i was staying at the hotel so stepped into the restaurant for a meal. went in their with the intention of having just soup, but then i saw the set menu. for 1,499++ you get a soup, two starters, two main course dishes, one staple and a dessert. everything, barring the soup and the dessert, was great. and don't get me wrong - the soup and the dessert were "just" good. definitely better than any meal i've had in ahmedabad in the 8-odd days i've spent in the city this year.
the place does justice to its popularity. very, very impressive - especially for the price.

ambience upmarket 4.5, service good 4.5 food good 4.5

visited 10 days ago. for dinner. great place to eat chinese. quite authentic and lots of options for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians including seafood. good starter menu. have been there for lunch too. also like their fixed lunch and dinner menus.

certainly recommend for people who like authentic chinese and looking for an experience beyond indianized manchurian/hakka noodle type of food that has become so popular in last few years.

waiting staff is very attentive and helpful.

one of the worst birthday experience till date. the stupid staff there served us non veg dim sum and after eating it they  didn't directly told us it was non-veg, they just told,'sir this might not be your order' it was after asking them was that non-veg they told yes. we all  were pure veg and eating non veg felt disgusted and really bad experience. as it was my birthday i didn't wanted to fight and spoil the ambiance but this is not done. my friend is also thinking of suing china house and i have the bill copy in which they have stated the non-veg dim sum. i suggest you try some other place for good chinese food.

they've got everything from duck to shrimp all nicely prepared in good indian-chinese style-
pick up your chopsticks and dive in!

summers in ahmedabad are not for the faint hearted. the sun god strikes with a venomous vengeance for at least 2-3 months starting april. this summer was particularly fierce!

sunshine radiance lost all radiance and at first sign of a break took refuge in the cool confines and snow of the upper himalayas. fz too followed suit. the restaurants in ahmedabad lost key business as a result!:) however all good vacations come to an end and we are back in business!

china house at the hyatt regency, ashram road, first visited in november of last year merited a second visit. the restaurant is located on the second floor of the hotel. the decor is superb with different dining areas giving a sense of privacy. the glass walled kitchen is in the centre. there is an open terrace which might be of interest when the weather cools down (!!). very aesthetically designed indeed. instead of flower pots there are pots full of dry red chilies, walnuts, etc.

feng shui in the designing maybe?

afternoon lunch meant that there were buffet combos. three different options were available. we chose the middle one - soup, starter, main course, dessert. they were kind enough to allow us to select different items for each course. hence we could try out 8 different items. all this of course washed down with a pot of pearl jasmine tea which has become standard practice when we eat chinese.

the theme is sichuan but lack of menu options in the fixed menu prevented a proper tasting of authentic sichuan delicacies. left for a later date though when we go ala carte.

from the options available we ordered two clear vegetable soups. one with glass noodles and the other with bok choy and vegetables. nothing much to write home about the soups, though the tofu deserves mention.

the starters ordered were vegetable spring rolls with bamboo shoots and fungus plus the mixed crystal vegetable dumplings.
these were excellent..

the mains were accompanied by rice and noodles. sweet and sour crisp vegetables and mushrooms in a tangy sauce. the noodles were good but the rice was just about okay.

the desserts were the highlight! green tea icecream and jasmine tearamisu!
the green tea icecream is a world apart and fz could've had 5 scoops on a good day! that speaks volumes. the tiramisu, rich, delectable.

the lunch ended on a high coz of the excellence of the desserts.
almost two well spent hours!

cheers!

yesterday i went to china house for my second visit. i am blown away by the authenticity of taste and great menu offered.

the ambience is really upmarket and it is one of my favorites.

i highly recommend the bok choy dim sum which has great flavour and a hint of wasabi. also try the dan dan noodles in spicy broth.

only thing i would like them to improve would be the sauces and accompaniment that they serve with the dim sums.

overall a great experience and well worth the visit.

the best place for chinese food in ahmedabad. hell, its my favourite restaurant period.
given its really pricey, but the ambience and the staff, coupled with the food make it worth the money.
ask to be seated facing the pool. if you're out for lunch, it'll feel like you've escaped ahmedabad into a serene atmosphere. the place has really chill vibes.
the food is just superb. actual chinese chefs prepare amazing sichuan and cantonese cuisine. unlike most places, the mocktails (yeah gujarat, i know) are actually amazing. do not miss the waitan cooler.
as for the dimsums, even meat lovers should order the crystal veg dimsums, they're to die for. the last time i went with family, we had 6 plates of dimsums scattered throughout the meal amongst 5 people, that's how good it was.
meats are cooked to perfection. a lot of restaurants in ahmedabad can grill well, a few can pan sear meats well, but when it comes to poaching chicken to perfection, no one comes close to china house.
as for dessert, do not miss the jasmine tea-ramisu, which is a tiramisu loaded with jasmine flavored cream finished with macha green tea. trust me, order one per person, its too good to share.
keep up the good work guys, hope to see more restaurants of the same standard as yours in ahmedabad.
