fantastic!. i have never been let down by this venue. i live in the neighborhood and also arrange catering for the company i work for. i have placed both large and small orders and both the food andserviceare always excellent. their menu has enough variety to please most. highlight would have to be their pastry, which is made in the traditional method - less sugar, lots of butter.

i wanted to like this place, seeing people sitting there before work having coffee. went today to have a coffee while i wait for a sandwich to take to work. it’s expensive, $5.25 cappuccino is rather small and comes only in paper cups. theserviceis extremely slow, the coffee took as long as the sandwich, the sandwich they made was the wrong one, i did not order a croissant and it was extremely salty. i will not go there again

i stopped over here to grab a latte and a baguette as i had heard it was a pretty decent place. customerservicewas just meh but what really pissed me off was that they sold me stale bread!? it wasn't cheap either and had wished i had just gotten one at safeway nearby for a fraction of the price. this already says a lot to me about the place...
latte was ok but overpriced

la boulangerie is just so good.
it’s a great cozy atmosphere that surrounds you with busy workers and beautiful pastries.
every time i go, theserviceis quick and wonderful, you’re ordering and sitting down to relax within 3 minutes. the coffee is fresh and aromatic, and if you’re feeling something sweet, the nutella latte is incredible.
the crepes seem a little expensive but as soon it gets to your table you can tell they’re worth it. great flavours, good size, totally worth it.
if you’re in mission and are feeling like a cute cafe to chill in, la boulangerie is the way to go.

kicking off the 2017 travel schedule in alberta, games at arenas #26 and #27 of the nhl bucket list on the agenda, saturday morning was off to an early start at la boulangerie bakery café in calgary, a spot that once the 8-day trip was finished still stood out for some items worth seeking out including a flawless savory croissant and world-class canele.

located at 2435 4 street sw and open at 6:30am every day but monday, much like the best of france, la boulangerie bakery café brings european craftsmanship and work-ethic to western canada with a collection of pastries, tarts and viennoiserie that is far too vast to be explored in one visit, a total of eight items ranging from good to excellent only scratching the surface of what i’d like to have tasted.

surprisingly busy given the cold weather and early hour, at least two-dozen patrons passing through or sitting down to enjoy during my short stay, servicewas smiling and helpful while seats were close-packed yet comfy, a small two-top near the door almost overloaded by a collection from which the mozzarella and sesame croissant was sampled first – laminated layers shattering to the tooth just as they would in the cream and almond-filled versions later, but giving way to a gooey, cheese-lacquered center that melded perfectly with toasty sesame notes and plenty of butter.

admittedly not wowed by the almond croissant, thankfully not marred by frangipane but also a bit too stingy with ground almonds, expectations were met by a kouign amann awash with butter and a crackling sugar bottom, the canele going one step further and surpassing almost any outside of europe in terms of crispiness overlying custard, even if the outside lacked the traditional deep-brown polish.

setting aside the cinnamon roll, underflavored though well laminated like the rest, better bites were found amidst the sliced croissant that stood up well the cream filling, the same to be said of crisp choux surrounding the naturally flavored pistachio filling of a lengthy éclair while both the caramel tart and self-proclaimed “best brownie in calgary” were well constructed with nuts helping to temper their sweetness.

amazing food/coffee with the classic tiny french cafe vibe. the strawberry tart was mind blowing. rich custard balanced with tart strawberries all on top of a crumbly crust. seriously perfection. the beef stew (not pictured) was a bit too salty, but the flavours were great! the ham & cheese croissant was delicious! when i picked it up i was surprised by how heavy it was. it is really packed with cheese. a warm, cheesy croissant in the morning, doesn't that sound great? the coffee was hot and fresh! i would definitely come back for the desserts.servicewas a bit awkward but nothing to complain about.

i met my sister here for brunch this past weekend. the place is just a few blocks from my home so i had been looking forward to finally checking it out and was excited to give it a try. unfortunately, it was one of the worst first impressions i've had from a local eatery. we ordered two lattes, one for each of us. at the same time, my sister ordered a dessert crepe for herself and an omelette for me. after placing our order, we waited about 10 minutes before asking the staff where our lattes were. apparently they had not been made yet.

