undercooked doughnut. i bought a few things for the office. just started into the doughnut i bought this morning from the new ted's bulletin on 14th street. doughy, undercooked doughnut. also someone cut a piece of the peanut butter bacon poptart and it had no filling. they had to keep cutting until they got the peanut butter. gotta keep the quality up ted's. it's not looking good so far.

the second outpost of ted’s bulletin is opening on monday, august 19th on 14th street nw. it’s a great addition to the neighborhood as it will be one of the few places serving breakfast during the week, in addition to lunch, dinner, and late-night drinks. the team opened the doors to the media last tonight to check out the new space, and to sample some of the delicious treats. blueberry cheesecake pop-tarts… are you drooling yet? additionally, the new ted’s will have a bakery that will feature donuts, cookies, and other pastries that can be taken to-go. a perfect place to pick up an impressive dessert for your dinner party without having to be stuck in the kitchen baking all day. in addition, the new restaurant is quite spacious with a huge bar area that plays to the old-school malt shop theme, and has comfortable booths for larger parties. ted’s bulletin is located at 1818 14th street nw. follow them on twitter: @ tedsbulletin .

"family" restaurant. don't be fooled by the sign on the door - this is a family restaurant in the loosest sense of the word. we were visiting d.c from kansas city and staying in the eastern market neighborhood. we realized quickly that this was an area where most restaurants catered for couples - not a huge surprise given the demographics of the area. so we sought out a restaurant that would suit our family, three kids aged 6, 4 & 2. we had walked past ted's bulletin the previous night and thought that it looked great. the cautious father in me decided to call in advance (at 6:30pm on a sunday night) to confirm if a) they have a kids menu as this can't be seen on their website despite the adult menu being visible and b) if it was necessary to book a table as kids under 7 generally don't have the patience to wait for a table when they're tired and hungry. i was assured that there was a kids menu and that there was no need to book a table given we planned to arrive within the next hour. we walked in 40 mins later and stood in the front bar area for 10 mins expecting at least an acknowledgement from the bar staff or perhaps a host. instead, we waited in no mans land in the middle of the front dining room behind what may have been a line for the main dining room or just a few people waiting for friends. after ten minutes and no sign of any service, we jumped when a kind chap and his kids vacated table nearby and suggested that we take it. unsure if we needed to be seated, we decided to accept given there was no discernible line and the hosts were apparently m.i.a. we started to clear the used plates to one side and after another 10 minutes a server appeared. he asked if we had been seated by a host to which i responded "we haven't laid eyes on a host for 20 minutes we've been in here". he refused to serve us until we checked in with the hosts in the next room. i complied to be told there would be a 50 min wait for a table. so maybe we were unlucky to hit an unexpected influx of customers, or maybe the staff are just incompetent. my gut feeling is the latter. good luck.

i recently visited ted's bulletin in capitol hill to try out one of their new spring cocktail creations. i was lucky enough to taste the cocky yamazaki, a concoction by mixologist george menold. george was tasked with constructing a refreshing whiskey drink that would cool ted's patrons down in the warmer months, perhaps to be enjoyed at one of their outside tables. by combining the yamazaki with ginger and mint liqueurs and using a barrel aging process, george has cleverly transformed this obscure japanese whiskey into a cool-to-the-taste cocktail perfect for spring!

birthday dinner. our granddaughter's birthday dinner was great fun. the food was large portioned and great tasting. the potato salad was so yummy. down side was we ate so much dinner until we had no room for desert. hint: face your kids toward the wall showing the silent movie and they will be mesmerized.

at first glance, i thought ted's bulletin was just a glorified diner dressed up like an extra on boardwalk empire. after all, what do 19 year-old baseball players know about places to eat since, well, they're just 19 and all they've been doing is playing baseball. it turns out they know a lot or at least they know that everyone should find a go to place to find a reliable, comforting meal. ted's bulletin is such a place. from the well done comfort food to the eternal breakfast, everything that comes out (sometimes too quickly though) will always leave you satisfied. personally, i could probably just stick to the milkshakes and pop tarts.

great place. i have been twice and both times were an absolute success. both times i had their "adult" shakes and they were great. had the nutty professor and the bailey's caramel macchiato. the burger was favorable and the chicken fried steak decent. would def recommend this place to visitors of dc. worth the wait if there is one. great service.

the ambiance was interesting. it definitely caught my attention. the mixed crowd of musicians, families with kids and young professionals created a wide range of conversations. much like the post review i'm not sure if my server was a deer in headlights or a cheerleader. i was with two others and everyone got the wrong side dishes. the brisket sandwich tasted "raw" not slow cooked like the menu description. the chili was filled with salt so much i only tasted 1 spoonful. i tried again with the country fried steak with mac and cheese and that was a hit! the person who came out to apologize about the sides was wearing an apron. she was extremely and genuinly apologetic but i couldn't tell if she was the manager or head chef. the coke float was a hit! i would go back as well as invite others to try though wouldn't be surprised if the orders get mixed up again. one accommodating trait was that they provided real toys vs. crayons for the kids at the opposite table. that was a nice touch and kept the kids occupied.

good food and good service. i was looking for something unique near the hill and this was a good recommendation. the chicken fried steak was great but the line of adult milkshakes and homemade pop-tarts sealed it for me.
