the place
we had lunch the tupelo honey in downtown greenville, sc. tupelo honey is a revival of southern food and traditions rooted in the carolina mountains. the atmosphere is relaxed style with both booths and tables as well as outdoor seating.
the menu/food
the menu was southern as expected but also somewhat limited. the bloody mary was unique... and not at all what we expected. something about a yellow and thick bloody mary that just didn't appeal to me. our fried green tomatoes were good but nothing special, the fried chicken on a biscuit was okay, the kidscheeseburgers were a generous beef patty served with slightly over cooked fries. the red flannel hash made with salt-roasted beets, herbed potato cracklins, two fried eggs, horseradish crema, onions which was good as was the southern shakshuka made with two baked eggs, goatcheesegrits, avocado, creole sauce (gf).
the service/experience
we were seated quickly and our server was right there to take our drink orders. throughout our meal our server stopped by and filled our glasses and asked if we needed anything.
dining at the tupelo was a good experience just not a great experience. my experience would say its pricey for the value. greenville has a lot of very good restaurants and for many the tupelo is one of them... it just isn't one of mine.
