more first watch than first watch. i have often lamented the lack of diversity among kc's breakfast joints. it's either first watch or the coin flip between waffle house and ihop (don't get me wrong both wh and ihop have a time and a place). this may not seem like much of a problem for most of you . . . those of us who view breakfast as simply the first meal of the day, but not necessarily the most important. i, on the other hand, have often remarked that breakfast is the soul reason i get out of bed at all. it is simply the one meal i cannot forego.
that said, i emphatically recommend kate's kitchen. i think of it as the cure for the common breakfast. very similar to first watch in its hours of operation and menu (breakfast to lunch and all points in between). however, the chefs of k's k seem to have taken the "no bad ideas" approach to fantastic effect. do you want an omelet or a bagel with lax? how 'bout we make you a smoked salmon omelet! do you want a traditional breakfast or french toast? guess what, brother, we're gonna stuff your french toast with a traditional breakfast! if you can dream it, chances are it's on the menu.
all of their creative offerings would be meaningless were it not for the quality of their product, which i will proudly say is excellent. as any cook knows, breakfast dishes require flawless execution (eggs in particular are unforgiving). k's k does a fine job in delivering consistent, well executed meals every time. their ingredients are fresh, assembled properly, and cooked to specifications.
if you live near this restaurant, you should be a regular. if not, you should make the trip. i whole-heartedly recommend.
