had the chance of eating at this little gem while visiting atlanta for some baseball games.  we visited the battery location which was just perfect!  we sat at the outside bar area because the weather was so perfect that day! foodand service was excellent!  we shared the napoletana pizza which was amazing!  we had never had broccoli on pizza before and it is definitely something that will be revisited because it was delicious!  great atmosphere also and we will definitely be back!

internationally acclaimed pizza in atlanta, ga?  yep...it exists.  italy's own festa della pizza, held annually in the birthplace of pizza near naples , recognized antico for its award-winning take on tradition earlier this fall, naming it as a top in class pizzeria.  recommended by one of ud's colleagues (who lives in the area), we all converged on this renowned palace of pizza on black friday.  speaking of black friday, if you don't like fighting crowds for bargains, i'm guessing you won't enjoy fighting crowds for the limited communal seating in the "dining" room of this establishment (more than a couple of brawls were narrowly aborted as diners jockeyed for spots at the indoor picnic tables almost before they were fully vacated by their occupants).  i haven't had the stamina for that since my college days, but i will admit that the pizza was exceptional and extremely reminiscent of what we enjoyed when touring the amalfi coast (just outside of naples) a couple of years ago.  that said, i got a sense that the pies were being rushed out of wood-fired ovens to meet the demands of the relentless queue of gaping maws, as the crusts were not as crispy as i expected, nor were the cheesy centers as warm. since we arrived about an hour before our dining companions and i was already famished, we ordered a couple of beverages at the counter (yes, you place your order from the limited menu at a counter, you are given a number, and thefoodfinds you when it's ready) along with what we thought would be a small snack to tide us over.  because it was barely noon (the overwhelming crush of humanity didn't arrive until after 1:00) we were able to nibble on the mastadoneon cheese calzone while perched on stools flanking a very narrow bar in the entry foyer of the pizzeria.  this monster was quite the rustic beast, with mozzarella, ricotta, and fresh basil oozing from its golden brown exterior.  marinara sauce for dipping was tangy and delish. once the rest of the gang showed up,

pleasantly surprised. i love my pizza, especially neapolitan pizza. originally, wanted to go to verrazano pizza, but didn't know they were closed for lunch so checked this place out. happy i did, was impressed with the quality of true wood fired oven pizza. prices were a bit high but one pizza serves 2 or 3 people so it was ok. staff was reasonably polite andfoodserved promptly. will go again

service so rude it ruined the whole experience.sitting outside at little italia was nice but the service to order the pizza at antico was horrible and the service to order drinks at little itlaia was terrible. servers acted like they did not want to be there and i was wasting their time.foodwas okay but no different than digiorno pizza or at least fellini's pizza. not impressed.

pizza nirvana. took the opportunity to visit antico recently when some friends were visiting from out of town. their favouritefoodis pizza and they had recently enjoyed john's pizza in ny (the one in the old church just off times square) 3 times over 5 days so competition was tight. we went there on a week day somewhere around 4:00 pm so antico was pretty quiet. the girls at the front were fine, i don't "get" all the negative comments about them - i'm a big believer in you get what you give - we were friendly and polite and they were too. we were lucky enough to get a table right by the kitchen and enjoyed watching the boys make the pizza in front of us. we timed them, each pizza was in the oven for 90 seconds. we had the diavola, the funghi, and the lasagna pizzas. i can't talk about the diavola, i'm generally not a fan of processed meats, but the others said it was fabulous. the funghi and the lasagna were perfect, simple as that. some edges of the pizza were charred, personally i enjoy that. we didn't feel rushed or unwelcome, we finished our pizza, and packed up what was left to take home. by the time we left just after 5:00 the queue was just about to start buzzing. i can't even think about visiting our local suburban johnny's now, from this point on pizza night involves a journey into the city.

