amazing food/coffee with the classic tiny french cafe vibe. the strawberry tart was mind blowing. rich custard balanced with tart strawberries all on top of a crumbly crust. seriously perfection. the beef stew (not pictured) was a bit too salty, but the flavours were great! the ham & cheese croissant was delicious! when i picked it up i was surprised by how heavy it was. it is really packed with cheese. a warm, cheesy croissant in the morning, doesn't that sound great? the coffee was hot and fresh! i would definitely come back for the desserts. service was a bit awkward but nothing to complain about.

i met my sister here for brunch this past weekend. the place is just a few blocks from my home so i had been looking forward to finally checking it out and was excited to give it a try. unfortunately, it was one of the worst first impressions i've had from a local eatery. we ordered two lattes, one for each of us. at the same time, my sister ordered a dessert crepe for herself and an omelette for me. after placing our order, we waited about 10 minutes before asking the staff where our lattes were. apparently they had not been made yet.

a few moments later, a discombobulated staff member with a "trainee" badge brought us the two lattes and our dishes. my latte was served in a sticky cup and my omelette on a plate that was slightly messy and appeared as though it may have been previously used for something else and not cleaned. i didn't feel it was enough to complain about but in retrospect i probably should have. my sister asked if her crepe could be served with a garnish of whip creme (since the crepe looked rather boring on the plate to begin with) a request which the server did not seem to fully understand. she took the plate back and while leaning over it at the counter, fussed for several minutes with a canister of creme and returned with the crepe smothered in a pool of  runny , liquefied  creme ( from the bottom of the creme canister, i'm guessing). my sister had to ask her to take it back a second time because it was so ridiculously ugly.

it honestly felt like we were being filmed for a punk'd show or something. in contrast to the bizarre service and shocking neglect of basic hygiene practices, my omelette was good. the latte, however, was mediocre. very cute parisienne  atmosphere on the bright side but i sadly struggle with the idea of returning there  ever again.

while i do enjoy coming here. if it's any time after lunch, the bread they use for baguette sandwiches is basically just rock hard and so hard to eat. the crepes are good but i always found the pastries lacking flavour and sometimes don't taste too fresh.

great breakfast, lunch, and brunch place. wide selection of freshly made croissants, croissant sandwiches, crepes, danishes, and other baked goods. my favourites were sweet and savoury croissants which were delicious and divine! the staff were friendly and genuinely smiling which was a plus for me. it adds to the overall milieu and personal experience of the place. it gets pretty busy in there but you'll be able to find a cozy spot to sit down and enjoy what they have to offer which is definitely worth the trip!

la boulangerie is a local gem that prides itself on artisanal baguette sandwiches and other assorted pastries. it is one of my favourite bakeries in the city, and the friendliness of the service keeps me coming back. some of the must-haves include their tradition bostock, which is an almond pastry with a sugar glaze that makes taking just one bite impossible, and their matcha almond croissant, which has a delicate hint of green tea with a light flaky texture that creates an unforgettable taste. definitely a great place to catch up with friends, or to pick up a few treats!

great matcha latte. just the right texture and sweetness. the place is clean, but you have to be a stick-bug to comfortably fit into any of the firmly-packed chairs in this place. there are too many tables and chairs for the size of the cafe. i've had a nice time relaxing when i'm on the patio, though. the place is nice and clean. the staff aren't particularly friendly (a bit cold) but no matter... i'm here for the food and ambiance. the desserts on display appear very appetizing, but they look better than they taste. in my multiple visits, i've tried the croissants, the meat puff, the ganache torte and the lemon tart. not...particularly...tasty. (but they look so amazing!) the croissant and meat puff were dry. they definitely did not know how to do chocolate ganache... the texture was too runny (for a torte) and we were left with a strange, rancid-butter aftertaste.... (maybe because the cream they used was old?) ...too bad because the chocolate tasted like high quality chocolate. i haven't tried their crepes yet, which sound promising...

i'd say for the price, the pastries are decent. my smoke salmon baguette was actually quite tasty despite it being dry. this place fills up really fast on weekends so be sure to come earlier.

this is a good place to chat over breakfast with a friend. their croissant sandwiches are very tasty and their fruit tarts are even better.

la boulangerie is conveniently located -a blow away from my place- and offers a good selection of pastries. i am less of a fan of their bread, and find it is a tad expensive (for the quality that is).
it may just be my french opinion (as every i know likes the place), but in the end, i'd rather walk a couple blocks more and go to yann's. la boulangerie is my backup plan.

food, pastry, and coffee here is great. usually food comes out pretty quick. there are a few weird things about this place, however. whenever i've ordered food to stay it is always served on a disposable plate. it feels weird. when food is brought to your table they bring no cutlery or napkins. you have to go to the takeaway counter inside and pick up disposable plastic cutlery. why? are there no real forks and spoons?

just seems things are a bit confusing and could be more hospitable. a real plate and cutlery world be nice. might even be cheaper for the restaurant!

cute cafe on 4th street near the safeway. there's a paid parking lot next to it and also street parking.

i like that there is a pretty spacious patio area and also inside. i only tried the coffee and tart which were both good. lots of people eating breakfast there, i'll have to try next time. my only wish is that the pastries were organized better in the display so i know what i am looking at and ordering.

the setup of this bakery needs a little bit more organizing. lineup is farther from the door and when you are done lining up, you gotta squeeze through a line of people to get to either a table or wait for your coffee. they do have really delicious crepes and croissants. my personal favorite croissant is the dark chocolate pistachio.

i like this place. their filo pastries with mushrooms and goat cheese are to die for. their crepes come in various flavours and ingredients to satisfy a sweet tooth or soothe a savoury craving. i'm not impressed by the flimsy paper plates they serve you on. their pastries are good, with unique looking round cakes available to buy, a good alternative to the usual suspect bakery products.

disposable plates & plastic forks and knives. i went to this place with my boyfriend and was quite disappointed. we ordered vegetarian crepes. the crepe itself was good, but the filling was very poor. few slices of mozzarella cheese and and 2 slices of tomatoes with one basil leaf inside. to my taste very dry without any creaminess to it.
on top of that, it was all served on disposable plates with plastic knives and forks. to me, it's a big no - no for a place that tries to promote its french vibe. not only that it isn't eco-friendly, it leaves a very cheap impression on me. i also bought their baguette which i can say was good compared to one you find at regular stores.
overall impression, overpriced for what you get, packed with little space to even move your hands/arms while eating your order.
