trendy vibe, bad food.. the last time i had been toviragowas in the original location, and i was very impressed. the sushi was fresh, and inventive, and even though the location was a bit eclectic, it was uniquely virago.
while the gulch location is an incredibly beautiful example of what a nashville restaurant can be, the core of whatviragoused to be, the sushi, was over priced and very disappointing. the rice was sour, and the scallop nigiri i had was not cleaned properly (still had grit in it) and was dry- like it had been prepared ahead of time and had sat out for a while. i made a crucial mistake when i ordered the fried oyster hand roll. i overlooked the fact that it also contained smoked ham and pickled okra on it. the ham and okra completely overpowered the oysters and left a bad aftertaste on my palette.the combination is one that i can only describe as one i would not order again. ever.
the wine list had some great selections (especially for a sushi restaurant), however they were priced at 2.5 to 3 times what you could buy them in the store.
the staff were very attentive and provided great, friendly service.
overall, my experience atviragowas aesthetically pleasing, culinarily underwhelming and financially overinflated.