overhype!!. i've read a lot about this place as antico has become one of the local media darlings within the atlantafoodscene. went here with my wife and one of my kids on a saturday arriving to a full parking lot at about 12:10 pm. after finding a spot, we walked into a packed full place. the place is quite small and it was certainly standing room only. it was clear we weren't going to get a seat, but since we were here we were all game on trying the pizza so we ordered one to go. i wanted to order a simple pepperoni and sausage (due to child's palate) but they refused without reason, only saying in soup nazi fashion "one meat per pizza!" - i assumed that perhaps they felt more than one meat might make the pizza too greasy. i'll buy that train of thought, but i don't know since i didn't get a clear answer from them. so i ordered a margherita with pepperoni, which they allowed me to do. pizza was a pricey $23. ordered 3 cokes as well - stay clear of these! it will set you back $2.75 each for a cute, little 8.5 oz bottle of coke. so we stood in a standing room only place, filled mainly with 20 somethings, whom likely for many were ready and willing to add antico to their already bulging credit card statements. our number is called quickly (it only takes 60 seconds for their pizzas to cook) and out the door we go, walking out with pizza raised above my head so that i could get out the door. at this point, we are still very optimistic about the pizza we are about to eat. opening the pizza box on the trunk of the car, standing up in the parking lot, we dive into the pizza. the pizza had good flavor, but not great flavor. the pepperoni (admittedly our choice) made it quite greasy. the pizza also could have been cooked another 15 seconds as the crust was just starting to tan. overall, i would give the following ratings: pizza flavor: average, experience: below average, prices/value: ridiculously high. it is always interesting to me how hype and trends blossom. i believe that many times people jump on board because they want to be with the latest trend and don't want to be on the outside looking in. but why convince yourself something is great when it really isn't? it's all about personal preference, but many people so often get caught up in hype (pet rock anyone?). and with most overhypedfoodestablishments, like this one, i don't get it. and in the end, i don't care either. let those spend their money where they want. i'll continue to follow flavor and experience by voting with my wallet.

burnt pizza. it was my families first time at antico's pizza last night, we were so excited to eat the best pizza in atlanta. until we got home with our take out box to find that the pizza was burnt to a crisp. couldn't enjoy the pizza one bit and forget trying to eat my favorite part, the crust that tasted like charcoal.. so disappointed, yes i ate it and so did my family. we don't believe in wastingfoodor money. but i honestly feel as if we got robbed for our $24 dollars. never will eat here again!!!!

food critics have no credibility. if this is what thefoodcritics call a good pizza experience then someone is being paid off or i went to the wrong restaurant. my wife and i went to antico's about 1:00 last monday with high expectations based on several reviews including georgia traveler. we ordered the san gennaro, an italian sausage pizza for $21 and a 8 oz coke for $2.75. the staff was no help at all and was quite rude. no adds, changes or deletions are allowed, sort of like the soup nazi. the pizza arrived in only 5 min but was cold and soggy. i have had pizza in rome italy and this was not it. since they do not make pizzas to order this one must have been sitting around for a while. we wanted to tell someone so we could get it heated up but there is no wait staff at all and no customer service and they do not care. i guess this is what they call low urban trendy. i call it a really bad dining experience. i cannot say enough bad things about this place. do not go there....unless you like arrogant staff, bad atmosphere, loud mexican music, overpriced food, and cold soggy pizza. if only the pizza had been good you might overlook all the other short comings. as we were leaving we saw the owner leave in his new black mercedes. that says it all....boy were we taken. repeat....avoid this place.

antico, the famed pizzeria napoletana found in midtown atlanta, has proven to have the best classic naples style pizza in the state of georgia by many a critic. its theme is simple; let thefooddo the talking. with all ingredients shipped in from napoli and campania, italy, (including the 10,000 lbs. ovens) the focus is obvious; they are all about authenticity. don’t get me wrong; i love the minimalist italian themed package. the simply italian inspired color palet

i've been going to antico for some time now.... i am really writing this review to point out something that other reviewers seem to be missing.

