one of my girlfriends told me to come to the moon because thebeerwas great and they had cool things like music bingo, wing night and great service. upon going there for my first time with my mother, it seemed pretty cool. i got served by a woman with arm tattoos who was a bit rude and barely came around to our table although it wasn't busy! come to find she had been behind the bar on her phone the whole time we were waiting for another drink and had dirty dishes on the table. i thought it was very unprofessional all together. i will give this place another try at some point down the road, the food was perfect and the (dunkel) was great! i just really hope i get better service next time and that this isn't happening to everybody that goes there.....



update. this place sucks even worse than it did a year ago. do not go here. the kitchen staff are gross looking and i've seen things cooling in the dusty hall which is not food safe. the owner is a complete psycho and i do not recommend to anybody that isn't going there just to get wasted.

our last brewery visit of the trip was at moon under water. i’ve seen their bottles at the liquor store and like the design but it’s a mixed bag when it comes to how their beers taste. we dropped in on a monday (around 3:45pm). it wasn’t busy and oddly, theirbeerpub was closed (even though there were people inside). we went informed to go to the restaurant instead. service was brutal; our waitress messed up our flight and didn’t bother to tell us anything about the beers that we had ordered. we weren’t impressed.

this is a bustling and successful pub with greatbeeron tap.  great appies.  they also have pretty good wings on wing night -  well-sauced and decent sized.  i feel their menu is well-priced for the quality of the food.  if you like pub classics - burgers, fish and chips, soups, salads, a great variety of appies - then it's worth a try.  it's definitely classier than some greaseball pub food but still comfortable.  my critiques are that it is always too busy in the evenings!  like come on victoria, could you please forget about this place a little bit?  so they could maybe use more seating.  also it smells like rotting death outside due to the aroma of the dumpster.  i don't know how they could fix it but i notice it every time.  service can be a little slow but i think it's just cause they're so busy.

went here with pretty high expectations after friend recommended the place, was highly disappointed. chicken wings were dry and un flavourful.beerwas okay. service was non existent . rest of the food we ordered wasn't that great at all. won't be going back.

moon is my favourite go to pub!!! creepy uncle dunkel is abeerthat i crave and their hot wings are delicious. it's a small family run place which keeps you coming back!!!

i was pleasantly surprised with this place. thebeeri had was 20 oz and was like $5 and it was delicious. i then had a burger with it, which was also great. it's a smaller place but i found as well that our server was very friendly and attentive. i will definitely go back.

awesome veggie burger. holy cow!!! (pardon the pun), the veggie burger rocks! i've only been to moon under water once, but it was recommended by a friend that i try the veggie burger and they were not kidding! i will be back and it will be hard not to have it again.beeris good too!

i had been wanting to try this pub for sometime and had high expectations. went on a monday night andbeerand food specials were quite good and very reasonably priced. but service was aweful. waitress made us feel like it was a huge chore to take our orders. she even spiltbeerall over me and didn't even comp thatbeer(i'll have a $30 dry cleaning bill to cover it). there was no paper towel in the men's washroom and it was dirty. maybe it was holiday temp staff or something but really disappointing and i'll never go back.

great place for abeerand a burger.. love this place. thebeeris amazing, and what goes well with abeer(or three)? a burger of course. washed down with a couple more of their excellent, brewed on the premises, beers or guest ales. one thing victoria does well is brewpubs and this is one of the best. the simple décor and the location in the middle of an industrial estate just emphasise the excellence of the beer. did i mention they make good beer? looking forward to a few visits when i return to victoria next month.

good beer, decent food, bad service.. so we walked in, seated ourselves. waited ten minutes for anyone to acknowledge us.
there was a server going serving everyone else and she ignored us completely it wasn't until i made eye contact with the bartender he came over and served us. we were the only people being served by him which seemed odd.

the only time the server said anything all she said was "oh you're just drinking" and ran off before we could say anything... bizarre.

anyway thebeerthere is nice, food is alright, regular bar food.

my verdict, just grab a growler and leave.

