delicious (but sinful). la boulangerie truly delivers on the french cafe experience. it is my go-to for a delicious, decadent, european breakfast / lunch. it is pricey!! but oh-so-good. their croissants, pastries, espresso, fresh squeezed orange juice, baguettes, etc. are all delicious. i especially love the baguette sandwiches with fresh tomatoes and basil!
if you've been to europe and love the cafe experience, la boulangerie is a must-try for you. they won't let you down!

great sandwiches, soups, and desserts. service is always pleasant but can be chaotic at times (lunch rush). my only complaint is the paper plates and plastic cutlery - at these prices, i expect real plates and real cutlery. it cheapens the experience.

crepes were undercooked, pastries were good but certain things tell me cost cutting is going to be around the corner

best lunch experience europe style. just finished my lunch at this great place, had chicken savory crepe and lentil soup to share with my friend, yammi!!!!!! had to finish with a few sweet creations and took some to the office as well. great patio and wonderful service, feels just like my visit to france. this is my new best place in town!!!!

only ok, terribly overpriced. the crepes were nice but hardly filling enough even as a light meal. bought some pastries and bread to go, pastries weren't amazing as i would expect at $5 apiece, too sweet and a bit dry. staff seemed rather disorganized and confused.

pastries and coffee, la boulangerie on 4th street.   i have meant to try la boulangerie for a long, long time! so when our friends suggested it for brunch, i was very excited! this is the type of cafe we should have every other block, including those dreadful suburbs. then i’d finally be happy with calgary (though i can’t promise i’d stop complaining about it!). since my first visit to la boulangerie – bakery cafe (2435 4th street sw), i came back every single weekend! it has become our favorite weekend afternoon tea coffee pastry place! i am not sure i’d go back there for brunch, but had i lived in the neighborhood, i’d certainly be a regular. the place is not as cozy as other cafes. it only has around 10 tables and it’s harder to fit larger parties. on weekends, brunch is crazy – if you get a spot, go get a lottery ticket as well cause it’s your lucky day! i tried the salmon sandwich on a baguette (around $10), together with a hot chocolate that i loved! the sandwich was fresh, tasty

buttery flake pastries. the flake pastries here are a buttery indulgence. they are so crispy, flaky, airy and buttery that you will want to eat more then just one. they come in both sweet & savory combinations so there is always something new to try.

they call it true french baking but i've never been to a bakery in france (whether in paris or the countryside) that dumps icing sugar on everything. yuk

avoid the lunch rush. my husband and i shared a french onion soup and two great sandwiches at this place but we went around 2:30. i have walked in at noon and walked right out. their ordering system is a very long process, and food takes awhile. i enjoyed the fresh baked baguettes, and have considered ordering a pastry - but haven't yet. it's the kind of place you need to go to first thing in the morning, or late afternoon to have a positive dining experience.

yes the layout is ridiculous; yes while waiting in line you have to wiggle around to see the contents within the container; yes the prices are over the top, but one needs to take into account the fact that it is a french concept bakery in a yuppie hood ; and yes the pastries are devine and worth the wait & cost... but let guess you can secretly afford to indulge once in awhile.

fair. lemon tart, crepes, baguette sandwich, coffee galore - i have come to the cafe countless times. they bake fresh bread almost daily and use no preservatives. their sourdough bread is quite tasty. the crepes are absolutely delightful and worth the wait. the lemon tart, my goodness, if you can enjoy to be carefree about your caloric intake in a day then by all means each person needs to indulge at least once. the cafe is the only other cafe on 4th that serves illy brand coffee from italy. in all honesty each restaurant gets they're usual hour rush, it just depends on when you come in. i love reading inexperienced reviews stating i will not come back anymore after only one visit. to be fair and objective you have to take into account the humanity of each business. ever tried to watch a movie on a friday night with everyone else trying to get in (in all honesty, good luck). unfortunately i feel sorry to the mouths raised on soft fastfood style burgers. you just won't be able to enjoy the french styled baguette. they are absolutely different from the usual soft chewy reprocessed burgers. it's just not the same, so i recommend those to stick to american fast food. there is a mix of reviewers on urbanspoon. some with class. and some notably without. enjoy!

the owner speaks to people as if they are dogs.. too many front desk staff members.. once cash station. which means you have to wait in line after you place your order to pay..
he speaks to his staffe members very rough. i don't know if he is on his period or something.. wouldn't recommend anyone to go there because it's not worth the money.. a crossiant is 3 something. when you can get it somewhere else for 1 something.. mines didn't taste fresh at all. tasted like it was sitting there all day .. there was this one girl there she was new and the owner was talkin to her as if she was dumb.. for a business that has been there for 5-6 months it's really bad.. i hope they get closed up because it's not worth anyone's money at all
