delicious and worth the wait if there is one. the black bean burger is not your average veggie burger. the shrimp taco was also fantastic and the side items are awesome. it's hard to choose one!

tupelo honey is a well-known restaurant with a few locations that i was told is a must-visit while in the area. sine i had pretty much been eating all day, i was only in the mood for a snack. we started with some biscuits and jam. i love that biscuits come with every meal in the south. and i ordered some fried green tomatoes - panko-crusted fried green tomatoes, basil, roasted red pepper sauce, served over stone-ground goat cheese grits.

tupelo honey is a charming southern-comfort themed establishment which offers gourmet takes on southern classics, such as fried chicken, greens, fried pickles, fish-fry, and biscuits. the dishes are all creative, and have an air of authenticity to them. i very much enjoyed the generously-garnished bloody mary that i ordered. i wanted to eat a light and inexpensive meal, which is near-impossible at tupelo honey, so i ended up ordering the blistered and spiced vegetables. to my disappointment, my vegetables were completely burnt to the point of tasting like the ash of a garden-variety gas station cigar. not only were the veggies burnt worse than chernobyl, but they were so over-seasoned that i didn’t even want to finish my already salty bloody mary. i’ve had a steak at tupelo honey in the past, and i did quite enjoy it, which is why i was so disappointed to eat burnt vegetables with an ocean’s worth of salt on them out of the same kitchen.

our last day in asheville we went to tupelo honey cafe for late breakfast/early lunch. the last time i was in asheville, i really wanted to try thc but did not have the chance. i'm glad we had a chance to go this time. we both ordered hot tea to warm up (we'd been walking around on chilly & windy day) and we ordered way too much food, but it was all good.

the service is mediocre. the hostess sat us, that was the last contact we had with a staff member until i flagged down a server (10 minutes) to ask if we could move to a table that didn’t wobble. we moved and 10 minutes more when i asked another server if someone would please take our order.
the biscuits were the star of the night. served with honey as well as blueberry compote. the compote is very balanced.
fried green tomatoes were good. the goat cheese grits were kinda cold and a bit pasty. the goat cheese was a non existent in this dish. the coulis was flavorful but a bit thick.
fried chicken blt was very good. the chicken has a great crust, and it’s fried perfectly. however the side of pork belly collard greens were so salty you could not eat it. we asked for the mac & cheese as a replacement. it was typical mac & cheese. good flavor. honey roasted brussels w/ hominy. the flavor of honey was nonexistent and these brussels were not roasted (see my photo). they were kinda soft and undercooked at the same time. the overall flavor of the dish was bad. the hominy was the main odd flavor which dominated the almost flavorless brussels sprout.
i will definitely try this place again. i really liked the tone of the menu. and the service can only get better.

this place was amazing! the food was unique with a southern twist. the only thing we didn’t like was the wait and the freezing air conditioning that blew over us as we enjoyed our brunch. we chose the shoo mercy sweet potato cakes and the fried chicken and biscuits. the coffee was a great brew and the honey & blueberry jam was the icing on the cake. we will definitely come back when we visit charlotte again.

my friend and i went to tupelo honey today for lunch. we arrived around noon and were told there was a wait but we could sit at the counter if we liked. we chose to sit at the counter, so we would not have to wait. neither of us had been there before and i was excited have lunch at tupelo. we could not have had better seats. the counter faces the cooks line and my seat was right next to the pick up window. we got to see everything being prepared, plus the finished product coming out of the kitchen. our server came over and got our drink order and brought us some delicious biscuits to satisfy us while we waited on our food. we decided to start off with an order of fried green tomatoes served on a bed of grits with a red pepper sauce. they came out quickly and were very good. i especially liked the grits. for my lunch i ordered the fried chicken blt and fries. my friend ordered the tupelo pear and beat salad. let me say my sandwich was outstanding. the chicken was crispy, yet moist inside, the bacon was thick cut and cooked perfectly, not an after thought like it is on so many sandwiches. the mustard sauce was spicy and complimented the other ingredients well. the sandwich came on a nice sturdy bakery bun, but it did not overwhelm the sandwich. even the fries were excellent, hot and crispy. my friend, who was eating a little healthier than me today also enjoyed her salad... i don't if she like it as much as i enjoyed my meal, but mine was a slice of southern heaven. not only was our server friendly and efficient (he kept me set in iced tea), but the cooks were also friendly, asking us if we were enjoying our meal and answering questions about what was coming out of the pick up window. i will definitely come back next time i am in asheville.

the biscuits and the mac and cheese were the best parts of this experience. between over priced selections and slow service, i don't think i will return here anytime soon. they did have a few selections that sounded appetizing, such as their burger (the name of which escapes me at the moment). the burger was 16 or 18 dollars i believe. which is too much in my opinion. if you have cash to blow this may not be a bad spot, but if you are simply looking for a casual dinner that won't break your bank, i suggest going elsewhere.

the place

we had lunch the tupelo honey in downtown greenville, sc. tupelo honey is a revival of southern food and traditions rooted in the carolina mountains. the atmosphere is relaxed style with both booths and tables as well as outdoor seating.

the menu/food

the menu was southern as expected but also somewhat limited. the bloody mary was unique... and not at all what we expected. something about a yellow and thick bloody mary that just didn't appeal to me. our fried green tomatoes were good but nothing special, the fried chicken on a biscuit was okay, the kids cheese burgers were a generous beef patty served with slightly over cooked fries. the red flannel hash made with salt-roasted beets, herbed potato cracklins, two fried eggs, horseradish crema, onions which was good as was the southern shakshuka made with two baked eggs, goat cheese grits, avocado, creole sauce (gf).

the service/experience

we were seated quickly and our server was right there to take our drink orders. throughout our meal our server stopped by and filled our glasses and asked if we needed anything.

dining at the tupelo was a good experience just not a great experience. my experience would say its pricey for the value. greenville has a lot of very good restaurants and for many the tupelo is one of them... it just isn't one of mine.
