   i've since returned with my boys for a quiet night and once again excellentfoodand service.

we will be returning!. just visited the the post office hotel (the new part next door) with my husband and 2 yr old. thefoodwas top notch, service fantastic and the ambience - awesome.

we split a pulled pork sandwich and a wagyu burger followed by some very creative desserts (and coffee).

absolutely superb/ reasonable prices.

full of middle age parents with very young kids and toddlers. high chair was supplied and nothing was too much to accommodate our miss.

highly recommend. an excellent addition to coburg.

hope you like dill & rosewater :). i'm loving the frequent use of fresh dill & rosewater (not in the same dish or drink.. so far), as it's a departure from what i cook at home..

sometimes miss the standard meat/potato/veg combination here, but realllly enjoyed duck with.. trying to remember... cracked wheat? a while back.. lots of chopped dill & i think parsley made up for lack of veg..

..anyway, there are always several "bar snacks" $10 each, including chips with sour cream (& more chopped dill + spring onion) and a side dish of silverbeet in lightly creamy & cheesy sauce in a ramekin which i had today.

also had chicken & chorizo spring rolls ($10). good.

as for rosewater - i normally just have red wine, but i love their sparkling wine cocktails with rosewater & rose petals, sometimes with elderflower syrup/liquer, & today with hibiscus & bitters.. very girly!

best thing about the post office hotel for me is havingfood& cocktails i'm unlikely to have had at home! element of surprise!

they have live music on sunday afternoons, 4.30ish. no cover charge. loved bob log 111 there a while ago.. here's another surprise - look him up 0.o

thefoodhere is nice but way over priced, i think that a good pub meal should be between 15-20 not 25-35 we are in coburg not toorak... knock the prices down and this place would be great. lamb backstrap was ok but not worth $25 my friends had the parma and said it was ok but the plates are an awkward size, not enough room on the plate and salad over powered by onion and chives. def room for improvement.

great atmosphere. went here for fathers day lunch, we all had the roast lamb and all loved it, the flavours were amazing and the service great.
my only complaint is that some chips on the side would have been nice.
def going back for another meal very soon.

probably the worse service i've had at an establishment in melbourne. the girls that were on had zero care or training, not sure which. it wasn't busy and we recieved little to no service.foodwas amazing though.

was excited to try this place, as my wife and i had seen a beautiful little pub through the window. when the reno was complete, the disappoint began the moment we walked in - after walking around the street trying to find the entrance.

thefoodwas really not good. the burger had bacon (extra 2$) that was nearly ice cold. the gnocchi was quite bland and over salted. i don’t see the potential here, hence the review. the staff looked like they were working in a place they didn’t belong and didn’t sign up for. the poh feels like it’s trying to be something it’s not.

we went with the intention of getting a good warm pub meal along with the pub setting however it seemed alot fancier than expected. thefoodwas good but there was a weird ambiance to the place. not sure if it was just that night.

we used to take visitors to this pub for the fantastic food. last night we had a table of 12 for a birthday dinner..........thefoodhere now is disgusting. fish and chips. the chips were ok, the fish was undercooked and totally tasteless. could not eat it. the chicken parma......dry with no flavour nor any sign of a sauce.
hamburgers including double decker hamburger, the actual burger meat was mushy and tasteless. our whole table agreed that it was a ‘dinner disaster’. no pepper or salt on the table.
staff do not look like they enjoy being there.
never ever going back and we are all locals.
