don't know how they stay in business. overpriced, limited hours, answering machine instead of picking up the phone.
they gave us the wrong birthday cakes ($75 worth) last friday. by the time we got home they were closed. i went in to speak with them about it and the owner was rude and didn’t care. very amateurish operation even by fyshwick standards.

not having eftpos facilities is a joke.. i would be interested to know why eftpos is not available at flute.

just because you have a good product, doesn't mean you have to be rude.. i can't stress enough how disgraceful the behaviour of the service staff is. they made me feel like they were doing me a favour by allowing me to buy their product. where does this attitude come from? management? they've done their dash with me.

having a great product only gets you half-way there to having a good reputation around town. customer service is vital. please change, flute.

when my best friend decided she was going to surprise her husband with goldfish for his birthday, she and i set out at lunchtime to pick up the fish, so they could be waiting for him when he got home from work. yes, she’s a mastermind (that’s why she’s my best friend). anyway, this plot took us very close to the elusive flute (only open on weekdays), so we couldn’t resist the chance to pop in. i picked a cake i haven’t seen there before – apple strudel cake. um, yes. the ‘apple’ was a dome of vanilla mousse/cream, glazed in apple-flavoured sweetness, sitting atop a cake that had all of the beautiful apple strudel flavours i feel in love with in austria. the top was decorated with a spiced crumble, which was

rude staff and management. bad experience after telling the manager there was a piece of plastic in the pie. was told to leave and the pie was snatched away. no apology given nor a refund. on a separate note the coffee was bitter and burnt tasting. they boast the best pastries but i beg to differ the bottom of my pastry was black as if they don't clean their equipment. definitely a waste of time and money. would not be going back here again and would tell anyone to go here. shame on flute bakery absolutely disappointing.

don't waste your money here. rude attitude and management.. cakes are overpriced and the managemt and staff are extremely rude. definitely not a "family friendly" or "child friendly" place. there are plenty of other quality bakeries around town that hands down have better food and service.
if you want to be treated rudely then flute is the place to go! don't waste your money here.

after hearing so much about this bakery finally got my husband to get me a takeaway. we had the chocolate one and the orange one. the orange which had a sponge had really lovely delicate flavours as for the chocolate it had a cheesecake centre. both were really beautiful.

every time i went back to canberra i had to go back to flute bakery for their delicious sausage roll and quiche.

they only open monday to friday, from 8:00-15ish. even it was early morning, ppl started coming through the door and buying freshly baked bread, pies, pastries and quiches for breakfast or just to take home to share.

coffee there was just ok. but a nice pot of hot tea would be nice to company your breakfast. the cake looked nice, tasted nice, but not impressive.

among all the products, i personally loved their quiche the most! filled with plenty of ham, cheese and onion, wrapped in a beautiful and flaky pastry shell, it just tasted amazing! the pie was nice but i preferred the sausage roll. we finished our breakfast with a cheesecake brioche, with airy & fluffy dough, sweet/sour custard &cream filling. sinful but delight!

recommend to everyone who is looking for nice bakery for fresh baked good/ pastries and decent pie, sausage roll and quiche. you must visit the flute bakery when you are in town.

the best place in canberra to get a gourmet cake, i would not go anywhere else for a cake that you want people to love. i would definitely recommend getting your next birthday cake here if you havents had one from the flute before.

pies were okay. nothing amazing. coffee was good for what i've come to expect from this area, but i've definitely had better in other states. that sounds snobby, but i'm being as objective as anyone could be.

perhaps i didn't try the right dishes, or come on a good day, but quite sure why this place is rating so highly currently.

been ordering birthday cake for my hubby, my brother and myself from here for 7 years consecutively (and don't plan to stop) coz it's just that amazing! nothing in canberra can compare to flute's cake. the others may be better looking but taste wise, flute is always no. 1.

i proudly brought a few non canberrans friends here as well for morning tea coz again it's just that good.

i love you flute!

ps: please have eftpos machine and start open on weekends...

just divine. a culinary heaven one must experience in person. each cake is a work of art almost too good to eat; a layered decadence worth every calorie!

the flute seems extremely out of place in the industrial locale of fyshwick, it's a sophisticated and refined bakery that tempts you from the moment you enter through its front-doors. the selection of cakes at the flute is fantastic and each piece is presented perfectly. definitely worth a visit, my recommendation is the strawberry tart, the fruit is perfect, the filling is rich and creamy and the base pastry is buttery, fresh and flavourful.
