excellent food and service. if my wife and i lived in nashville we would visit thisplaceoften. the service was great. our waiter gave us great recommendations. the sushi rolls were top notch. my wife does not like nori so they substituted soy wraps instead.

it is upsetting to even have to write a review like this on aplacethat was once a favorite. my husband and i have been going to virago for 8+ years even back when it was on division street. we have always said it was "hands down" the best sushi. we have always recommended virago to visitors of nashville. tonight...i do not know what happened. if one thing was wrong it would be understandable to have an "off" night but this just snowballed into a bad experience all around. my husband and i ordered appetizer, several rolls, and drinks. the waitress was not friendly by all means. she was cold and not professional.the sushi last night was "sub par" definitely not virago. this was the first time this has occurred and we just went with it. we are not ones to complain normally at any eating establishment. my husband ordered a different cocktail to try and once they brought it out, he took one sip and realized it was not for him. it was not good at all. at this point he decided for once to inform the server to see if he could get something different. when the server was informed she point blank just stared at him. you would have thought he said the most offensive thing possible. she just looked at us with this face and replied "whats wrong with it?" we again informed her it was not good.. it did not taste right... something was off. she then said she would have to check with her manager. now let me say this.. i understand having to check with the manager but correct me if i am wrong... good service means making the customer (who is actually polite) feel comfortable and known that you will make it right. we sit and wait... she talks to the manager then walks off and talks to the manager again. at this point, the manager "cory" i believe that is what he said, confronts us in regards to the drink. instead of saying i am so sorry you did not like the drink what would you like in replacement... he proceeds in the most arrogant way to interrogate us about the drink and the flavors. to the point, no lie, he asked what the "taste notes or palate was in the drink". my husband and i were so uncomfortable and speechless at this point. he was relentless in wanting a perfect explanation as to why he did not like his drink. again, let me explain we are not ones to complain about anything and this was just beyond mind blowing. after giving the manager a few pointers about the drink he comped it and that was that. the server was never sincere afterwards and actually did not speak to us only to drop the check on the table. to further point out, we were surprised to see theplaceso dead.. and now it all makes sense as to why. my thoughts on virago.. disappointing, embarrassing, unprofessional. as gut wrenching as it is to say, we will not be back. i will not give this establishment another dime after our experience last night.

pretentious snobs. my friend and i were looking forward to this gulch hotspot. we were very disappointed as we barely got in the door and were already dealing with insults from rude customers and staff. my husband ( who was dressed appropriately) was asked to remove his hat ( ut vols) after being given the disapproving head to toe, something smells bad look from the anorexic 20 something hostess with too much eyeliner and not enough clothes. fine, no hats is the policy that was fine. we were told we could wait the hour wait in the bar. there was noplaceto stand or sit at all in the bar, but we did notice not one but 2 hip looking rapper types cruise by with their hats on after my vols fan husband was asked to remove his hat. when i left our drinkless spot in the corner where the less young and less hip people are allowed to crave acceptance, i asked about their policy and why it only applies to us on this night. a patron walking by overheard me and said " cuz larry the cable guy ain't welcome here mam"! the anorexic nymph giggled as did her twin waitress slinking by us....we were humiliated, embarrassed and not about to spend a dime in that nasty, pretentious place. so, if you are looking for a comfortableplacethat welcomes your money even though you are not 23, trying to impress strangers and actually are somebody , do not go to this place. it was an awful evening thanks to the staff at virago.

rude & snooty. my girlfriends & i were very excited to have a couple of drinks & apps at this new "trendy" restaurant - however, from the moment we walked in the door, the hostesses & 1 waiter & 1 waitress in the bar area couldn't have acted more rude & snooty towards us. we left without ordering anything! you may be the new hipplaceto go but that gives you no right to treat people in this manner. this is not the onlyplacein town that serves sushi, therefore, i will not return.

and i don't usually like sushi!. i'm not a huge sushi fan, but thisplacewas awesome. i had the korean bbq roll, which i loved! there's plenty of options and fusion for those who aren't into sushi, and there are both raw and cooked sushi options available. i think it would be the perfectplacefor a girls' dinner out or date night.

