i stopped over here to grab a latte and abaguetteas i had heard it was a pretty decent place. customer service was just meh but what really pissed me off was that they sold me stale bread!? it wasn't cheap either and had wished i had just gotten one at safeway nearby for a fraction of the price. this already says a lot to me about the place...
latte was ok but overpriced

this place was a disappointment. we were going to wurst for a late lunch but decided to try this place. we were beyond disappointed. i ordered their pepper salami onbaguettewith a french onion soup. my friend ordered a tuna on croissant. the first bite of my sandwich was so so disappointing thebaguettewas harder ans drier then normal and literally the pepper salami was regular salami no pepper in it. since salami is sliced really thin they literally gave one slice per section of the sandwhich the basil was not spread out and they spread some sort pf pepper spread and did not cover thw whole bread and then used the small bocconcini (sliced in half) and spread it about half inch from each other and there were tomatoes i the sandwhich. when i ate it i could not even taste the salami or the bocconcini and some bites i can taste the basil and some not. i felt it was literally a tomato sandwhich which cost me $9.00. the french onion soup was ok, not to salty and lots of onions. this was the worst sandwhich place i have been too. i have posted a photo of my joke of a sandwhich. i ended up throwing the other half out. my friends tuna sandwhich was ok other then the croissant was dry as well. oir meal was not cheap for a crappy meal, which makes me angry cause i feel we were just penalized and had to pay for such a terrible meal. if they were once good....they are not now! i will never go there again.

while i do enjoy coming here. if it's any time after lunch, the bread they use forbaguettesandwiches is basically just rock hard and so hard to eat. the crepes are good but i always found the pastries lacking flavour and sometimes don't taste too fresh.

la boulangerie is a local gem that prides itself on artisanalbaguettesandwiches and other assorted pastries. it is one of my favourite bakeries in the city, and the friendliness of the service keeps me coming back. some of the must-haves include their tradition bostock, which is an almond pastry with a sugar glaze that makes taking just one bite impossible, and their matcha almond croissant, which has a delicate hint of green tea with a light flaky texture that creates an unforgettable taste. definitely a great place to catch up with friends, or to pick up a few treats!

i'd say for the price, the pastries are decent. my smoke salmonbaguettewas actually quite tasty despite it being dry. this place fills up really fast on weekends so be sure to come earlier.

disposable plates & plastic forks and knives. i went to this place with my boyfriend and was quite disappointed. we ordered vegetarian crepes. the crepe itself was good, but the filling was very poor. few slices of mozzarella cheese and and 2 slices of tomatoes with one basil leaf inside. to my taste very dry without any creaminess to it.
on top of that, it was all served on disposable plates with plastic knives and forks. to me, it's a big no - no for a place that tries to promote its french vibe. not only that it isn't eco-friendly, it leaves a very cheap impression on me. i also bought theirbaguettewhich i can say was good compared to one you find at regular stores.
overall impression, overpriced for what you get, packed with little space to even move your hands/arms while eating your order.

my first food experience at this french cafe was a dry croissant sandwich. i forgave them as it was late in the day. on my second occasion i stayed away from the sandwiches and pasteries as they looked dry and tasteless, so i opted for a bowl of french onion soup.
when it eventually arrived it was served in a paper bowl (they had already asked me if i wanted it to
stay or go). the broth was very sweet and tasted unatural. they cut two slices ofbaguetteand sprinkled a tiny amount of tasteless cold cheese from a bag in the fridge. i pointed this out to them and they were appologetic however nothing could be done. this is the worst french onion soup experience ihave ever had. not what you would expect from a french cafe.
my advice is give this place a miss. you will find much better in mission.

delicious (but sinful). la boulangerie truly delivers on the french cafe experience. it is my go-to for a delicious, decadent, european breakfast / lunch. it is pricey!! but oh-so-good. their croissants, pastries, espresso, fresh squeezed orange juice, baguettes, etc. are all delicious. i especially love thebaguettesandwiches with fresh tomatoes and basil!
if you've been to europe and love the cafe experience, la boulangerie is a must-try for you. they won't let you down!

pastries and coffee, la boulangerie on 4th street.   i have meant to try la boulangerie for a long, long time! so when our friends suggested it for brunch, i was very excited! this is the type of cafe we should have every other block, including those dreadful suburbs. then i’d finally be happy with calgary (though i can’t promise i’d stop complaining about it!). since my first visit to la boulangerie – bakery cafe (2435 4th street sw), i came back every single weekend! it has become our favorite weekend afternoon tea coffee pastry place! i am not sure i’d go back there for brunch, but had i lived in the neighborhood, i’d certainly be a regular. the place is not as cozy as other cafes. it only has around 10 tables and it’s harder to fit larger parties. on weekends, brunch is crazy – if you get a spot, go get a lottery ticket as well cause it’s your lucky day! i tried the salmon sandwich on abaguette(around $10), together with a hot chocolate that i loved! the sandwich was fresh, tasty

fair. lemon tart, crepes, baguettesandwich, coffee galore - i have come to the cafe countless times. they bake fresh bread almost daily and use no preservatives. their sourdough bread is quite tasty. the crepes are absolutely delightful and worth the wait. the lemon tart, my goodness, if you can enjoy to be carefree about your caloric intake in a day then by all means each person needs to indulge at least once. the cafe is the only other cafe on 4th that serves illy brand coffee from italy. in all honesty each restaurant gets they're usual hour rush, it just depends on when you come in. i love reading inexperienced reviews stating i will not come back anymore after only one visit. to be fair and objective you have to take into account the humanity of each business. ever tried to watch a movie on a friday night with everyone else trying to get in (in all honesty, good luck). unfortunately i feel sorry to the mouths raised on soft fastfood style burgers. you just won't be able to enjoy the french styled baguette. they are absolutely different from the usual soft chewy reprocessed burgers. it's just not the same, so i recommend those to stick to american fast food. there is a mix of reviewers on urbanspoon. some with class. and some notably without. enjoy!

best bakery in town. lots of people said it's not that good if you have tasted "manuel latruwe" before. so i tried both in the same week.
i am in calgary since a year, the rest of my life has been spent in france. let me tell you about bakeries...
yes there are some downsides (staff not super friendly, till far from the entrance) but this is it, the croissant and thebaguette(staples for me) are authentic. as good as in my country.
i would more than likely be hanging around on their patio with my café au lait this summer.

what a waste of time! manuel latruwe is so much better or l'epecirie on macleod trail. i had the chocolate and lemon tart and a selection of croissants and a baguette. tarts were messy, pastry too thick and the filling tasteless.baguettewasn't as good as l'epecirie and croissants were over baked. all in all don't bother!!
