news! news! we love ted's!. wow. just wow. from the miraculous interior salvaged from a philadelphia civic center, to the great diner-ware, to the fabulously friendly service, ted's bulletin seduced us in short order. pancakes were good (if a little chewy--don't overwork the batter, ok?), the sausage was amazing (sweet, then really spicy, then mmmmmm), and the hashbrowns shockingly crunchy and creamy at the same time. wondrous.

the only complaint: the biscuits and the homemade poptarts were bone dry, stealing most of the anticipated enjoyment from them. i know the biscuits went with the sausage gravy (nice!) but they were dry like the sahara and about as absorbant as linoleum. it was ok but with a serving of 4 biscuits--oooof--it was too much dryness. same with the poptarts: crumbly, not flaky; granular, not pastry-like.

small, tiny, minor issues: this place knows exactly who it is and its clientele. we plan on coming back!

food is good. most people give horror stories about the service at ted's. i suggest sitting at the counter and save yourself a bad, on the spot, twitter review. every time i go to ted's i sit at the counter and the service couldn't be better.
the food is a great twist on diner food and they have perfected it.
yes, the milk shakes have a bit of alcohol in them but (as some have suggested) if you're getting drunk on them you seriously need to:
1. get out more often
2. not drink 6 milk shakes in one visit

the pop tarts are delish. can't go wrong with the grilled cheese.

as i mentioned earlier, i was intent on having a homemade pop-tart. at $2.99, that is quite a tack onto your bill, but if you’ve never had one, you must. plain and simple. once you have one, you will never ever buy a store-bought one again. the pop-tart crust was some of the best pastry i’ve ever had in a restaurant. i've also heard so much of their milkshakes (also available with adult ingredients) and when asked if i'd like one, i had to decline. the spirit was willing, but the belly was full and splitting. maybe next time.

one of the newest restaurants to open up along barracks row, ted's bulletin is an american diner style joint owned by those of the nearby matchbox and serves classics such as burgers, fish and chips, milkshakes, and pies as well as breakfast staples all day.

there are some places you go to because the food is good and others that you tolerate because you like the atmosphere of the place. at ted's bulletin , i'm happy to report that you can get good food in an irresistibly adorable olde timey atmosphere. ted's is the comfort food purveying cousin to matchbox and dc-3 , and everything about the place screams old fashioned comfort, including the baker making fresh "pop tarts" in the front window... and the fixtures reclaimed from the old philadelphia civic center. it's undeniably adorable and unlike any place we've been in dc. with this much atmosphere, it wouldn't be a surprise if the food didn't measure up. however, we found ted's menu of comfort food classics (and a few original twists) to be worthy of a return visit. i could drink an unsafe amount of their "adult" milkshakes spiked with alcohol. indulge in a boozy grasshopper (mint) shake or a creamy white russian. if you don't wish to imbibe, ted's serves non-alcoholic classic shakes too

not bad. not good.. there's no "eh" option on urbanspoon, which is too bad. i liked the ambiance of this place, but everything else was really only moderate. i ordered the meatloaf and got a pretty good version. it was too heavy on ketchup, though, as every slice was coated on the cross-section and then broiled to give it a little crust. my fries were average, but the serving was tiny. the bacon and blue brussels were tasty, but i only got about 4. i gave ted's a thumbs down because, while it wasn't bad, i have no need to go back. ever.

... i eagerly took a bite and it was dull, dry, and not even up to par with its mass-produced namesake.

curse you, ted. you’ve turned the normal order of things upside down with your diner-like offer of “breakfast any time.”

these aren't your grandmother's brussel sprouts!. get the brussel sprouts, you won't be dissapointed. they aren't mushy, overcooked, or bitter. what they are is roasted, firm, and delicate. the hamburger was good, too.
