china house is hosting a nice noodle fest for all noodle lovers out there. the ambience at china house is the same it has been, not that it's a bad thing since they have tasteful decor and spaced out seating arrangements with a view into the kitchen through glass windows.
the staff is very well trained and are super polite tending to all your needs without any hesitation or confusion.
the food:
wonton soup
tasted more like a hot n sour soup with a wonton in it. not bad though. could've been a little less oily
waterchestnut dimsum
this was the best starter of the night. the ingredients in the dim sum were diced to the perfect sized bits, whilst bursting with some crackling flavours!
mixed veg dimsum
was also good, but like most dimsums you would eat at any restaurant. nothing overtly special
crispy vegetables
cauliflower, mushrooms, carrots, lady finger, lotus stem, capsicum and more all lightly spiced and fried to crispy perfection. this was a good dish, but the lady finger was a tad undercooked before being fried (too gooey after biting into it). but the dish overall was a hit
soba noodles
reading about it one can figure that this dish is supposed to be a subtle and bland-ish one. it's noodles in soy broth with spring onions. i can see how this dish can be a great accompaniment with some flavourful mains, but the noodles itself were a bit too watery. the water and soy sauce ratio was a bit off
homemade beetroot flat noodles
ermagawd! i've never had beetroot noodles, and boy am i glad i did. c'est magnifique! they can be had on its own or along with any mains you order. i would highly recommend this dish for sure!
sizzling veggies in stone bowl
winner of the night imho. tofu, broccoli, pok choy, carrots, baby corn..... ahhhh all the good stuff. sizzling in a stone bowl, cooking itself and staying piping hot while you enjoy your meal. the flavours were beautifully balances in this dish, which left us all wanting more.
i usually just go for the stone bowl potatoes, but this dish may change my mind next time i'm here. definitely worth a try
silken tofu in black bean sauce
can't go wrong with this dish. the gravy was tasty. given a choice, i'd go for the sizzling veggies though. i don't quite like silken tofu because they crumble too easily. good dish though
for virgin cocktails (lel) we had a lemongrass cooler which was refreshing af!