nice place, service was bad. went there a couple of weeks ago during a bachelorette party, first of all when we arrived the guy at the door acted like we didn't belong there. once we were seated, the waiter would not serve one of the women because he thought she was drunk & then carded another of the women twice...once when she ordered her drink and then after he brought it. our food wasn't brought to us at the same time so one person didn't receive her food until all of us were done eating. next, the waiter then asked how much another of the women that was with us how many drinks she had...what damn difference did it make? he wasn't asking any of the other tables that and they all had bottles of wine and other drinks at their table. needless to say, this was a very unpleasant for all of us and especially the bride-to-be. we spent lots of money at thisplacefor sucky service and what made it worse is that gratuity was already included so he got his money regardless. maybe that's why he treated us like that. i did speak to the manager and she did compensate us with free dessert, but that wasn't enough.

cheesy. my very first impression was that thisplacewas cheesy and trying way too hard. we,like another reviewer, were told it was an hour wait, but that we could sit at the sushi bar. my husband and i found two seats open and waited. we sat there a good period of time before a woman who worked there approached us and told us we would have to move. we were shocked as we were just told we could sit there and then we were getting moved! the woman was rude and it came across as very snobby. we decided to leave as we did not care for the service nor vibe from the moment we walked in the door. i normally do not go out of my way to write a review but this experience was that bad! i had no idea thisplacewas trying to be a club, too. it is apparent it is all about being seen and trying to show off. not a good dateplaceas my husband had read in a write up of the restuarant. if you want to go out have drinks and try to play the snobby game too, then thisplaceis for you. i found it cheesy and cool in a spray tanned, hair gelled sort of way. (at least that describes most of the men who work there)...i think you get my point. not my kind of place.

and yes to the review who wrote it reeks of credit card debt! ha! people trying a bit too hard. okay...way to hard. real style is not so contrived.

great place!. virago was recommended to us by the valet at our hotel when i asked about a good sushiplacethat would be a goodplaceto take my clients. he was right. the food and service were both outstanding! theplaceis very trendy, but not stuck up. very high quality atmosphere, and extremely fresh fish. it's a fusion restaurant, so don't expect the "traditional" sushi stuff to be on the menu, but they can make whatever you like, if you prefer more simple and traditional sushi. i enjoyed the yellowtail, and the bomb roll, and of course, i had to ask for some quail egg shooters. the shooters were off menu, but they did an outstanding job with beautiful presentation and taste. i will definitely come back the next time i'm in nashville.

funplaceto go. i was hesitant on going to virago as i am not a big fan of asian fusion foods. so i was very impressed when the first dish that came out which was the pistachio hamachi, was one of the best things i have ever tasted. the stone steak was entertaining to cook at the table on top of hot rocks. thewaygu beef really didn't need to be cooked because it was already full if flavor and was extremely tender. the sake brussels were okay and the asparagus bacon was okay but everything else made it a great experience!

get the bomb. i just moved to nashville 4 months ago...i heard from 3 people (in different circles) that this was theplaceto go for sushi. not much for the super trendy atmosphere, but the sushi was some of the best i have ever eaten. if you want to try and find a great sushiplacein nashville, you have to give thisplacea fair shake...all their stuff (from edamame to the sushi, to the chocolate between the sheets) was excellent. great service too.

always love virago. virago is a sleek and modern restaurant/bar with excellent food. it seems to be a see-and-be-seen place, but the most important thing is that the food truly is wonderful. the sushi rolls are fantastic and they also look beautiful when they are served. the godzilla roll and the dynamite roll are among my favorites. some may think it's a little pricey, but it is well worth the price. the food has always been hot and freshly made. they offer sushi rolls, sashimi, japanese dishes….and they also offer teriyaki sliders and onion rings on the menu. i've tried the sliders and onion rings and they are delicious as well! the downside is the wait time. each time i've been, there was a long wait for a table even with a reservation. the bar area is niceplaceto wait, but usually full of other people who are there to be seen and people who are waiting for a table. in my opinion it's well worth the wait. so i would say eat early to try to avoid it. it's not the friendliest place, but for the most part the staff is cordial. i've had very friendly servers there as well as some who are not so friendly.
