taco boy

overpriced/bad service. my date and i spent nearly 90 dollars on 4 tacos a salad and 5drinkswith tip. the money wouldn't have been as big of a deal if the service hadn't been so terrible. we asked for silverware 3 times and finally got some when i got up from the table and engaged a hostess for some. the atmosphere is fun and the decor cool and hip, but the value just isn't there when you take into consideration bang for your buck.

45 min wait. went for lunch. was seated right away. ordered tacos, drinks, and chips. got ourdrinksand chips. 45 min later we where still waiting for our tacos. checked with the waitress 4 or 5 times and got the same answer that they where busy. then she said that she would pay for our meal, out of her pay, and would just charge for thedrinksand chips. 10 min later, no tacos. this is bs, i’m not lettering her pay for a problem in the kitchen. i left cash for the tip and bill, then and we left.
while sitting there waiting, we counted flies and tried to swat a few. amazed ourselves over how wait staff and hostess walked around spilled food on the floor and steps. well, i guess this is just part of the ambiance and helps pass the time.

great place, pretty good food, drinksare okay but service is always good. been here many times, street corn is amazing, i also really like the fried chicken taco. closes at 10 not 11 though, please fix it in the app, it’s broken my heart trying to go there after work too many times lol

taco boy is a fabulous place to eat. love the atmosphere but it's the first mexican restaurant where i had to pay for chips n salsa (no refills) thedrinksare fantastic, strong with excellent flavor. thedrinksalone would keep me coming back, until i saw that your allowed to bring your pet in the establishment to sit on your lap while you eat with paws on the table.

very active & fresh. taco boy was a lot of fun! the food and atmosphere were fresh, thedrinkswere cold and kept flowing. gets busy during happy hour, so plan ahead. very loud. love taco boy.

i'm on the fence.... i want to like this place. i really do. it looks like a cool place to have somedrinksand chow down on some tacos. it should be relatively easy considering it's pseudo-hole-in-the-wall vibe. the place makes you feel like you've discovered something that only the locals know about.

i first tried it at the downtown location and, unfortunately, wasn't much impressed. it serves tacos. i get it. with a limited menu selection and a la carte items at around $3-$4 each i thought you'd get a little something more. i don;t know what i was expecting i guess.

i more recently tried the johns island location since it was the "original" from what i understand. again i want to like this place. i ordered two tacos - the vegetarian and the barbacoa. the barbacoa was delicious. lots of flavor and tender. it made my mouth water. the vegetarian was lame. i know it's an odd thing to order at a taco place, but if you're going to add it to your menu you better make sure it's good. whoever put it together threw some lettuce and tomato into the shell and called it a day. at $3 it was definitely not worth it - it could've been served more like a garnish.

will i try taco boy a third time? only if i'm hungry and craving that barbacoa.

maybe the entire staff was still hungover from their halloween party the night before. not sure. this was the worst dining experience i have ever had. after waiting 15 minutes for a waitress to come over and take our drink orders and then at least 5 more to get ourdrinksand place our food orders, it took another 30 minutes to get our tacos. we were one of only five tables inside. maybe service outside is better. by the time we got our joke of a taco that didn't have what was on the menu in them and some of the wrong tacos, we were to hungry to send them back. we finally got a water at the end if the meal. they did take a few tacos off but that doesn't make up for the horrible service and long wait.

fun and funky. the food is not complex - tacos and such. basically a single page menu in two columns with beers anddrinkson the back of the menu. but what they have is done right with lots of flavor. not counting alcohol you will end up spending about $10 to $12 per person. thedrinksare up to you.

there is a great outside area and a bar that surrounds the window between inside and out. the atmosphere is funky and the staff is friendly. they taco boy has a good sized parking lot, but it can fill up fast which will leave you parking on the street. so go early, get a good spot, and enjoy the evening.
