love it. can say enough good things about pourhouse. we stopped for a late lunch while in vancouver and it was a great experience from the time we were greeted at the door. food was amazing, service was top notch and the cocktails were great.

so, while my “meal” was not the greatest in terms of food or value, i found the restaurant itself to be a really enjoyable place to get together with friends in a more upscale but still relaxed atmosphere.

it is subtley thematic on early north american pubs or even english gastropub. the bartenders are in suspenders and cheeky little page boy caps and the font was nearly early american-western.

the good bits are excellent. only some of the dishes that we tried were any good, but those that were were excellent. the service was good, the creme brulee close to perfect, and the decor, in all its moodily-lit, steampunky glory, is as fab as anything in gastown. don't be put off by their ghastly website . and don't bother with the mushroom/potato bake thing - which, all the way down to the fey attempt at an ironic doily- is like your granny's dullest shepherd's pie.

it was just ok. i didn't find the food extraordinary and the service wasn't great --the staff seem to be spending more time in the new items coming from the kitchen, than making sure if we had some water or any ketchup for my fries--
small piece of bread for my pâté, so we had to wait until the staff cheked out the new dish from the kitchen, so we could order extra bread again, in other words maybe a little bit dissapointed from the service more than the food.

great addition to gastown. had the opportunity to enjoy a great meal at pourhouse - two weeks after they opened. it is a small restaurant that is dimly lit (part of the ambiance) that provides a romantic, warm feeling. service was excellent, attentive, and knowledgeable. the menu is not overwhelming - the chef (chris irving) has selected some great items and has not overdone it. the menu is buit on several comfort foods - and then emblished with a bit of flare. mains are served seperate of sides. beef short ribs were dripping off the bone and the halibut was perfectly cooked. overall a very enjoyable dining experience. good wine list.