a few moments later, a discombobulated staff member with a "trainee" badge brought us the two lattes and our dishes. my latte was served in a sticky cup and my omelette on a plate that was slightly messy and appeared as though it may have been previously used for something else and not cleaned. i didn't feel it was enough to complain about but in retrospect i probably should have. my sister asked if her crepe could be served with a garnish of whip creme (since the crepe looked rather boring on the plate to begin with) a request which the server did not seem to fully understand. she took the plate back and while leaning over it at the counter, fussed for several minutes with a canister of creme and returned with the crepe smothered in a pool of  runny , liquefied  creme ( from the bottom of the creme canister, i'm guessing). my sister had to ask her to take it back a second time because it was so ridiculously ugly.

it honestly felt like we were being filmed for a punk'd show or something. in contrast to the bizarreserviceand shocking neglect of basic hygiene practices, my omelette was good. the latte, however, was mediocre. very cute parisienne  atmosphere on the bright side but i sadly struggle with the idea of returning there  ever again.

la boulangerie is a local gem that prides itself on artisanal baguette sandwiches and other assorted pastries. it is one of my favourite bakeries in the city, and the friendliness of theservicekeeps me coming back. some of the must-haves include their tradition bostock, which is an almond pastry with a sugar glaze that makes taking just one bite impossible, and their matcha almond croissant, which has a delicate hint of green tea with a light flaky texture that creates an unforgettable taste. definitely a great place to catch up with friends, or to pick up a few treats!

my favorite place for sunday mornings. when i lived in calgary, i use to go here most sunday mornings. the pastries and coffee are delicious. the crepes are usually good too, however they can sometimes be disappointing. i think it all depends of who's working that are making them. the last time i was in town visiting, i made sure to make a visit for a good coffee and a delicious crepe, however this time the experience wasn't all that friendly. i found the girl that was taking my order didn't have the time of day to take my order. it was simple: coffee, crepe and eclair. i was disappointed with theserviceand how i was being treated. i don't expect much, but a smile now and then is nice.

tepid coffee, lacklustre crepe. passed by this place excitedly one day and noted it down for a future visit. but when i returned with a hungry belly i wasn't too impressed. the coffee i ordered was mediocre. the crepe was alright, but nothing extraodinary. theservicewas pretty fast but not the friendliest.

it is a shame, and maybe just an isolated incident, because this shop has such potential. the pastry fridge looked full of delicious goodies--maybe i made the wrong food choice. but unless i was passing by i wouldn't go out of my way to give it a second chance.

great sandwiches, soups, and desserts.serviceis always pleasant but can be chaotic at times (lunch rush). my only complaint is the paper plates and plastic cutlery - at these prices, i expect real plates and real cutlery. it cheapens the experience.

just great. tried it last sat morning. there was no problem with theserviceas described in the previous reviews. the pastries are amazing. i will go back to try every one of them. the patio is a nice place to sit and have breakfast or dessert. one hitch, they do not have refills on coffee or even a refill price. you have to pay another $2 bucks for a second cup of plain coffee. oh well.

will never go back.... customerserviceis key.
the organization of the bakery needs work. the queue completely covers the display case. customers have no idea what type of baked items are still available. when asking the owner what is available, he replies that there are too many choices, so please choose now. very impatient and cares little about customers returning.
crowded and poorly designed layout. why is the cashier counter the furthest away from the door....and the order pickup counter blocking the front entry.
for the price i'm paying for a coffee and a sandwich i would assume i'd have a seat to sit...there was barely room for standing.

great food and service. although at the beginningservicewas a little slow, that has all been cleared up now. as for person who wrote in that they saw the chef/owner at kingsland market location so maybe that was why pastries were not up to snuff, that is not true. he is at both locations and supervising new bakers. food is amazing and if you park further down the block on the avenue, parking is free.love their pastries and also their croissant sandwiches. i look forward to visiting there any chance i get.
