virago

it is upsetting to even have to write a review like this on a place that was once a favorite. my husband and i have been going to virago for 8+ years evenbackwhen it was on division street. we have always said it was "hands down" the best sushi. we have always recommended virago to visitors of nashville. tonight...i do not know what happened. if one thing was wrong it would be understandable to have an "off" night but this just snowballed into a bad experience all around. my husband and i ordered appetizer, several rolls, and drinks. the waitress was not friendly by all means. she was cold and not professional.the sushi last night was "sub par" definitely not virago. this was the first time this has occurred and we just went with it. we are not ones to complain normally at any eating establishment. my husband ordered a different cocktail to try and once they brought it out, he took one sip and realized it was not for him. it was not good at all. at this point he decided for once to inform the server to see if he could get something different. when the server was informed she point blank just stared at him. you would have thought he said the most offensive thing possible. she just looked at us with this face and replied "whats wrong with it?" we again informed her it was not good.. it did not taste right... something was off. she then said she would have to check with her manager. now let me say this.. i understand having to check with the manager but correct me if i am wrong... good service means making the customer (who is actually polite) feel comfortable and known that you will make it right. we sit and wait... she talks to the manager then walks off and talks to the manager again. at this point, the manager "cory" i believe that is what he said, confronts us in regards to the drink. instead of saying i am so sorry you did not like the drink what would you like in replacement... he proceeds in the most arrogant way to interrogate us about the drink and the flavors. to the point, no lie, he asked what the "taste notes or palate was in the drink". my husband and i were so uncomfortable and speechless at this point. he was relentless in wanting a perfect explanation as to why he did not like his drink. again, let me explain we are not ones to complain about anything and this was just beyond mind blowing. after giving the manager a few pointers about the drink he comped it and that was that. the server was never sincere afterwards and actually did not speak to us only to drop the check on the table. to further point out, we were surprised to see the place so dead.. and now it all makes sense as to why. my thoughts on virago.. disappointing, embarrassing, unprofessional. as gut wrenching as it is to say, we will not be back. i will not give this establishment another dime after our experience last night.

great place!. virago was recommended to us by the valet at our hotel when i asked about a good sushi place that would be a good place to take my clients. he was right. the food and service were both outstanding! the place is very trendy, but not stuck up. very high quality atmosphere, and extremely fresh fish. it's a fusion restaurant, so don't expect the "traditional" sushi stuff to be on the menu, but they can make whatever you like, if you prefer more simple and traditional sushi. i enjoyed the yellowtail, and the bomb roll, and of course, i had to ask for some quail egg shooters. the shooters were off menu, but they did an outstanding job with beautiful presentation and taste. i will definitely comebackthe next time i'm in nashville.

will not go back! you will pay for a beautiful atmospher, but you can get much better sushi all over nashville. our server said items could be made with specific ingredients, only to comebackand say no they couldn't. one of our rolls was dropped on the floor at our table - it was remade of course, but no offer for comp or discount of any kind. our server offered to waive the $20 fee for bringing our own dessert for the birthday we were there to celebrate, only to have a manager come to our table and say that he never approved that (we had to take our dessert outside after paying our bill). i high hopes, but was beyond disappointed in several ways.

messed up birthday. can i do a minus 1. it was my birthday, supposed to be a very special sunday evening. started off very nicely with the offer of all wines half-price. we picked a nice wine then the server says "well not that wine". okay so then we finish dinner then the server says we will comp desert since we didn't live up to our wine promise. oops only one desert is comped the other one is regular price. never goingbackto a restaurant that makes a promise andbackpeddles.backto watermark - still the best in the gulch

best sushi in nashville!. i have to say i was a bit partial to the old virago as far as atmosphere...and i went there often so i was used to it. new virago is wide open which i didn't like at first, then i liked and then i didn't like. i do, however, love the patio seating...and i love the bartendars and the food is amazing. i think i need to sit at a round booth instead of the bar and maybe i will like the atmosphere more. i def. do not like the barstools...they have a lowbackwhich is weird and also they are too close tot he top of the bar so you can't cross your legs..and i am not tall. oh well...everyone else loves it, i'm just used to the coziness of the old virago. get the lobster shooters and the bomb. yum! still one of my top 3 places to dine!

i have a new favorite restaurant, virago be thy name!. i can't say enough about this place. bravo! vegas style restaurant with food to die for!! i am not even a big sushi fan because i do not like nori but they will wrap your maki in soy paper to cutbackon that salty fishy taste which just makes the maki delectable. i had the kayne prime roll. it was heavenly. try anything on the japanese roboto grill. best edaname ever! lobster shooters are awesome. cocktails were dynamite. everything from the ambiance, service, food quality, cocktails, wine list, even price, is just spot on. we will return again and again.

my new craving..... i have never liked sushi and have never planned on liking it either. i have been to virago more than a few times throughout the years and have always enjoyed the ambiance of the place. however, i always got the stone steak (absolutely fabulous) as part of my refusal to eat raw anything. last week i tried the sushi here for the first time and i must admit (much to my dismay) that it was absolutely wonderful!!! thank you virago for making my first experience so great and i will definitely bebackfor seconds!!!

great place!. the best of both worlds - sushi and a good atmosphere! i love sushi and this place had great sushi! but the atmosphere had me sold! such a great place to hang out. when i headbackto nashville, i will definitely be going back!
