the homemade pop tarts in the window of ted's bulletin. ted's bulletin is a new creation from the masterminds behind matchbox . located on 8th st. in the barracks row neighborhood, ted's gets its name from the owners' father and is themed to the hilt. it feels like disney imagineers had a hand in the design. it is border-line cheesy--totally over the top--but i loved the newspaper menus, old movies playing in black and white, and restrooms fashioned after streetcar station offices. b and i made our way to

the wait for a table at ted's bulletin was nearly hour, and all i wanted on that rainy, hung-over sunday morning was some comfort food. so we waited. and stared at the milkshake machine and the homemade frosted pop tarts behind the retro counter. what is this place? have i stepped into a 1940s diner? why is everyone so happy ? i nipped to the restroom to clear my head and nearly ran into a woman who was smiling and gazing at all the old black-and-white photos on the walls of the hallway. "that's my dad the

yum!. really great food and breakfast served any time! i originally went here to pick up dessert that was in their front bar area. grabbed a pumpkin scone and oatmeal cookie which were both great. decided i'd go to dinner - split the beef brisket and the southwest burger. both really good - their o-rings are great too. for dessert this time, i tried one of the adult milkshakes. i believe it was the carmel macchiato? that was really great too. the service was friendly and really catered to the needs at the table. however, by the end of the night, the waiter was a little aloof, probably because he was ready to close out or was distracted by his friends that had come to visit at the bar out front.

they serve breakfast all day. #win. they serve enough flavors of milkshakes that you won’t get bored with them. #win. last but not least, they serve a sammy that i cannot seem to shake. #win. enough about what i think, below is the impromptu review i received from a foodie and loyal reader:

extra! extra! get drunk from a milkshake!!. yes, alcoholic milkshakes. it sounds like something from a college party, but they're the best alcoholic drinks in the joint. we had a "nutty professor" a vanilla, bailey's and frangelico combo. yummy yummy with enough kick to let you know it's not for the kiddies. they do have n/a shakes for real kiddies if that's more your style. the standard cocktails unfortunately don't have the same flair as the shakes. i had a "red jacket" and it was a sweet drink, but it was clumsily over-poured like when you bribe the bartender at the pahtay club. fortunately the sickly-sweet vodka tones were quickly overwhelmed by the food. i got a chicken fried steak that was perfectly savory, greasy and peppery. the two sides, charred brussels sprouts and homemade apple sauce were both unique and equally tasty. my companion got a turkey burger that made me overlook that it wasn't beef and it came with some of the best hand cut fries i've had. finally the restaurant has this awesome depression-era feel to it with recovered marble features from the philadelphia civic center. definitely going back, instant new favorite!

had my first taste last night and wasn't let down. ted's follows the rest of the new eatablishments on 8th se and h ne in providing a fun theme and good food. i had my eye on the mearloaf as aoon as i saw the menu (sided with beets and mac & cheese). tasty as expected, thoigh the sauce was a little over powering. service was appropriately available and knowledgable. i didn't partake in the adult milkshakes but they looked lile fun on a warm summer evening. i will be returning to this venue.

great!. this is such a cool place. the food is very good, and their pastries looked delicious. service was great, and the decor was very cool. they were playing "the wizard of oz" during our meal, which was a plus. great for breakfast, lunch or dinner. reasonable prices.
