pourhouse restaurant

one of my favourite places in the city. the servers are very attentive and havegreatattention to even the smallest detail. 

the interior has a very old school 20's vibe. almostgreatgatsby-esque. the bartenders all look dapper with their beards and vest. i almost wish the girls would wear flapper dresses and feather headbands. it goes well with the jazz band that plays once a week. 

the food is awesome. my personal favourite, and arguably the best in town is the burger. it's just so juicy and perfect. their fries are also on point. the bone marrow is also something worth trying. they serve it with toast and sea salt. it's so creamy and buttery. it'sgreatfor sharing. another favourite of mine is the mac n' cheese with bacon.

great little spot in gastown with a trendy ambiance. the menu had agreatselection of unique dishes. i loved the dish i had. it was so unique and delicious, we ended up ordering two of the dishes. i was so impressed with the presentation. service was quick and the server was attentive. they had a good selection of wine but i found the prices to be a little on the high side. would go back to try other dishes as i was quite impressed with the dishes we selected.

awesome service! very knowledgeable about the menu,greatrecommendations. i forget the name but i had a martini that was pink, with a egg white foam on top, its made with 2 oz gin and fresh raspberries, and lime. mmm also the white lady is very good !

didn't eat there tho... next time!

tried to play "stump the bartender". i could not. they knew their stuff and every cocktail was expertly made. main reason i went to pourhouse twice on this recent vancouver visit, looking forward to coming back. love agreatcocktail bar.

good.greatatmosphere and decor. the place is small and cozy. the food is very tasty. we went for valentines. the dishes are like "tapas". there was live music.

headed to gastown for lunch because i really wanted to try the new soft serve place uyu . decided on this restaurant because i’ve seen lots ofgreatreview on it. not as strong and easy to down. lunch special – pulled pork burger with fries

i brought a friend in the evening and we sat in the "lounge" area after getting dinner somewhere else (two high-backed, plushy armchairs with a small round table). in short, we had agreattime! our server was attentive and friendly, and offered to suggest drinks depending on what style my friend wanted. i ordered a couple of cocktails and a neat single serving of dalwhinnie (15yr), and my friend ordered a jack rose and brandy alexander. the pourhouse staff also serve drinks that are not on the menu, which is always lovely. the drinks are nicely made, and water is constantly served. it was agreatway to end off the evening in a nice atmosphere.

pros:

- an undeniable sophisticated atmosphere.
-greatservice with drinks coming within a few minutes of ordering.
- very good scotch eggs.

cons:
- too busy and cannot get seated immediately.

an excellent cocktail bar in gastown which is the best place in vancouver for going on a first date. if you can, sit at the bar so you can interact with their skilled barmen and have them customize a cocktail to your palate. if not, the waiters/waitresses do agreatjob at explaining the various drinks. their food is also excellent.

terrible service. egotistical, pretentious staff. belittled me when i asked for a side of creamed spinach. all because they did not want to offend the chef. pardon? how is that offensive? recommended that i try earl's or cactus club if i wanted to add items to my meal. also told me i did not understand espresso when i complained that theirs tasted terrible. trust me, it was awful! tasted like vinegar.
all in all, a horrible experience. they definitely think they are way better than they actually are. will never go back.

i grew up in a small hotel where from time to time, the chef would prepare "marrow bones on toast" for the dinner menu. this was considered agreatdelicacy. the bones were sliced horizontally in cross-section so there would be a couple of round sections of bone on the plate with thin slices of toast. i remember digging out the small globules of marrow, smearing them on the toast and enjoying the rich creamy flavour. so when i saw roasted bone marrow with sea salt, radish and grilled bread under the appetizer section of this menu, i had to try it. six of us converged on the pourhouse restaurant in gastown to celebrate a birthday. our birthday girl loves jazz and every sunday night the restaurant features a band so this was the perfect choice for her birthday dinner. between us we had a variety of salads and appetizers, and two of our group could not resist the mac and cheese with bacon  which was quite a substantial portion. the raw oysters came with the usual mignonette sauce; minced shallots , pepper and vinegar. rather than a main course i decided on two appetizers - the first was the roasted marrow bone - full of creamy flavour as i remembered but

this is my third visit to date and it has yet to disappoint. definitely one of my go to’s when in gastown.greatfood and large portions at decent prices. the dining trifecta. we came here for more food, having met with disappointment from our first stop. we couldn’t believe that we missed it our first time around. as i have pointed out in the past, the exterior isn’t very prominent, nor is it trying to be memorable. a muted glass entrance looking into a foyer of grey concrete, soften with a vase full of flowers and a wooden bench. as before the sandwich board at knee height did little to stop us, even with us actively looking for places to eat.

pourhouse restaurant is located in downtown vancouver’s gastown district. if you are up for a nice lounge type restaurant with a bar or have craving for a drink with american style food, this is the place for you. it’s a little in the pricier side of things however with a nice atmosphere and service, along withgreatfood, it’s worth it.
