apple cake tea room

very disappointed..my mother sister niece and i have madeapplecake tea room a lunch stop destination every mothers day and birthday for almost 15 years now but recently (and it could be the economy or a bad day), the food was quite bland, lacking the usual high quality freshness we came to love.the servings were meager and overall stale.still, we hope it was just a bad day so we can return and enjoy the b&b country charm we knew it to be from previous visits.

this place needs some updates, not talking about the place, it's interesting with collections of everything. the food was kind of s&s cafeteria like. stuck in the past. that's fine for the decor but what was a special menu 30 years ago not so much today. the potato soup was delicious and creamy but you better like celery. the fruit is not fresh. the "glaze" is pie filling, so of course the seven-year-old loved it. the chicken salad was very plain nothing special about it. the chips were just plain wavy potato chips out of the bag. the complimentary bran muffin that was brought in the beginning was a really nice touch but i expected somethingapplesince its in the name.

apple cake. i love theirapplecake. i have madeapplecake but the cake they serve you can't find any apples. i don't understand that. it is great. maybe some of you real good cooks can explain that to me. :-)

love this charming restaurant!!. my sisters and i, and many of my friends, have enjoyed this quaint and delicious eatery for years! every time my younger sister comes to town, it's a must-have and makes top priority on our list of things to do! the food, as always, is incredible! chicken salad on a croissant with a side of the banana nut bread with cream cheese is our fav. and of course, the friendship tea~it really sums up what theapplecake tea room is all about! we are always greeted with a warm welcome and the and service is excellent. we have made many precious memories here with friends and family over the years~celebrating birthdays, graduations & friendships. now that we have kids of our own, we enjoy bringing them to our favorite tea room and making new memories over tea and lunch!

no small children wanted???. my husband and i recently moved back to the knoxville area from georgia. we are both professionals while i am currently staying home with our two children (5 yrs and a baby). we went to eat at theapplecake tea room several times since we moved here and my in laws enjoyed going when they were in town. the first time we went we learned that they only had a hot dog and pbj of which my daughter eats neither so she sat patiently and waited for the grown ups to eat. we have no family here so we recently brought in something for my daughter to eat so that my husband and i could still come to eat at this restaurant. we had done this before as we called and they told us to bring her food with us and we would have to sit in a designated area. after lunch, the waitress informed us that the owner had charged us a fee for our child to eat the food we brought. i went to the owner and she proceeded to tell me how horrible the children make messes in her restaurant with the brought in food and i assumed that is why she charges a fee. she said i will remove the fee this time but you do not know how messy it gets with these children. the owner stated that many children bring in food and i sensed this was irritating to her. i suggested maybe she could expand her children's menu. she stated she cannot please everyone and the fee was nominal. i will not return due to the principal of the matter and it is such a shame since our family enjoyed it previously. i do not feel like the owner or her front-end staff really desires children in their establishment. the reason i state this is due to when we came in and politely stated our daughter brought food as to sit in the designated area, whispering started and i was told it was going to be quite a wait. this critique is for all of us who have children who like more of a choice than a hot dog and pbj and enjoy feeling welcome where we are spending our money.

cozy and quaint atmosphere coupled with quality service makes theapplecake tea room one of my favorite eateries in knox! the chicken salad is a must!! try it paired w/ layered salad and twice baked potato for a real treat!
