pourhouse, like many of itsgastownbrothers and sisters, is a good restaurant. not just because of the food, though the food that i tried was good. not just because of the drinks, because they were good too

great little spot ingastownwith a trendy ambiance. the menu had a great selection of unique dishes. i loved the dish i had. it was so unique and delicious, we ended up ordering two of the dishes. i was so impressed with the presentation. service was quick and the server was attentive. they had a good selection of wine but i found the prices to be a little on the high side. would go back to try other dishes as i was quite impressed with the dishes we selected.

pourhouse is agastownneighbourhood bar and restaurant that i frequent because they’re equally serious about their food and cocktail programs. i’m a bottomless pit when i drink so that’s important. the cocktail recipes are not particularly difficult and there’s something for everyone, from frothy and bright to round and herbal.

an excellent cocktail bar ingastownwhich is the best place in vancouver for going on a first date. if you can, sit at the bar so you can interact with their skilled barmen and have them customize a cocktail to your palate. if not, the waiters/waitresses do a great job at explaining the various drinks. their food is also excellent.

we are not sure about the restaurant part; beyond a plate of tasty hot frites with aioli (and what is the deal with all the bone marrow on menus these days – do people actually order this?) the food menu does not appear that extensive here, but that completely and utterly does not matter. they could have no food menu at all at pourhouse and we would still come again and again for the. best. cocktails. in vancouver.

evoking an underground speakeasy from the prohibition era, this stylish gin joint is agastowngem that should not be missed. the music vibe is classic rock and motown. if you want a cocktail made to order just the way you like i

i grew up in a small hotel where from time to time, the chef would prepare "marrow bones on toast" for the dinner menu. this was considered a great delicacy. the bones were sliced horizontally in cross-section so there would be a couple of round sections of bone on the plate with thin slices of toast. i remember digging out the small globules of marrow, smearing them on the toast and enjoying the rich creamy flavour. so when i saw roasted bone marrow with sea salt, radish and grilled bread under the appetizer section of this menu, i had to try it. six of us converged on the pourhouse restaurant ingastownto celebrate a birthday. our birthday girl loves jazz and every sunday night the restaurant features a band so this was the perfect choice for her birthday dinner. between us we had a variety of salads and appetizers, and two of our group could not resist the mac and cheese with bacon  which was quite a substantial portion. the raw oysters came with the usual mignonette sauce; minced shallots , pepper and vinegar. rather than a main course i decided on two appetizers - the first was the roasted marrow bone - full of creamy flavour as i remembered but

pourhouse restaurant is located in downtown vancouver’sgastowndistrict. if you are up for a nice lounge type restaurant with a bar or have craving for a drink with american style food, this is the place for you. it’s a little in the pricier side of things however with a nice atmosphere and service, along with great food, it’s worth it.

pourhouse restaurant ingastownhas a good lunch deal for $14, where you get a sandwich, a beer and a side. since it does come with beer, the price isn't too bad. mandu, koreangirl and jojocake came here for lunch on a weekday, but once we sat down, we really didn't want beer since we will had some work to do in the afternoon. it would have been awkward smelling like beer in the office. pourhouse gives you the option of having other drinks instead. cappuccino was just what jojocake needed. she thought it was alright, but the temperature definitely could have been hotter. macchiato is what mandu needed. similar to jojocake, her coffee was just lukewarm and not hot. tea is what koreangirl and i needed. the tea was a good temperature and the tea cups came warmed too. pulled pork sandwich with cream of cauliflower soup . this is what everyone else at the table ordered. the pulled pork sandwich has pulled pork, bbq sauce, aged cheddar and slaw. they thought it was bit small at first, but wh

following the bombay sapphire speakeasy event , adam queenie and i went to pourhouse for some more drinks food. i used to go to school right above pourhouse, at the vsbm a couple years ago. i loved being downtown everyday, and more specifically being ingastownall the time. it gave me the opportunity & excuse to try out many restaurants, such as deacon's corner , the alibi room , the cambie , momo sushi , brioche , so.cial (now called le magasin), revel room and the irish heather (long table series) . the interior of pourhouse is very romantic.. definitely sets the mood and transports you, which is sometimes the most important aspect of dining out. sure you can make food at home, but you can't change your setting (well, not entirely) when you do that, and that really a

the food was excellent, but the service was just god-awful. (actually, all the staffs were great, expect for one, according to the receipt, her name is elysse, she has blonde hair and works during lunch hours)

pourhouse was one of my favorite spot for lunch in thegastownneighborhood; they've got tasty cocktails and i've enjoyed many great meals prepared by their talented chefs.

however, the last two dining experience weren't so pleasant. i was served by a server called elysse, who gave us very lousy services.

the first time elysse served us, she forgot to type in our orders.
after an hour,(mind you, the restaurant wasn't very busy at all. there were 5 tables including us) when we asked her about our food, she impatiently said "your food is coming, or do you want me to just cancel your orders?"

elysse failed to apologize, not only did we not get our meal after waiting for an hour, but she had the nerve to ask if we wanted to cancel our meal?

two months later, i've decided to give pourhouse another chance because i love their duck confit pappardell and their drinks. (they took pappardell off their fall menu, which is fine, i like their other dishes as well)

this time, we got elysse as our server, again.

i got the pork belly po'boy special and it was delicious.
my coworker got a tuna sandwich, which (unfortunately) got not 1, but 3 pieces of gigantic fish bones left inside the fillet; they are not tiny fish bones, each of the bone is almost as long as a toothpick!

we told elysse about the fish bones situation, hoping she could at least speak to the kitchen staffs and let them know about it. (because of the bad experience that i had last time with her, i had a feeling that elysse would just take away the plate and not do anything about it, so i took some pictures of the bones, which have some blood (blood from my coworker's mouth) on it, i will post it on urbanspoon if anyone wants to see if i am exaggerating)

she told us that, "it 's albacore tuna fillet, okay? so like, there will be bones in it. the chef poached it with milk, maybe they missed one or two bones here and there, so yea. it happens." no apologies, nothing.

yes, maybe if the tuna sandwich didn't cost $15 dollars+hst, i would understand.

we still got charged for the full price for our meal and did not get an apology from elysse. it's hard to imagine anyone who works in the customer service sector can be so rude, especially at a place like pourhouse.
i certainly wasn't expecting a low-end burger joint service from pourhouse.

that's too bad. they have great food.

there are tons of outstanding new restaurants in downtown/gastown, with fantastic customer service.

i do not recommend anyone to have lunch at the pourhouse.
unless blonde server with poor attitude excites you.

pourhouse is just one of many and it's considered a north american "pub"; proof positive that responsibility isn't limited to fancy shmancee restaurants. most locals are now familiar with thisgastownvenue. it's an easy choice for a weekend meal and drin
