great sushi and great environment. good for datenightand in a great location. so if you want to hit the bar or lounge afterwards they are within walking distance. great for a date night. sushi is great. i only compare it to fin fusion in murfreesboro. eventually will try some of the other sushi places in town that are rated higher and i will uncover the truth. between virago and fin fusion these other places better bring their a game or i will happily give them the score they truly deserve.

it is upsetting to even have to write a review like this on a place that was once a favorite. my husband and i have been going to virago for 8+ years even back when it was on division street. we have always said it was "hands down" the best sushi. we have always recommended virago to visitors of nashville. tonight...i do not know what happened. if one thing was wrong it would be understandable to have an "off"nightbut this just snowballed into a bad experience all around. my husband and i ordered appetizer, several rolls, and drinks. the waitress was not friendly by all means. she was cold and not professional.the sushi lastnightwas "sub par" definitely not virago. this was the first time this has occurred and we just went with it. we are not ones to complain normally at any eating establishment. my husband ordered a different cocktail to try and once they brought it out, he took one sip and realized it was not for him. it was not good at all. at this point he decided for once to inform the server to see if he could get something different. when the server was informed she point blank just stared at him. you would have thought he said the most offensive thing possible. she just looked at us with this face and replied "whats wrong with it?" we again informed her it was not good.. it did not taste right... something was off. she then said she would have to check with her manager. now let me say this.. i understand having to check with the manager but correct me if i am wrong... good service means making the customer (who is actually polite) feel comfortable and known that you will make it right. we sit and wait... she talks to the manager then walks off and talks to the manager again. at this point, the manager "cory" i believe that is what he said, confronts us in regards to the drink. instead of saying i am so sorry you did not like the drink what would you like in replacement... he proceeds in the most arrogant way to interrogate us about the drink and the flavors. to the point, no lie, he asked what the "taste notes or palate was in the drink". my husband and i were so uncomfortable and speechless at this point. he was relentless in wanting a perfect explanation as to why he did not like his drink. again, let me explain we are not ones to complain about anything and this was just beyond mind blowing. after giving the manager a few pointers about the drink he comped it and that was that. the server was never sincere afterwards and actually did not speak to us only to drop the check on the table. to further point out, we were surprised to see the place so dead.. and now it all makes sense as to why. my thoughts on virago.. disappointing, embarrassing, unprofessional. as gut wrenching as it is to say, we will not be back. i will not give this establishment another dime after our experience last night.

great sushi. went lastnightand the sushi was great. we had a couple different rolls but the bomb was my favorite. go on monday because some of the rolls are half price and that is always clutch. definitely go if you are in nashville and if you like sushi!

greatnightout. i wanted to come here for my birthday. we made reservations and walked straight to our table when we walked in. the atmosphere is the first thing you'll notice - it was very trendy, the service was fantastic, and i very much enjoyed every second.

we had the lobster shooters (lobster bites were disappointingly small, so be prepared that it's just soup), were were a bit disppointed in our appetizer, so we also got the mushroom and prawn robatayaki (mushroom was our fav, both were small), my boyfriend got the shanton udon (duck meatballs - this was fantastic, but presentation was unexpected - it was soup!), and i got the bomb made extra spicy (amazing roll, but $20 for a small 8-piece sushi roll? disappointed.).

you can get more sushi for your money many other places, but it's worth a trip for the entire experience - if you're prepared to pay a lot for it. i'll go back, but it won't be for the sushi alone.

the food was fantastic!. we took a party of 10 on a saturdaynightand everything was perfect. our reservations let us walk in the door and sit down at our table. no wait! most of our group had sushi and i had the steak and potatoes. even the valet attendants were wonderful. great place to go for a casual, upbeatnighton the town.

love the food, hate the atmosphere. virago has, hands-down, the best non-traditional sushi in nashville. their emphasis is not on your run-of-the-mill cali rolls and crunchy shrimp, but on innovative and original fusion creations that you're not likely to find anywhere else. plenty of fresh creations abound that will keep even the most jaded sushi connoisseur from being bored.

that said, the atmosphere and crowd here are the pits. the restaurant is usually overly dim, overly crowded, overly slow. while the food is worth the wait, that doesn't make the wait any more reasonable or explicable. the crowd itself is typically pretentious enough to make any given spot in hillsboro village seem down to earth and laid back. (as my partner puts it, you walk into virago, and the place absolutely reeks of credit card debt.)

the bottom line is that virago is definitely worth checking out, but go on anightthat's not a normal hit-the-town evening to avoid the mob.