mixed feelings. i've been to the moon under water several dozen times now as it's near my house, and i have to say that my biggest complaint is their inconsistency. the service is always hit or miss. it seems like they don't schedule enough staff a lot of nights, or have had some staffing issues as quite often the service is really slow and sub-par; however it's quite visible that the servers are working their butts off and running around like crazy trying to get to all the tables. other times the servers have been really friendly and attentive. i've been served by the older women the last few times i've been there, and find her to be unapproachable and inattentive, so i was surprised to learn she was the owner. i find the same inconsistency with the food. i usually always order the beet salad. it's a delicious salad, but always changes in presentation and ratio of ingredients. i also often order their onion rings which can be absolutely out of this world, but have arrived cold or excessively greasy several times. i really want to love this place, especially since it's my only neighborhood option other than spinnakers, but it's been difficult when you never know what to expect when you go there. i've stopped recommending it for that reason. one thing that has always been consistently great is the beer. although, one complaint about thebeeris that they do not have separate taps for growlers with extra carbonation, so mybeerwas flat by the time i got to drink it later that night. for that reason i go to spinnakers to get my growlers filled, although i mush prefer moon's beer.

food andbeeris great. only complaint is that they allow reservations on wing night. counted 6 tables with reserve signs and a line up at the door. four people walked out because they couldn't get a table.

getting better and better. every since the change of ownership this place has been getting better and better. while i would rate the food anything above "pub" level (but, to be fair, it *is* a pub), thebeeris great. the additional guest taps offer a great selection for a brewpub.

service can be a little slow if it's busy.

a good (re)start. i had gone once to the pub before the new ownership took over and had such a terrible time that i had sworn off returning *and* purchasing any of theirbeer(it was that bad). i recently heard about the new ownership and decided i'd let them get their feet wet before i'd return, which i did last night.

the atmosphere has been greatly improved. actually feels like a proper pub now (not sure what the previous owners were thinking). between two of us, we had some wings, burger (chicken and oyster) and a couple of beers (i had the potts pils which was great).

the service was probably slower than it should be for a 1/2-2/3 full restaurant, but we managed to occupy our time well enough.

the food was average, i'd say. it is pub fare, afterall. the chicken on the burger looked a little too formatted to be a nice fresh cut of chicken, so i assume their using some frozen meat of some kind. the bacon on the burger was thick and plentiful which was nice.

would love to see the food quality step it up a notch, i'll probably return. will definitely be buying some more of their beer, at least!

2nd times the charm.. glad to see the new owners (for almost a year i think) have changed this uniquely located pub into a fun place. food is ok but could be stepped up another notch but hopefully that will change in time. multiple themes (burger night on wednesday etc) for each day of the week. its a great effort compared to the previous owners who practically hated being in business.

one thing that needs to change is the white witch that sometimes works at the bar or serves.. a constant scowl on her face and the look of medusa at the best of times. perhaps an office position?

the prices are quite good and thebeerselection is great though!

great food, superbbeerand amazing service !. my wife and i went to moon under water pub and brewery last thursday nite for "the burger flip". this is where your order a burger, the kitchen decides what to serve you and you get to flip a coin to see if you pay full price ($16) or half price ($8).

the service from christina was impeccable. christina was very knowledgeable about their beers and food and made our night even more special! cheers christina and thank you !

my burger was a delicious, huge beef burger with mushrooms, onions, cheese and greens. it was perfectly cooked and seasoned. i did get to choose my side which was a vegetable soup in a large bowl; quite delicious. at the end i flipped and won !

my wife had a bowl of fries (which was $6), very large portion and delicious. they had an aioli and seafood sauce on the side for dipping.

i had thebeersampler ($8 for a sample of all their beers (4 x 5 oz)) and i paid an extra $2 to try the 5thbeer(seasonal).

then i had a "guest beer" (brewed by another micro brewery) it was a green flash brewing co.'s west coast ipa. very nice, and very hopsy for $6.

we had a great time and again, thank you christina! we will be back, i promise!
