taco boy

overpriced/bad service. my date and i spent nearly 90 dollars on 4 tacos a salad and 5 drinks with tip. the money wouldn't have been as big of a deal if theservicehadn't been so terrible. we asked for silverware 3 times and finally got some when i got up from the table and engaged a hostess for some. the atmosphere is fun and the decor cool and hip, but the value just isn't there when you take into consideration bang for your buck.

quality has gone down.... what happened?

i always thought all of your taco prices were a little high, but now the quality has gone down too. i used to love your tuna tacos... but you jacked up the price.

i've been arguing with all of my friends that you were still good. i convinced them to go, and i was wrong.

even theservicewas terrible this time. i don't blame my server though, she had tables scattered everywhere.... obvious management screw up, not server screw up.

the food has always been better from your folly beach location, but it was just plain terrible downtown this time.

i hope i can convince my friends to give you another shot at your folly location, but its going to be a hard sell.

great place, pretty good food, drinks are okay butserviceis always good. been here many times, street corn is amazing, i also really like the fried chicken taco. closes at 10 not 11 though, please fix it in the app, it’s broken my heart trying to go there after work too many times lol

i've been to the taco boy on folly beach a few times so i expected great things from this one but i was very disappointed! i ordered some guacamole which surprised me, it was very good! by my entree, simple chicken nachos took 30 mins to come out and when they did it was clear they had been sitting out. maybe they were finished before the rest of my tables food but nachos are just just not something that can sit out. overallservicewas okay. the patio is super cute and the ambiance i would give a 4!

my family had my birthday lunch here today. the food was great! we loved the fresh guacamole! i had the shrimp taco plato with cowboy beans and their rice. plenty of food and everything was fresh and tasty!servicewas friendly and attentive. i love the decor! colored glass windows, all different kinds of chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. outdoor and indoor seating. great experience!

its charleston people!. four dollars per taco is a little steep, but this is charleston. on the other hand the atmosphere is great and theserviceis even better. i had two tacos carne asada and one americano, and enjoyed them a lot. your not going to get a true mexican street taco at taco boy, but you will have a very tasty meal.

happy place. i commonly say that taco boy is my happy place and for good reason. the atmosphere is welcoming, fun and takes you to a whimsical foodie paradise.servicecan be slow during peek times but i often do not mind as the vibe is relaxed and i tend to stay for long periods of time anyway. this is not only a favorite for my friends and i but it is also a wonderful spot to bring out of town guests for a delicious meal and a certified good time!

i don't think i agree with the one dollar sign meaning that the entree price is really higher than $10. example a taco salad with any meat is $11. most of the menu is al a carte which means once you pick your taco and side you will likely be above $10. family of four cost me $60, it's the most expensive mexican place i know. food for the most part is good (we like everything but the rice).serviceis good and judging by how many people were there they don't need to lower their prices because the place was packed. they have good atmosphere and the bar is very cool. great outdoor and indoor seating.

i go all of the time. food is always good.serviceis excellent. super friendly wait staff and awesome margaritas. love everything about it.

worth a try. what taco boy is not:
1. authentic mexican.
2. overpriced (have you guys eaten anywhere in charleston? how much cheaper can you make a taco when its ingredients go beyond the basics?)
3. a five-star gourmet establishment.

taco boy is a great spot for happy hour, lunch, or dinner (sorry--never tried brunch). the general decor is clever and eco-friendly, and the ambience is sort of lively yet laid-back. yes, there are college kids (because some college kids are old enough to drink and all of them are old enough to eat), but there are also 30-something singles, parents with children, and everything else.

there aren't a ton of tourists (yay!) because it is, admittedly, in a sketchy area. don't leave anything of value in your car, and don't hang out unnecessarily by the side of the road. biking to this area at night seems imprudent to me, but i still see people doing it.

theserviceis generally okay--usually, great; other times, not so much. the food is very consistent. guac is awesome. considering you get a vat of it, i don't think it's too expensive. frankly, every mexican restaurant i've ever been to has better salsa, so don't feel bad about skipping it.

the taco boy salad (note: not to be confused with a taco salad, which isn't even on the menu) is fantastic. i order it frequently as a meal, and that's something i never do anywhere else. the slice of tres leches is huge, and the michelada (tex/mex style beer) is not to be missed.

this is a great place for groups, with ample parking and long tables that can hold quite a crew.

give it a try. at least go for cocktails. and if you hate it, stay home. i'll be happy to take your place in the courtyard.

maybe the entire staff was still hungover from their halloween party the night before. not sure. this was the worst dining experience i have ever had. after waiting 15 minutes for a waitress to come over and take our drink orders and then at least 5 more to get our drinks and place our food orders, it took another 30 minutes to get our tacos. we were one of only five tables inside. maybeserviceoutside is better. by the time we got our joke of a taco that didn't have what was on the menu in them and some of the wrong tacos, we were to hungry to send them back. we finally got a water at the end if the meal. they did take a few tacos off but that doesn't make up for the horribleserviceand long wait.

entertaining.... fun and eclectic atmosphere.servicevaries from time to time. the food is simple and fresh and i enjoy it for its lack of complexity. the guacamole i would murder someone over, and their chips are done well also! price point is a little much for what your getting, but we all have to make money somehow. bartenders there are instant comrades. please spray for mosquitoes mr. boy!
