just not impressed. looked over them menu online beforehand and it appeared promising... however, i was just not impressed.
server was very nice and theatmospherewas cool... but i enjoyed the salad i had at lunch at big river brewery more than anything i tried here. sad.
maybe i'm over the sushi thing. maybe it would have been different in a large group where i could have tried a lot more variety. i wanted to like it, but no can do.

we enjoyed the virago experience and the service was great, as our server was very helpful and attentive. theatmospherelent itself to good conversation and i recommend virago highly for business dinners.

great night out. i wanted to come here for my birthday. we made reservations and walked straight to our table when we walked in. theatmosphereis the first thing you'll notice - it was very trendy, the service was fantastic, and i very much enjoyed every second.

we had the lobster shooters (lobster bites were disappointingly small, so be prepared that it's just soup), were were a bit disppointed in our appetizer, so we also got the mushroom and prawn robatayaki (mushroom was our fav, both were small), my boyfriend got the shanton udon (duck meatballs - this was fantastic, but presentation was unexpected - it was soup!), and i got the bomb made extra spicy (amazing roll, but $20 for a small 8-piece sushi roll? disappointed.).

you can get more sushi for your money many other places, but it's worth a trip for the entire experience - if you're prepared to pay a lot for it. i'll go back, but it won't be for the sushi alone.

great food and great service. visited virago for the very first time tonight. chris was our server. he was very knowledgeable and helped us sift through the extensive menu. he had some great suggestions for sake and cocktails as well as apps and entrees. he was attentive and quick with every step of his service and deserves to be commended.

as for the food, all i can say is wow!!! i highly recommend the thai curry lobster shooters. that was probably the single best curry i've ever had! the mune (grilled chicken) and the pork (i forget the name of the dish, but it came with an incredible soy/dr. pepper reduction!!!) were both cooked perfectly. the aloha roll was wonderful as well.

when it was time for dessert, we had our eye on the chocolate between the sheets. it was a brownie with molten chocolate wrapped in puff pastry and baked! super awesome, and even though i should have said , "no," to dessert, i have no regrets.

next time i'm in nashville i will definitely return to virago. i recommend it to anyone looking for a coolatmosphereand great food.

you are paying for theatmosphereand paying dearly....the food is nothing special. their attempts at creativity miss the mark. (they have a fruit cocktail with peppercorn on the rim) go somewhere else.

best sushi in nashville!. i have to say i was a bit partial to the old virago as far as atmosphere...and i went there often so i was used to it. new virago is wide open which i didn't like at first, then i liked and then i didn't like. i do, however, love the patio seating...and i love the bartendars and the food is amazing. i think i need to sit at a round booth instead of the bar and maybe i will like theatmospheremore. i def. do not like the barstools...they have a low back which is weird and also they are too close tot he top of the bar so you can't cross your legs..and i am not tall. oh well...everyone else loves it, i'm just used to the coziness of the old virago. get the lobster shooters and the bomb. yum! still one of my top 3 places to dine!

a nashville jewel. a fan of virago in the old location, i must say the new location (well newer--it's been there a while now) just takes it over the top. as someone with a gluten allergy, it is great to go to a sushi restaurant that has tamari and understands why i am requesting it. the food is amazing and fairly priced for the quality and the dining experience. the staff is wonderful, theatmosphereis as swank as it could possibly get, and i have never had a negative experience at this hot spot. oh--and the wok charred edamame? just stop!

nice + good.. virago is one of my favorite sushi places in nashville. theatmosphereis very nice and the sushi is amazing. the only con is if you're there for a vandy kid's birthday party (or any other kind of party), it can be loud and annoying.

love the food, hate the atmosphere. virago has, hands-down, the best non-traditional sushi in nashville. their emphasis is not on your run-of-the-mill cali rolls and crunchy shrimp, but on innovative and original fusion creations that you're not likely to find anywhere else. plenty of fresh creations abound that will keep even the most jaded sushi connoisseur from being bored.

that said, theatmosphereand crowd here are the pits. the restaurant is usually overly dim, overly crowded, overly slow. while the food is worth the wait, that doesn't make the wait any more reasonable or explicable. the crowd itself is typically pretentious enough to make any given spot in hillsboro village seem down to earth and laid back. (as my partner puts it, you walk into virago, and the place absolutely reeks of credit card debt.)

the bottom line is that virago is definitely worth checking out, but go on a night that's not a normal hit-the-town evening to avoid the mob.
