beautiful space bad management. went to virago on a friday, around 6 pm. no one was sitting outside, asked if our party could be seated outside, one host said yes one said no. hmmm. so ultimately we sat at a table outside, 5 people. immediately a server demanded to know why were sitting at the table and who said we could. we told them the host, to which he replied which one. really? has anyone heard the way to win customers is be nice and accommodating? within minutes a wormy guy in a suit came out and introduced himself as the manager and he "needed to inform us" that 5people are not allowed at this table but....he will allow it. against my wishes we stayed. the food was great, our server was great despite spilling a tray of full champaign glasses on a member of our party. if you want to go to virago demand good and polite service. they need to learn that being nice is how to run a business not the elitist snobbery they preformed before my party.

great night out. i wanted to come here for my birthday. we made reservations and walked straight to our table when we walked in. the atmosphere is the first thing you'll notice - it was very trendy, the service was fantastic, and i very much enjoyed every second.

we had the lobster shooters (lobster bites were disappointingly small, so be prepared that it's just soup), were were a bit disppointed in our appetizer, so we also got the mushroom and prawn robatayaki (mushroom was our fav, both were small), my boyfriend got the shanton udon (duck meatballs - this was fantastic, but presentation was unexpected - it was soup!), and i got the bomb made extra spicy (amazing roll, but $20 for a small 8-piece sushi roll? disappointed.).

you can get more sushi for your money many other places, but it's worth a trip for the entire experience - if you're prepared to pay a lot for it. i'll go back, but it won't be for the sushi alone.

unexpected ambience. we were seated in a small wood-paneled room off of the main dining room. in its relatively dark interior, the calm image of a landscape remained static on a giant flatscreen behind my dinner companions and about 6 feet from my face. after our orders were taken, the screen jumped to life with alabama football flashing like a cluster of patrol cars. i was told it could not be turned off because one of the other 10 or so diners in the little room had requested it. what i had mistaken for a restaurant with a cool asian vibe was in actuality the man-cave of joe the plumber! the dining experience was a success in that i managed a few bites of my entree and indeed, did not have a light induced seizure. from now on, when i'm in the mood for asian food, i'll be heading for charlotte ave., where restaurants know how to put a television in its proper place.

not special. had a group meet at virago to celebrate a friend's birthday - and was embarrassed by the end. 1) we are in nashville, not chicago or new york. the sushi was good but the prices are ridiculous. $45 for a beer, a roll and an appetizer is insane. 2) it would have been great to have the hostess tell us before taking the cupcakes we brought and sitting down that they would later charge a $25 "cake fee" to deliver them to our table with no plates, no service, etc. 3) our waiter was inept, mixed up orders, reached across guests constantly and was plain rude. thanks for vacuuming near the birthday girl as she tried to take pictures with her friends.

all in all, virago was anything but classy and lost a chance to impress a dozen 20-somethings (who i assume they are trying to appeal to?)...

great food and great service. visited virago for the very first time tonight. chris was our server. he was very knowledgeable and helped us sift through the extensive menu. he had some great suggestions for sake and cocktails as well as apps and entrees. he was attentive and quick with every step of his service and deserves to be commended.

as for the food, all i can say is wow!!! i highly recommend the thai curry lobster shooters. that was probably the single best curry i've ever had! the mune (grilled chicken) and the pork (i forget the name of the dish, but it came with an incredible soy/dr. pepper reduction!!!) were both cooked perfectly. the aloha roll was wonderful as well.

when it was time for dessert, we had our eye on the chocolate between the sheets. it was a brownie with molten chocolate wrapped in puff pastry and baked! super awesome, and even though i should have said , "no," to dessert, i have no regrets.

next time i'm in nashville i will definitely return to virago. i recommend it to anyone looking for a cool atmosphere and great food.

will not go back! you will pay for a beautiful atmospher, but you can get much better sushi all over nashville. our server said items could be made with specific ingredients, only to come back and say no they couldn't. one of our rolls was dropped on the floor at our table - it was remade of course, but no offer for comp or discount of any kind. our server offered to waive the $20 fee for bringing our own dessert for the birthday we were there to celebrate, only to have a manager come to our table and say that he never approved that (we had to take our dessert outside after paying our bill). i high hopes, but was beyond disappointed in several ways.

you are paying for the atmosphere and paying dearly....the food is nothing special. their attempts at creativity miss the mark. (they have a fruit cocktail with peppercorn on the rim) go somewhere else.

food was excellent, nice atmosphere. the young guy hosting needs to can the attitude, it's nashville, not ny or la. the food and service overcame the poor reception our large party received - we almost walked out, glad we didn't!

messed up birthday. can i do a minus 1. it was my birthday, supposed to be a very special sunday evening. started off very nicely with the offer of all wines half-price. we picked a nice wine then the server says "well not that wine". okay so then we finish dinner then the server says we will comp desert since we didn't live up to our wine promise. oops only one desert is comped the other one is regular price. never going back to a restaurant that makes a promise and back peddles. back to watermark - still the best in the gulch

best sushi in nashville!. i have to say i was a bit partial to the old virago as far as atmosphere...and i went there often so i was used to it. new virago is wide open which i didn't like at first, then i liked and then i didn't like. i do, however, love the patio seating...and i love the bartendars and the food is amazing. i think i need to sit at a round booth instead of the bar and maybe i will like the atmosphere more. i def. do not like the barstools...they have a low back which is weird and also they are too close tot he top of the bar so you can't cross your legs..and i am not tall. oh well...everyone else loves it, i'm just used to the coziness of the old virago. get the lobster shooters and the bomb. yum! still one of my top 3 places to dine!

great atmosphere, good sushi. we recently visited virago while in nashville after reading the reviews here first. we were going on our anniversary and so were pleased with it as a memorable place. it was a little crowded and trendy, but to us it was in a healthy "hustle and bustle" sort of way that made us enjoy being out on the town. i really liked the kiwi cucumber cocktail i had and i loved the sushi, though my husband said it was good, not exceptional. i loved the feel of the building and the decor and ambiance of the place.
