an excellent cocktail bar in gastown which is the best place in vancouver for going on a first date. if you can, sit at the bar so you can interact with their skilled barmen and have them customize a cocktail to your palate. if not, the waiters/waitresses do a great job at explaining the various drinks. their food is also excellent.

service was terrible. i generally quite enjoy the pourhouse, but tonight my service was absolutely horrible. this seems to be a pattern here, and i would think that if the pourhouse would like to enjoy high ratings, they would train their staff and service to be polite.

our server was outright rude to me - completely unacceptable when we are paying hundreds of dollars for an evening. i will not be returning.

... we asked for a refire and thankfully got a truly medium-rare patty this time; patty was very juicy, and burger was pretty decent, but it just failed to impress completely...

great drinks. okay food. te.... great drinks. okay food.
terrible service. egotistical, pretentious staff. belittled me when i asked for a side of creamed spinach. all because they did not want to offend the chef. pardon? how is that offensive? recommended that i try earl's or cactus club if i wanted to add items to my meal. also told me i did not understand espresso when i complained that theirs tasted terrible. trust me, it was awful! tasted like vinegar.
all in all, a horrible experience. they definitely think they are way better than they actually are. will never go back.

we are not sure about the restaurant part; beyond a plate of tasty hot frites with aioli (and what is the deal with all the bone marrow on menus these days – do people actually order this?) the food menu does not appear that extensive here, but that completely and utterly does not matter. they could have no food menu at all at pourhouse and we would still come again and again for the. best. cocktails. in vancouver.

evoking an underground speakeasy from the prohibition era, this stylish gin joint is a gastown gem that should not be missed. the music vibe is classic rock and motown. if you want a cocktail made to order just the way you like i

i have written about this one a few times already. and it still remains as one of my favourites places to visit downtown. a have come in for meals and just drinks, and each time have not been disappointed with the selection. i consider it a guarantee good eat. a solid choice when between my guest and i, we can’t decide on where to dine. and seeing as today i would be sharing my meal with a vegetarian, i wasn’t willing to chance on the food or place. in fact i was here with the same guest that was with me during my last visit here.

walking in both the elevated dining area and the bar were empty. the friendly bartender popped up and out from his station to greet us. despite our willingness to seat ourselves, he followed us to a booth of our choosing and equipped us with what we needed to order our meal, a selection process between three menus. at 3pm we were still in time for lunch, but not being interested in sandwiches we passed on their soup, sandwich, and beer deal. and sadly there was no happy hour specials to take advantage of other than three discounted drinks. so we stuck with their regular menu.

i'm in love!. it's hard not to be too positive about this place. love the vibe, love the service and the food... wow. this menu is my wet dream! so much pork you're drowning in it, just fat soaked, bacon wapped goodness.. with bone marrow? do i really have to say more?

if you're like me and thought (based on the name) that this is another generic pub you're about to be proven wrong, but in the best possible way!

i grew up in a small hotel where from time to time, the chef would prepare "marrow bones on toast" for the dinner menu. this was considered a great delicacy. the bones were sliced horizontally in cross-section so there would be a couple of round sections of bone on the plate with thin slices of toast. i remember digging out the small globules of marrow, smearing them on the toast and enjoying the rich creamy flavour. so when i saw roasted bone marrow with sea salt, radish and grilled bread under the appetizer section of this menu, i had to try it. six of us converged on the pourhouse restaurant in gastown to celebrate a birthday. our birthday girl loves jazz and every sunday night the restaurant features a band so this was the perfect choice for her birthday dinner. between us we had a variety of salads and appetizers, and two of our group could not resist the mac and cheese with bacon  which was quite a substantial portion. the raw oysters came with the usual mignonette sauce; minced shallots , pepper and vinegar. rather than a main course i decided on two appetizers - the first was the roasted marrow bone - full of creamy flavour as i remembered but

this is my third visit to date and it has yet to disappoint. definitely one of my go to’s when in gastown. great food and large portions at decent prices. the dining trifecta. we came here for more food, having met with disappointment from our first stop. we couldn’t believe that we missed it our first time around. as i have pointed out in the past, the exterior isn’t very prominent, nor is it trying to be memorable. a muted glass entrance looking into a foyer of grey concrete, soften with a vase full of flowers and a wooden bench. as before the sandwich board at knee height did little to stop us, even with us actively looking for places to eat.

great atmosphere!. my boyfriend and i stopped in here for a drink after dinner on a sunday night. it was after 9pm and the place was busy and a live jazz band was playing. this was my first time being here and it will definitely not be my last!

served piping hot fresh from the oven, these cookies are crisp all around on the outside, with the slightest crunch on the very edges, yet fluffy – oh! the airiness – inside, and the little nuggets of chocolate chips simply oozing, “addiction” has a whole new meaning. a comfort dessert like no other, this is the dish to end the night on.