the pizza from antico is soft on the inside of the pizza because that is how napoletana pizzas are constructed. they are supposed to be eaten using the "wallet" method. the pizza from antico is fantastic, albeit a bit expensive, but the most exceptional dining experience there can only be reached if you understand what sort of pizza you are getting yourself in to. if you are expecting a cardboard bottom that is stiff as a board, then you are going to have a bad time.

if you review this restaurant and claim to have had a bad experience because the pizza was "soggy" in the middle, then you have no one to blame but yourself for not understanding thefoodyou are eating.

charred pizza crust is what people are raving about?!?!. i brought a pie home, tried to eat it, and couldn't get the burnt taste out of my mouth! i called, asked if "burnt/charred" crust is the style they make it in, and they said to just come back and talk to gio the owner. i did and then looked around and everyone's pizza was cooked like that with burnt outer crust and bottoms. they were all nice and they made another a pie, although i said that is the style and their is no need. i wanted to pay for just what i tried to eat and have them refund the rest. i knew the second would be the same, and it was. i could sense this was not even close to the first time they went through this. the place is great for people who are used to eatingfoodburnt (not cooked) buy their mom or dad, or both, their whole life. gio is ingenious because he knows his atlanta yuppie, horrible taste bud, burntfoodliking crowd! cheers to a very smart and calculated set up and to a man who knows that white, middle america has horrendous taste infood. he makes a thriving business on it and this is the essence of american opportunity. or, as p.t. barnum said it best, "there's a sucker born every minute!" on a positive note, the place and atmosphere is great and the pizza probably would be amazing if they simply scrapped the ovens clean through out the day of all that char like 99.9% of good pizzerias do. but then they would lose their crowd, i'm guessing.

why do people keep going here??. antico was raved about so, i had to try it. drove in from the burbs for a birthday treat with family. parked aways away and walked, ( lovely night) waited in line outside (not bad, i can deal with that). placed our order; pricey for two pizzas and no drinks ( but we had our wine!). as we stood waiting for a table for four, a server brought us our pizza! burnt crust; yesm burnt so as to be uneatable (crust is my favorite part, but i said nothing as the others oohed and ahhed over the smell, the look etc. ok, i'm sure it'll be fine!) we continued to scan the place for a spot for four to sit and eat; nothing! one in our group asked a server if we could sit at the table in the back room as ourfoodwas getting cold! she said she would go ask. several more minutes go by...she returns, takes our pizzas and leads un into the back area: "dough room". ok, only benches for two , the other tow had to stand, but hey, this is antico! it's gotta be worth it , right? unique roome, flour bags, scales, blah, blah, blh, i'm starving already! pizza? cold! burt crust! i'm telling my son it's good, after all this was his idea and he's beginning to feel bad about it! no problem, neat experience! not five minutes in the room, a big very sweaty man (owner i guessed from his attitude) came in and said" can't you read "private"? referring to the sing on the door. we all smiled and nodded and said "yes! thank you! " as though he was trying to let us know in his very crude way how lucky we were to have this spot! he then said angrily, i'm not saying your welcome, this is a private room! i then told him we had been brought to the room by his server! we did not just barge in and take the table! "

she doesn't speak a word of english, he said. "hurry up it's reserved, you've got 30 minutes", and left. at this point i was flabbergasted! no apology ( i understand there are misunderstandings and mangement needs to deal with these things, but this guy was rude and insulting! ) in about 5 minutes he came back and said, "this is bad. i've got people coming all the way from italy for this table." ( sure...) they're on the way. you have to leave now." he then threw a fifty at me, and left. my son called after him, can we at least get a box? we grabbed a box and headed out.. the worst restaurant (i use the term loosely... very loosely) experience i've ever had in atlanta! this guys got something going for him, but it's not the pizza or the service, so i'm baffled...he's way over occupancy, so why does the fire marshall not check this? the cop outside told us we could walk down the street with our wine ( isn't that illegal? i asked him and he said don't worry about it...if anyone stops you just tell them i said it was ok). bad...none of us will go back and we will tell our story about antico!
