tupelo honey

exactly what i was hoping to find in asheville. a fresh modern take on the best southern dishes. we ordered fried green tomatoes on goat cheese grits, which was absolutely phenomenal. the breakfast biscuits, pancakes and omelettes were all likewise excellent and carefully prepared. this is a must have for any visit to town.

gone downhilll. i never thought this place was as great as others thought, but it was good. but now, it's not even that. everything is greasy. the greasiest: veggie melt. the last time i got it i couldn't even finish because of the grease. i really don't know why this place is popular.

good food. food was good and portions were large. left very very full! the one thing that surprised me was the atmosphere -- i hadn't been to the other locations so i was surprised how casual it was for the moderate prices. wouldn't choose this for a date night but seems too expensive for just grabbing a quick bite.

recently dined at the south asheville location. nice atmosphere...miss the eggs crawley - hope they'll consider adding it back to the menu.

friday night we went out to tupelo honey with a family member who was in town for a visit.  we love tupelo honey south and have taken mira with us since she was a month old.  but it’s getting interesting as she gets older and eats more from the menu.  up until now she has eaten from my plate, usually veggie sides or the veggie bowl.   but this time i decided she was a big girl and ready to order from the kid’s menu! but first things first, we didn’t even have her in the high chair (which was refreshingly clean, btw) before her uncle declared, “she smells a little stinky.”  usually this would make me groan, but tupelo honey south has the bomb bathroom, so i whisked her off to our private changing table in the ladies room, with the trashcan and sink in the handicap stall right there……ahh my sense of luxury these days! when i came back the guys were looking over the menu, and i had to ask our server for the kid’s menu.  i found that a little odd, but maybe she just forgot.  i was happy to

good. we went to the thc south. great atmosphere, good service. my husband like the pecan chicken, but said it was dry (it looked dry). it was served with a root vegetable mash which was, well, root vegetable mash. i had the omelet filled with pimiento cheese (photo attached). the eggs were overcooked and i surprisingly didn't like their pimiento cheese. the goat cheese grits were fantastic and the red eye gravy was good. my son had the bbq which was okay. mac and cheese was okay. my daughter had the shrimp & grits which was good. nothing exceptional except for the biscuits. the biscuits were excellent - light, fluffy and huge with great flavor. the blueberry preserves they were served with was very good. tasted like it was made with wild maine blueberries as opposed to local bb, but i didn't ask. we'd go back for the atmosphere, but would order different things for sure. definitely worth trying. my husband said the local organic beer he tried was good, too.

so i gets this biscuit. then this little brown bird does this little hopping walk over to my table. gave me this cute little bird look. so i gave him some of my biscuit. piece of shit didnt even say thank you. just flew away after. so disrespectful they need to teach these...

good but greasy. each time i've ate here it's been good but always ask for extra napkins. i actually had grease running down my chin from the grilled cheese sandwich.....good but it's greasy. biscuits and jam are worth it even for the gf folks.

over rated!!. my family decided to eat here for mother's day. we had a late lunch, no wait. waitress had some type of chip on her shoulder from the start, but that's ok, i tip very well when service is good, she got 10%. at our table of 8, the following was ordered....meatloaf, fried nut chicken, grilled chicken sandwich, tupelo burger. the chicken sandwich was edible, but no better than any fast food grilled chicken i have ever had. the meatloaf looked like cat food and didn't taste much better, my daughter thought the chicken was so -so. i honestly do not see what the hype is over this place!! yuck!!
on a side note, the biscuit was decent.

liked eating downtown. this place is right on main. i had the fried chicken. it was alright.

prices are ok for downtown.

the egg rolls were orgasmic! make sure you pack some extra underwear

the biscuits with homemade blueberry jam were exceptionally good! the coffee was awful-get the tea.

called ahead. when we got to the restaurant, we were told we would be seated soon. 45 minutes later we finally sat down. since we were running late getting our daughter down for her nap thanks to the unanticipated long wait, we asked if it was possible to eat and be on our way in an hour. the waitress used a rude tone when she told us we could. i dont mind waiting for good food and i adore southern food, but the food we received was bland, lukewarm, and gross. watery eggs, biscuits like bricks, and tough rubbery asparagus are just not worth waiting 45 minutes for. the only saving grace was that they took off the worst meals price from our tab. save yourself the disappointment and go somewhere else.

almost fabulous. the food is wonderful. be prepared to wait a while for your dinner. after raving about thc to friends that were visiting from new hampshire, we were disappointed to find live bugs in two out of three salads. our meals were finally served an hour after we ordered, but were delicious. the food is great, but does not come without sacrifice.
