we were walking around asheville without a clue of where to go. tupelo honey looked inviting so we stopped there. we were warmly greeted and showed to a table immediately. servers with tables around us seemed very attentive. ours was not, she as clearly distracted by another table. we started off with some small plates and a margarita. there was nothing special about the salted beet salad or the scallops. they weren't bad just bland. the margarita wasn't to my liking and so instead of finishing our meal order we decided to try a different place. a lot of people did seem to enjoy their meals. between service and small plates it wasn't for us.

made our party of 6 wait two and a half hours for a table making no effort whatsoever to accomodate us until the lunch hour was coming to an end letting many smaller parties coming in after go ahead of us. i've never been in a restaurant where they did business like this. food very mediocre. a good mimosa which was definitely needed to cool my blood pressure. won't darken that door again.

great food and great people! their eggs benedict are great! perfectly poached with a light sauce. their orange juice is fresh and they have tumblers you can buy as a take home treasure! best breakfast place in town by far!

my boyfriend and i came here after a few friends recommended tupelo from their experience in virginia. we arrived, knowing it would be a wait. no problem. we've been on a culinary tour of the city & i was stoked to try this place.

we hopped in line & the guy ahead of us was told there was a 20 minute wait. when we stepped up next, i was told "1 hour 20 minutes." now, coming in there were 2 set & ready tables, and 1 that was waiting to be bussed. i declined the wait list and walked out confused.

the waiter outside asked as we passed his empty tables "leaving so soon" and we asked him were his tables reserved. he said they're first come basis, self seating outside and told us to tell the hostess to seat us outside since he's "wide open." i walked back in and reiterated this to the hostess who replied "i'm only one person" then asked if i wanted to get on the "1 hour" waiting list.

1 how did we get to 1 hour in under 2 minutes? 2 how did we get an hour longer wait than the guy ahead of us? 3 why wasn't she seating the waiter who was available and happy to serve during peak hours?? because they offer a vegetarian option in addition to all the meat for brunch, i could see this having been a possible favorite for us, but the first experience here was far too poor to ignore. i will not be returning.

extremely slow service and the place wasn't even busy. it took forever just to get drinks. when we finally ordered food we also waited for that forever. after the waiter said our food would be out in a minute he came back out to tell us he was out of fries and green beans. ten minutes later he comes out again and says he's out of the egg rolls which was my husbands order. if the food hadn't taken over an hour to come out from ordering maybe they wouldn't have run out.

any place that gives me a complimentary biscuit and blueberry jam and honey to mull over my meal choices is a winner with me! the fried green tomatoes taste very fresh, and the breakfasts we all ordered were very good. my goat cheese grits were a bit soupy and plain, but the jalapeño blt was good with crunchy sourdough and delicious bacon. the jalapeño aioli was a bit heavy, but i would get it on the side next time. a solid choice for good southern food, especially if it's new to you. the downtown location is pretty small and always busy, but the restaurant away from downtown is much larger and easier to handle with crowds and parking. either way, a good place to check out in asheville!

don't you just love the interior? this is my kinda place. parking around noon on saturday was non-existent in the lot behind the restaurant, but no worries. there's free on-street parking on the other side of the light rail. also, the 35-minute wait only ended up being 15 minutes. another score!

i was a little concerned because i read a review that they nickel and dime but i didn't find that to be the case at all. the restaurant itself is small and cute. we sat at the counter which i thought was going to be too hot but it wasn't. we started with the melted pimento cheese and tortilla chips. the cheese was like quest and i have never had pimento cheese like that. it also had a nice little spice to it. i got the shrimp and grits, add chorizo. the grits were rich and creamy, the shrimp juicy and plump, and the chorizo was big chunks of tasty goodness. i loved the roasted red pepper throughout. my husband got the sweet potato pancake topped with chicken, bacon, and peach whipped butter. it was he perfect combo o sweet and savory. both the dishes we had are signature dishes and i highly recommend them. portions are large and they also give you a biscuit with blueberry compote and of course honey. definitely not overrated.

we like this place and have had some very good meals here.  it's always busy and there is always a wait so they must be doing something right.  like i said it's good but it's not near as good as the original in asheville.  this place can be hit or miss. it's a little on the pricey side too.

great biscuits. pleasant atmosphere. great wait staff. no wait for us. perfectly sized menu. not too many choices not too few. loved all the cool sides. unfortunately my chicken was not cokes all the way through. they gave us banana pudding for desert that was incredible.
