i can't remember when i first heard about the tupelo honey cafe .  it's sort of a "trend" spot in charlotte since it's fairly new to the area, and i kept seeing comments on social media that the food is spectacular.  every time we have driven or walked by the restaurant, it is super duper crowded.  anyone who knows my husband knows that he is too fidgety to sit around andwaitfor a table for too long.  so we never could commit to going there.       the original location is in asheville, and when matt & i were in asheville a few weekends ago we thought - we have got to get to the charlotte location.  since we are typically awake early on the weekend anyway thanks to a certain doggy, we decided to just head there right when they opened for breakfast to avoid the crowds.   first things first:  coffee.       and then everyone starts out their meal with the signature biscuits and jam.  these were so good.  i could have just eaten a couple of these biscuits and calle

very good. stopped here for breakfast on my way out of town and was very surprised to not have towaitfor a table! i didn't experience any of the loud music or attitudinal staff other reviewers have mentioned.

the biscuits were delicious, as was the rest of my meal, and i sampled my friend;s french toast which was also quite good. i will certainly be eating here again when i return to asheville.

almost fabulous. the food is wonderful. be prepared towaita while for your dinner. after raving about thc to friends that were visiting from new hampshire, we were disappointed to find live bugs in two out of three salads. our meals were finally served an hour after we ordered, but were delicious. the food is great, but does not come without sacrifice.

delicious and worth thewaitif there is one. the black bean burger is not your average veggie burger. the shrimp taco was also fantastic and the side items are awesome. it's hard to choose one!

this place was amazing! the food was unique with a southern twist. the only thing we didn’t like was thewaitand the freezing air conditioning that blew over us as we enjoyed our brunch. we chose the shoo mercy sweet potato cakes and the fried chicken and biscuits. the coffee was a great brew and the honey & blueberry jam was the icing on the cake. we will definitely come back when we visit charlotte again.

my friend and i went to tupelo honey today for lunch. we arrived around noon and were told there was awaitbut we could sit at the counter if we liked. we chose to sit at the counter, so we would not have to wait. neither of us had been there before and i was excited have lunch at tupelo. we could not have had better seats. the counter faces the cooks line and my seat was right next to the pick up window. we got to see everything being prepared, plus the finished product coming out of the kitchen. our server came over and got our drink order and brought us some delicious biscuits to satisfy us while we waited on our food. we decided to start off with an order of fried green tomatoes served on a bed of grits with a red pepper sauce. they came out quickly and were very good. i especially liked the grits. for my lunch i ordered the fried chicken blt and fries. my friend ordered the tupelo pear and beat salad. let me say my sandwich was outstanding. the chicken was crispy, yet moist inside, the bacon was thick cut and cooked perfectly, not an after thought like it is on so many sandwiches. the mustard sauce was spicy and complimented the other ingredients well. the sandwich came on a nice sturdy bakery bun, but it did not overwhelm the sandwich. even the fries were excellent, hot and crispy. my friend, who was eating a little healthier than me today also enjoyed her salad... i don't if she like it as much as i enjoyed my meal, but mine was a slice of southern heaven. not only was our server friendly and efficient (he kept me set in iced tea), but the cooks were also friendly, asking us if we were enjoying our meal and answering questions about what was coming out of the pick up window. i will definitely come back next time i am in asheville.

let me just say, the service on top of the food, was simply amazing. me and a friend had dinner there this evening, and were pleasantly surprised at how large the establishment is. we were seated immediately. our server was very friendly and provided excellent service. we had the shrimp tacos, and fried green tomatoes for appetizers. for our main dishes we had the shrimp and grits, and the scallops. those scallops, were nice and tender, the sauce the scallops, kale and grains lie so delicately on too, was the star of the show. it had a sweet yet tartness about it that hard to explain. our cocktail beverages were equally delightful! camewaitto go back to try other options on the menu

made our party of 6waittwo and a half hours for a table making no effort whatsoever to accomodate us until the lunch hour was coming to an end letting many smaller parties coming in after go ahead of us. i've never been in a restaurant where they did business like this. food very mediocre. a good mimosa which was definitely needed to cool my blood pressure. won't darken that door again.

my boyfriend and i came here after a few friends recommended tupelo from their experience in virginia. we arrived, knowing it would be a wait. no problem. we've been on a culinary tour of the city & i was stoked to try this place.

we hopped in line & the guy ahead of us was told there was a 20 minute wait. when we stepped up next, i was told "1 hour 20 minutes." now, coming in there were 2 set & ready tables, and 1 that was waiting to be bussed. i declined thewaitlist and walked out confused.

the waiter outside asked as we passed his empty tables "leaving so soon" and we asked him were his tables reserved. he said they're first come basis, self seating outside and told us to tell the hostess to seat us outside since he's "wide open." i walked back in and reiterated this to the hostess who replied "i'm only one person" then asked if i wanted to get on the "1 hour" waiting list.

1 how did we get to 1 hour in under 2 minutes? 2 how did we get an hour longerwaitthan the guy ahead of us? 3 why wasn't she seating the waiter who was available and happy to serve during peak hours?? because they offer a vegetarian option in addition to all the meat for brunch, i could see this having been a possible favorite for us, but the first experience here was far too poor to ignore. i will not be returning.

don't you just love the interior? this is my kinda place. parking around noon on saturday was non-existent in the lot behind the restaurant, but no worries. there's free on-street parking on the other side of the light rail. also, the 35-minutewaitonly ended up being 15 minutes. another score!

we like this place and have had some very good meals here.  it's always busy and there is always awaitso they must be doing something right.  like i said it's good but it's not near as good as the original in asheville.  this place can be hit or miss. it's a little on the pricey side too.

good food, but highly overrated. this is not to say that i didn't enjoy the meal, i stand by giving them 4 points, but only that it didn't live up to the hype this restaurant receives.

tupelo is a solid restaurant with slightly above average food. it's not impressively good, nor does it justify an hourwaitat lunchtime.

their veggie burger is the most like a hamburger i've ever had. that's not exactly the goal of a good veggie burger, but they accomplished it quite well none the less. fries were great, brussel sprouts, delicious. i don't have a single negative thing to say about tupelo other than the hype!
